GMC Forum _ CHILL OUT _ My Game Project Keeps Growing!

Posted by: Adam Jan 1 2020, 12:41 AM

I've been working on a video game for some time now and we're really deep in it now! I'm expecting the release date to be around first half of May, which is not that distant. We're having a lot of fun and learn a lot too, so it's a good experience, even though it's a fan-made project and we won't be able to monetize it.

It takes place in apocalyptic Future where the survivor who stayed safe in space when all the bad things happened delves into an academy looking for tools to use to stop the apocalypse in another timeline.
It's a short introductory game for the project that comes afterwards but we're hoping to learn something from the feedback we get and make the sequel project even better.

It takes place in apocalyptic Future where the survivor who stayed safe in space when all the bad things happened delves into an academy looking for tools to use to stop the apocalypse in another timeline.

The first part is a stealth game up until the protagonist finds a weapon, the second part will include battles.

We're having quite a problem with the soundtrack, though. We do have 3 remixes of the themes used in the original series but we're lacking some. Is anybody interested in helping with it?

The general idea is as follows: we need one world map music, based on Metal Gear Solid stealth tracks if possible, but we already have 3 Synthwave tracks, so Synthwave or Dark Synthwave would fit in too. We need a "battle" music. Actually, Cael has made one that would be a perfect fit, as a suggestion for a GMC Collab (I'll attach the track to the post). If you're okay with it, we would be happy to use it as the "battle" music. Please let me know, if you read this. Lastly, we came up with the idea to make an instrumental Synthwave cover of Deep Purple's Space Truckin' (about 2 minutes long would be enough for its purpose.) The protagonist travels in a space truck, so it would be a perfect fit. I'll get my Scarlett unit in 2 days, I think, so I could do the guitar part but I'm unable to do neither synth nor drums.

I don't know much about writing actual music, so any bit of help is appreciated, any piece of advice or guidance will be the most helpful!

The music sounds great! It sounds like you have all the music covered? CAEL has a ton of completed tracks that would be perfect for something like this. You could always do a collab on one of them to get some solos to fill out a given track and just keep the ones you like. Can't wait to see the game! What platform is it for?

If you'll need shorter music (for game menu, pause, parts of game which you don't want silent...) you can google free loops.

There are both fx or cinematic stuff (which is more of filler sounds rather than music) for free as quick solutions. Downside is you'll dowload a lot and may not be easy picking the right sample from libraries.

I need to record 3 tracks or ask Cael for cooperation and maybe he has just what I need but I know more or less what I need.
I was thinking to add the version with a lead guitar over the track at some later stage in game, so it's the same but different and make it more dynamic that way.

If I have to record these completely by myself, I may need some help or advice but I feel like I can do it!

The platform is Windows, I don't know if this engine supports porting to Linux/Mac/Android.

For the menu music, I'm going to use the world map theme slowed down and an octave or two lower in pitch. I'm not sure about the cinematics but I'll check the free loops. Might be helpful smile.gif Thanks for the heads up!

CAEL has some truly killer tracks and he is a great guy. He has always been very helpful here at GMC and I'm sure he can work something out with you. He has a lot of finished tracks that all sound great. If you need someone to play a guest lead, just pop a track up as a backing and request folks submit lead takes! If you do, count me in! smile.gif

Thank you! I talked to Cael about it. Also, I will let you know if I need a guest lead, probably when I'm done with the basic scripts. It takes ages to get these to work but it's really satisfying when it works as intended smile.gif

Can't wait to see how it turns out!! Please let me know if I can offer any audio smile.gif I'd be happy to do some lead work or anything else I can manage based on what is needed.

We've accidentally found a few YouTube channels with copyright-free synthwave/darksynth. We will have to take time and pick the tracks that fit the most and I will probably need some help with adding leads to them smile.gif

Cool!!! smile.gif Why not make it a sort of contest? You can share a bit of music that you want a bit of guitar /lead work on and then take everyones submissions. Whichever one you think works best or even parts of several, just use those smile.gif
