Hello,

I am working on my hand sync and timing and I thought that I should practice this exercise inspired by tightness Etude.
Playing at 120BPM

I am playing:
- Quarter Notes
- Eighth Notes
- Eighth Triplets

I think my playing is pretty tight.

Let me know what you think.

Hi Victor!

Great to see you practicing hard! Yes, this type of exercises, combined with some others are very helpful for hand sync.

I can say that you are playing these 3 exercises tight and that your hands are completely in sync here. The only thing that I would try here is to relax a bit more your right hand, and to try to cross strings smoothly. Check your video again and notice the extra movement that you do every time that you cross strings (mostly when you play triplets). Check how Lian does it in his lesson: Tightness Etude

One of the trickier parts of alternate picking is crossing strings so this should be the next focus once you feel comfortable and can relax your hand on 1 string. I can help you choosing the right crossing strings exercises for you! smile.gif

At this point, I can say that yes, your hands are in sync and that your timing is precise here. You can try adding 16th notes.

Thank you for your feedback I will add a video with the 16th notes in a few days until than I will keep practicing.
It's getting harder for me at 16th notes because it's a bit faster.

Nice! Multi picking is on point as well. This is a GREAT drill. To focus on changing strings, just pick any two strings, stay on the same fret, and play the chromatic drill on a loop. Then pick two other strings and repeat. It will give your hand time to focus on moving between strings in a more isolated way. Well played!

Nearly every Drill in Bootcamp is a cross string workout. To isolate them just pick two strings and repeat the pattern. You can do the chromatic (one fret at at time drill) that you are doing in this vid, just do it on two strings. That will focus your on transitioning between strings. So it's using things you already know so that you can focus on better technique instead of learning a new drill. Any scale will work as well. For example The Natural Minor Scale. Just pick two adjacent strings. Say the E and A string. Run the scale notes on those two strings back and forth. Ascending and descending. Then add one more string, the D. Don't string skip yet until your ability to move between strings is as smooth as you'd like it to be. Does this make sense?

Here is the Tightness Etude with 16th notes.
Playing at:
- 96 BPM (80% speed)
- 108 BPM (90 % speed)
- 120 BPM (100% speed)

The original lesson full speed is at 110BPM so I tried to push it beyond that a little bit.

Great job man! You are sounding tight most of the time. There are some moments with small timing issues, but this will disappear after more days of practice. I also think that your hands will feel more relaxed if you continue practicing this routine.

I'd like to suggest 4 extra exercises. The idea is that you take this 4 patterns and work with them in the same way that you do it with the tightness ones:
