im practicing your three string sweeping lesson and i have everything down but i want to build up my speed but i find metrnome practice boring sometimes so can i build up speed by just practicing it over and over?

Yes you can practice it without metronome but it would be great to review your sweeping with metronome like once a week so you know you are still playing rhythmically correctly.

Don't expect to get to 160BPM with 6-tuplets in 2 days! (i better tell you this right away) Sweeping is the toughest technique when it comes to building speed!

I will give you same advice as to all others who uploaded their sweeps. Basically all of you guys hurry too much. You are trying to build speed but you can't even hit correct notes. You HAVE to learn shapes before building speed. Take one shape - d-minor, E-major, c-minor....whatever, and play it all day long. Building licks with sweeping is a very difficult stuff especially if you are new to sweeping.

I was practicing sweeps by taking one single shape and repeating it for hours. If you want to move around shapes - play 1 shape 10 times, than move to another and play it 10 times again. Playing 1 shape once and moving on another won't improve your sweeping at all.

Try practicing like that and record one single shape, just 1 shape in loop. upload it and than we will track your progress together and i will help you to improve further on!

i seem to go faster coming back up compared to going downwards, in 5 string sweep shapes.

Check this lesson out of Pavels, I've been practicing it, it is extremely fun no matter what BPM you use. I'm stuck on 80=( but I can do 100 for like 1/3 of the thing then my hand is like owie or my finger is like *wrong note* lol

heres my playing at 55bpm i would be higher but i dont play with the metronome everyday

When trying to sweep and doing it naturally, take a huge breath and than breath out so you feel your hands are relaxed, than start sweeping and control your hands - they should always be relaxed. Once you you feel relaxed you can work on correct technique.


That mp3 is a good start. Made me to remember how i started -> same boring "turtle-speed" sweeping - so don't worry. You're on the right way!

When you get it up 20BPM - record another one, ok?

dude you have to practice the pullings ( there are pullings right is it from a lesson or your own shape? ) .. its important that the pulled note is as loud as the ones before and after. then it will sound much more like sweeping ~flow you know
