Hey ladies (and Gents)
We always here about the male musicians who inspire people but I was just wondering if anyone had any female musicians who inspired them? Or even just women who you admire musically. Whether it was to play guitar, sing, songwrite whatever.
For me it would be
Stevie Nicks: her songwritting is so raw and emotional. She's been around forever and she's still going strong. When she sings it's just pure emotion; I still get goose bumps when I hear "Silver Springs" or "Landslide". Just an amazing talent.
Joan Jett: probably my favorite female guitarist. I've loved her since I was a kid. I can still remember doing air guitar to " I love Rock 'n' Roll" pretending to be Jett. I wanted to be in a rock band so bad....still do kind of....
Mia Dyson: Rocks!
Joan Baez: Lovely!
Will elaborate later, gotta go to work.
Kim Deal: need I say more.
There's a lot of others, but mostly singers. I don't know very many female musicians who inspire me unfortunately :/
Nancy Wilson From the band Heart.
Not to Mention her sister Ann Wilson on Vocals.
If you've ever heard any of Heart's music you'll see that Nancy could just flat out Play.
The Intro to the song "Crazy on you" is well Crazy!
Grace Slick. Her voice is amazing. And she was sooo beautiful in the 60's
http://youtube.com/watch?v=Q1cfTMdjkYM Jefferson Airplane - White Rabbit.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=OXKEMnDnQ4c - Jefferson Airplane - Somebody to love. I think everyone have heard this song. Its soooooo awesome.
Lets not forget Carola!
http://youtube.com/watch?v=AzgIGom7gFw
Btw swedes. What is the name of the Carola song where she sings "Bli her i mörket hos meg. Tiden den stannar når vi rör i hverandra". That song is rockin' man
My Favorite Women Who Rock
Angela Gossow: Arch Enemy
Kate French: Vainglory
Simone Simmons: Epica
Tarja Turunen: Ex-Nightwish
Annete Olzen: Nightwish
Doro Pesch: Warlock/ Doro
Kimberly Goss: Singery
Floor Jansen: After Forever
These Musicians inspire me greatly, especially Gossow, Pesch, Turunen, Simmons, and Kate French, there vocals are amazing and there songwriting is top knotch, even though they are vocalists, they make me want to excel better at guitar, and music composing, and just music in general.
Bonnie Raitt

Metal Fire cracker is a regular for my daily exercise routine, which is intense. Not a fast song but emotionally intense. Love that song, love that whole CD.
I like KT Tunstall. I like her song and she is lovely. I don't know her personally but seeing her on TV and reading her interviews, she seems to be very nice parson, too.

She is the best girl i've ever seen shred up a guitar.
No.
One of my three all time favorites.
I base these on these criteria
1) Attractive on stage. Call me shallow, but sorry, I think all singers should be attractive, goes with the turf.
2) Able to sing multi octave range, in tune with a musical tone. Like people have felt for say, that past 6 million years, other than with metal heads today. Also no screaming. I want singing. That is why I never cared for Heart. Besides getting fat, she screamed. Ok to be fat, jut not as a lead singer, except for the late Momma Cass, but that was an anomaly, pretty much a one time thing.
3) Play with a rock band, not pop. With rock musicians.
#3 on my all time list (perhaps best voice in a musical sense, but did not do enough songs to be higher). However, definitely top of the list in the cuteness factor. She later married John McEnroe btw, certainly most entertaining tennis player of all time.

That is Bon Jovi before he was Bon Jovi, and Elton John's bass player in her band (now decease). I have seen another video with Letterman's band leader playing with her.
edit: here is the one with Paul Shaffer (Letterman's man). Looks like same period based on hair cut. Bon Jovi still with her. Like the way she wiggles her butt walking off right at the end.

Jennifer Batten - amazing metal guitarist
Lita Ford - good guitarist, great frontwoman
Of all the female artists out there, only one truly inspired me. http://www.toriamos.com/ I've been to several concerts and she's just amazing. Whether solo on her piano or with her band, she completely blow me away.
Another band I loved listening to and who in a way has become special to me is http://www.nodoubt.com/
Some others I enjoy (enough to buy cd's) are http://trijntje.nl/ and
http://www.anouk.nl/
Adding 2 to the list:
