I dont tink the pick has anything to do with that the strings are ringing. you have to use palmmute to make it sound clean.

As for the pick i would recomend using Dunlop Lucky 13 picks i use them and i love them or maybe try out th V-pick that alot of peaple here uses

Hi, plektrum = pick

I suggest you get a few thinner and maybe one thicker compared to the one you got and then try to find the one that feels more comfortable.
Don't know for how long you played but I belive thin picks feels easier to use if you're a beginner, at least it was for me. I used something like 0.70

But today, may years later, I use 1.14 and thicker since they give better response. So I use the ones that feel better for me.

Use the pick you're the most comfortable with, just buy a few diffrent oned and try which one fits your needs...
If it does not sound right, then it is you're picking that must be changed because picks alone do not sound bad.

Your pick is fine if you like it, but if you're playing metal, your sounds won't be too versatile if you're always strumming the chords in one position. It's also impossible to mute stuff from this strumming pos.

what to do?
Maybe not hold that hard.

You should only hold the pick hard enough so that you don't drop it.

Welcome to GMC.

Regarding picks I suggest you go to music store and buy a bunch of picks and play them out. You will find the one you like in no time. Also that sound that pick produce is there to stay man, you can tame it a bit, but all it matters is how you play. You must find a way to incorporate that sound into your "own sound" so it's sounds cool. Don't worry, it will come in time.

Try all pick and just decide !!! is the best you can do. Lot of metal guitarists use 2mm pick, I used them for a long time, then move to 3 mm and finally now I'm using 0,71 !!! haha, all of them works well, just need time to feel good with your picks wink.gif

well I use 0,71 because now I'm using another tuning with less tension and I feel more confortable with those picks, I think it's not the most usual tongue.gif

Try as many as you can!
Go with what feels natural. I play metal stuff and use a .88-1.00
But for seven string i use 1.14
