GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ Dallas Guitarist

Posted by: Jerry Lee May 25 2012, 02:15 PM

Hi everyone, my name is Jerry and I am a guitarist in Plano Texas. I just bought an 81 Ibanez Destroyer yesterday and am ready to rip it up.
I do a lot of writing, and could use some advice on setting up a beginners recording studio of types, using my computer, drum machine, etc.

Well, I thought that maybe a little country would also be in the mix, since he mentioned Dallas biggrin.gif

Welcome to GMC! smile.gif I"m Todd and we'd love to have you at our Saturday Video Chat! @ 5PM EST. Jump in to the forums, chats, rec program and Mentoring!

As for starting a home studio GREAT IDEA!

the interface is the heart of your rig so get as nice an interface as you can. If all the budget covers is interface and headphones, you can always add monitors later.

You can get a very spiff SCARLETT interface for abotu$250 US with two good preamps in it.

For a little less you can get a TC Electronic (these guys make killer gear) Desktop Konnect 6 which is an OUTSTANDING unit and shockingly cheap. It uses FIREWIRE not USB. Many of the pricey high end interfaces will rely on FIREWIRE for it's superb bi-directional data handling.

Here is a solid pair of cans that run about $150.

If you have money left, get a pair of KRK Rockit 5 or Alesis active monitors and bingo smile.gif
