Maybe mine is to cheap... I have tried to use it once as a volume booster for soloing but it never worked the way I wanted. By the way it is a Behringer pedal..

Here's a nobody using one.
Further, some of these can act as generic expression pedals. Some units allow any knob to be turned by it. Incredibly useful no matter which way you use it. -------------------- ::jafomatic

It can be useful for example if you have it last in your pedals chain and your tuner before it, you can mute the output to amp while tuning. Also many other uses so I guess its very useful indeed!

You can use it as a gain/volume boost. Simply increase the volume with it to increase the amount if distortion, or decrease it to clean up the signal.
