GMC Forum _ Recording _ What Is The Best Mastering Software For You..

well...I use Sony Sound Forge 7.0.....and it works for me just fine....
many people who work in Steinberg DAW's are mor in to WaweLab...
so any professional opinions would be great to hear.....

Good question - I would separate the mastering environment from the plugins. I don;t have anything special for the environment, and when mastering I would probably use reaper I guess.

For me its more important to think about what plugins you would use (or hardware if you are that way inclined). I have Izotope Ozone - great for adding some sparkle or Eq to a finished track.

I would also give an honorable mention to PSP Vintage Warmer.

Finally, one recent development is that you can now send your tracks over the internet to be professionally mastered for a reasonable cost - If I were serious about releasing a CD I would probably take this route myself.

TBH I prefer to send stuff out to master but when we have to do it ourselves then we use Audition (been using it since the old CoolEdit days) plus some mastering suites Ozone/Har-bal etc.

We also regularly use Audacity and SADiE but more for training people in broadcast/post production/mastering then what we use for mastering ourselves. Of the 3 my wife prefers SADiE. I would add that we don't 'have' SADiE here at home but we have good access to a couple of pro broadcast suites that do and so we train people who need SADiE there. Though as we do more training here then my wife seems to be showing signs that she's interested in an LRX but that will have to wait and not least until/if we move to MADI.

I have used Wavelab, good program..
But if I need a song Mix and Mastered I usually send it to a friend of mine who is pretty good, and let him do it

thanks for the answers guys....I agree with you Andrew,Vintage Warmer is great software...99% of the plug ins I use for home mastering are Waves.....I like every thing from them...but I am thinking of saving money for UAD(dsp)....every body that has UAD is super happy with him...

UAD is sure great, but little expensive. Althouhg it is possible to get it at cheaper price somehow, I've read somewhere...

All the people says that Izotope Ozone 3 and Waves are the best plug-ins... well, I tried Izotope and now I'm learning about Waves and both looks great

yeah, I'm watching some Waves' video tutorials and they looks really good... I wish have more time to experiment with this software

Waves Multimaximizer 3 and Izotope Ozone 3 are the best for me. Sometimes I also use PSP Vintage Warmer comnbined with Waves L3.

+1 for Ozone! Easy to use, great preset library and everything you need in the same plug-in. Their tutorials are great reading too. Waves is of course one of the great standards but I have been gravitating towards Ozone since everything is in the same place.

I'll give my vote for Ozone 3 aswell. A great and versatile piece of software. TC Native has got some good stuff aswell.

Yeah Ozone is cool software...but for me Waves L3 is the best limiter for master...and for separate ch I use Waves L2....
@ Ivan...yeah uad is a bit expencive...and that is not the only problem...it is a DSP(PCI)card that use his own processor,and some times you are limited too his own possibilities....but EQ,and compressors are great.....
