Hey Guys,

I was doing a bit of cleaning at my house today and I found some of my gear that I don't really used anymore since I don't have enough time to play in a band and for preparing gig. I am mostly playing guitar on my computer for now.

I've found an old volume pedal that I bought a while ago just to make it easier to change guitars between two songs in a gig. My question now is: What the hell a volume pedal is made for ??? tongue.gif

Almost everyone I know has one but doesn't really use it.

Well, it's for changing volume. You might want some parts of a song, like a lead or a solo, to have a higher volume than your rhythm. Also, you might want some parts to have a lower volume than the rest of the song, like an ambient break. smile.gif
I'm sure most volume pedals also work as express/expression pedals, so you can use them for various effects you might have in your digital rack. Like a wah, pitch bend, etc smile.gif

Maybe mine is to cheap... I have tried to use it once as a volume booster for soloing but it never worked the way I wanted. By the way it is a Behringer pedal..

Here's a nobody using one.

Further, some of these can act as generic expression pedals. Some units allow any knob to be turned by it. Incredibly useful no matter which way you use it.

Nah, I don't think so. Cheap or not, it should work. smile.gif
I usually see them working as expression pedals though. For wah and other effects smile.gif

Bends and pre-bend/releases with gain and reverb/delay. Pick with volume off then turn up the volume to swell the sound. It gives amazing intros, soundscapes and slow parts of a song. Of course one can do that with the volume knob but a pedal makes it easier IMO.

Most people use the voume pedal to turn down the volume very quickly between songparts because they would get feedback from the amp if they would just mute the strings; it's basicly the same as turning your voume knob down but more efficeint and faster (hands are free to play)

A friend of mine uses his volume pedal to go from high gain to clean! His volumepdal is set on minimum volume when pushed down instead of no volume. He plays rythm and leads with distortion and when he pushes the pedal down the distortion channel cleans up because it doesn't get enough output and you can play clean stuff!

It can be useful for example if you have it last in your pedals chain and your tuner before it, you can mute the output to amp while tuning. Also many other uses so I guess its very useful indeed! smile.gif

You can use it as a gain/volume boost. Simply increase the volume with it to increase the amount if distortion, or decrease it to clean up the signal.
