If you have the ability to record video (perhaps even poor vid quality) I suspect you'll find instructors with plenty of suggestions for you.
Also, are we talking hours and hours over a few weeks? A few months? Years? Something to remember is that you want to reward yourself some of the time by playing what you already know. Technically, it's still practicing, but you are rewarded by really making music. Depending on which exercises you've set for yourself, this may be very different from the kinds of sounds you're hearing yourself make while learning new and challenging techniques or songs. Make time to play as well as learn. Early learning usually sounds terrible and it can be discouraging. Further, Chris or Andrew suggested that the MTP has some changes coming soon. -------------------- ::jafomatic

Having a teacher can be a good idea but sometimes works out even worse that you can think of. Post a video and we can give you some tips. Here you can ask anything and get advice for anything you want to know.

These periods happen from time to time, don't worry and stay focused on progress. Problems are easy to overcome, just be patient you will see. In time this feeling will pass and you will get a fresh motivation to last you for some time. Please post a video so we can point out the important aspects of your playing.

Hey man. I play guitar for quite a while, and right now the only thing I regret during all years was the times I quit!!
If you feel that the exercises are going nowhere, try to give a break from what you are doing. Spend more time learning songs which are just a little bit above your current level and jamming to backing tracks. About getting a teacher, be aware: - A good teacher can make you advance really fast and correct your problems - A bad teacher can make you forget about guitar forever!. I experienced both cases, so be very careful with the teacher you chose, and change if you don't like it. Saving some bucks going for a bad teacher may not be the best option... From the description, I think you're problems seem quite normal, so maybe if you post a video we can try to help better? Being slower when down stroking only compared to AP is normal. But don't spend time on 1-2-3-4 patterns unless you use them for fingers independence (you can find lessons for that in GMC). -------------------- my "Thank you GMC!" video

Ok guys!
I made a little video with a couple of riffs. I got so nervous so I didn´t play that well but on the other side thats why I´m made this post. If there is some other angle you would like or something just tell me and I will record it. btw, my guitar is tuned 1/2 step down. Cheers! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thG_75rbGWU |

Yeah, don't quit! You'll regret it down the road. Learn new songs, practice different techniques, try to have fun playing.
