GMC Forum _ CHILL OUT _ Please Help Me Music Enthusiasts

Hello fellow GMC'ers smile.gif

** Please do notice this is not an advertising or sales topic! **

But i'd like to hear if anyone could help me figure out, if some collectors vinyls i have are worth anything?

I looked through some old stuff i got in a safe place when I cleaned out. -Don't worry im not gonna throw these out no matter what, but I just wanted to hear what they might be worth; A qualified guess.

So, the stuff I got is:

Early Jimi Hendrix Vol. II LP, in original cover. EMI records.
the cover show slight signs of age, but the LP itself is very well preserved. It has been played, but not excessively. Its in very good conditon. Could it be worth something?

The other one is a bootleg (Live recording, extremely rare)
Neil Young, Live In Europe Tour '82; Live in Stockholm LP.
It consists of a "homemade" cover that is made from black/white pictures from the concert, 2 LP's containing the whole show. These LP's have never been played. The first one have just been tested once very short to make sure its working and good quality. My mom purchased this in 82. were the only owners and since the short test play, the vinyls have never been removed out of the paper. And im not even for the pictures.

I know this is a very special collectors item. But I have no idea about the possible value of it.

Could anyone give me a qualified guess if these are worth anything?

The 2006 edition of the 'UK Rare record price guide' doesn't list the Hendrix or indeed any recordings made for EMI - but it only lists UK official releases so the EMI is probably a non-UK pressing. It looks like it's a compilation and there are lots of those about. Anyway rare Hendrix records in mint condition generally are listed at between 12-100 UK Sterling (the vast majority are 12 btw and you would be offered a lot less than that to account for the dealer's profit). The most noticable exception is the original Track test pressing 2lp, non-gatefold copy of Electric Ladyland. That's at 1000UK.

The sleeve of the Hendrix - looks like someone has written a number on it in biro - that I'm afraid will bring the price down quite a bit.

Neil Young - sorry the book doesn't list bootlegs. You could try googling it. Official NY lps don't make much money imho - afraid he's not seen as hugely collectable.

Bootlegs in my experience aren't generally as valuable as people think. I've bought and sold quite a few in the past and except for a few famous high profile ones (like Prince's 'Black Album') most were around the 5-25 UK Sterling mark. Live recordings particularly were never that expensive - and there are a lot more about then people think. Anyway check it out on google just in case.

Cheers,
Tony

While we're at it:

I got this some years back:

Any ideas about what it is? (Besides being a metallica live something...)

And another one:

I've heard Led Zeppelin's "Houses of the Holy" might be worth something - is it?

Sorry for the bad pictures - they were taken with my webcam three or four years ago.

Led Zep - if it's an original first pressing then its about 12 UK Sterling. Subsequent pressings aren't worth as much - I've seen them at between 1-3UKS.

Metallica - looks like the 12'' ep on vertigo - mint ones are around 15UKS. However it may be a promo copy, which would increase the value - just a thought as I have a vague recollection that the promo sleeve was pretty plain. Promos though usually have a sticker attached saying 'Promotional copy not for resale'.

Cheers,
Tony

I really haven't looked at the records since then - 3 years ago. I just remembered having them and the pictures uploaded. Will just look at the Metallica now to see. The Led Zep one is in very bad condition anyways, so that one I'll just keep wink.gif

Alright:

Metallica:

It's a live album:

"Metal612

Recorded live at the coliseum,
Seattle, Washington on August
29th & 30th 1989!

Mixed by Hetfield & Ulrich"

It says on the back.

From the 1st link it's the ep (extended play 12'' single) that I suggested mate smile.gif . The UK promo had the catalogue no. MetDJ 2 the standard 12'' was METAL 212.

Cheers,
Tony

Okay - So it may be that first one from the "musicstack" link?

Anyways - I have no idea about all this kinda stuff, so I'm just gonna put the record back in the collection and never listen to it again tongue.gif
