Hey guys!
Thanks for taking part "voluntarily" part in my first collaboration ever. biggrin.gif I hope you had as much fun as I had doing the backing track and the final mix. Only two of you haded in a take. sad.gif Anyway, here are the results.

  • Toroso

1st part (D minor): You used a simple but effective melody which was ornated differently. You could have created another melody line in the 3rd and 4th bar of this section instead of repeating the previous idea. This would make your solo more interesting. One hint: don´t bend when you are at a note of the chord. When ending a phrase you did very good when stopping at a chord note, but bending is not a good idea (about 1/4 or 1/2 bend). Stay relaxed and don´t execute any power on a fret, just add some vibrato.
2nd part (E minor): Here you have really to pay attention to your bends. You bend mostly 1/2 note (or even 1/4 note which is often used in arabic music biggrin.gif ) to a note that isn´t in the E minor scale. Before using bends, just fret the note you want to reach in order to hear the pitch. Then bend up to it.
Interlude: No playing at all works as well. smile.gif
Ending part (D minor): Not bad, you used a common rock lick which fits well the backing track in nearly every situation. However, you should know what rhyhtm you wanna play. It sounded a bit messy and I´m sure you could do it better. smile.gif

In general, I liked that you made real phrases - simples ones, but effective ones. smile.gif You have good ideas, but your technical skills sometimes disable you to execute them, I think. Just be patient and practise hard and you´ll be able to play what you hear!

    RESULT: + +
You got one + because you handed in a take that sounded good (you were in the correct scale) and the second + because you was the only one who handed in in time! smile.gif Good job, Brian!

1st part (D minor): You started very convinced, but continued pretty undeciced. You have to be sure/confident of what you are playing in order to convince the listener. What actually can help is accentuating the notes that are on the important beat (in this case, we have 4/4 which means that the important beats are the 1st and 3rd beats). On those beats, you should use notes of the chord that is in the backing (in this case, we have Dmin which means that you could use D F A). Just an idea. smile.gif
2nd part (E minor): I liked it very much how you used the typical rock/blues/metal lick. Well done!
Interlude: Good idea to repeat the starting idea of the next section in this one! Only some timing problems.
Ending part (D minor): Here you have to pay attention to be correct in timing. It seems as if you were tired of the previous lick and only wanted the backing to finish. biggrin.gif Next time, I´d like you to pay really attention to your timing. wink.gif

In general, I liked that you used some well fitting licks from the blues/rock/metal area. There were some timing issues that you can fix with practising with the metronome!

    RESULT:
    +
You got one + because you handed in a take that was good (nice licks and correct notes)! Bravo, Filipe! smile.gif

Valentin and Andrew, I´m so sorry that you didn´t manage to do a take for this collaboration and that´s why I´m forced to give you a -. sad.gif This means that you´ll have to do a little work that is annoying. biggrin.gif I still have to think about it and find an adequate one. wink.gif

Brian and Filipe, you both got at least one + and that´s why you can ask me for a personal assignment (1 assignment per +). Just post your request in your "Individual Assignment" thread.

Here´s the final mix which isn´t well done. biggrin.gif My fault. I didn´t control the volume of each track. Next time, I´ll do better! smile.gif

Thanks for the evaluation, I was pretty sure the timming was wrong after listening to it, and it really does, especially in the last lick that didn't come exactly as I wanted.

Nice backing again smile.gif

Allright, I want to understand this. You are saying that I should not apply bends on the chord notes in a progression?

Maybe bending should be my special assignment? rolleyes.gif

The last part is first attempt at tapping. wacko.gif

Thanks for the collab and comments! smile.gif

Andrew and Valentino, I decided what you have to do! smile.gif Find an economic way to play the A Major scale over 3 octaves and do a video while you´re playing it.

Sorry to butt inn, Tolek!

Anyway, Toro!
You can bend to any note in the scale, to the given chord, however bending to the strong chordnotes is very nice.

Thanks for this helpful input, kjutte. smile.gif I think I spoke about this in a video that I made for him.

Toroso, when you bend a 1/2 step from F for example and you are in D minor scale, then you get a F# which isn´t in the scale. That is the problem. Always check if the pitch is correct. smile.gif
