Thanks Alex. Hope this isn't too overwhelming. tongue.gif

Goals

I'd love to be able to compose my own songs that i can share with others. I find i have a lot of idea's in my head but i just can't get them out of there.
I'd like to improve to a standard where i am able to record myself in one take/play for a crowd confidently, without mistakes. I find when i record now i NEED to break things up as i just can't play a full piece without making mistakes.
When i listen to players like Andy Timmons he has such great feeling and emotion in his playing, i'd like build some into my playing.
I'd also love to learn some acoustic stuff on the side as i love the sound of an acoustic guitar.

Weaknesses

I find that i dabble in a lot things rather than really concentrating on one thing at a time.
Rhythm playing is something I've really overlooked.
Muting i find difficult and don't consciously think about when playing.
I spend far more time listening to music than practicing!
Music theory i know very little about.

Overall i think my playing is pretty raw.

Strengths

I'm comfortable alternate picking as long as the speed isn't excessively fast.
I'm passionate about music and want to improve.

I love a lot of guitar-based music, bands i find myself listening to a lot lately are Stereophonics, the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Feeder, Mr. Big and Danger Danger. I also find myself listening to jazz radio stations from time to time.
My favourite guitarists are Paul Gilbert, Andy Timmons, Dave Mcpherson and John Frusciante.

Hi! I like your choice of the guitar players nice and tasty!!!
I would like to start with rhythm!
I have a backing track that has a very simple chord progression
C major - A minor - E minor
I also added a track with my guitar in it to give you some ideas!
What I want you to do is to record main guitar and a double
using different voicing!
So for the first part use this voicings:
C major9

A minor 7

E minor 7

And for the second part use this voicings:
C major 7

A minor

E minor 7

The trick is to play the same strumming for both tracks!
Doing this exercise you will kill two ducks with one stone
You will improve your timing, learn new chords and will start learning about creating backing tracks!

Here are the tracks:

No guitar

Let me know if you have any questions!

Hey Alex.

Sorry, i've not had a lot of time to spend on this yet as the university year is coming to a close and i've been really busy!

Only one week left though, then i'll have lots of time free. biggrin.gif
