Hi Guys,

I have been practicing this intro for some time now . Please advice me what can i do to make this sound better. there is another youtube video i am embedding - someone else covering the whole song. I think it sound great. How can i practice to sound more like this guy. My plan is to eventually complete the whole song by correcting my mistakes to sound more like this guy.

My attempt 1

It's going to be hard to emulate the spanky tone of a strat on an LP

Yeah Strats and Les Pauls are different beasts.

You could stay by switching to the neck pickup and rolling the tone and volume (gain) down a bit on your guitar. Then fiddle with amp eq but it's not easy.

Your playing sounds great, just keep practicing, you'll get there. The first thing to stand out to me as far as tone, is I'd add treble/presence and less reverb. Just keep experimenting smile.gif

Hmm, I need to listen to this on my monitors. I only heard it on my phone whilst in London and the LP sounded like it had more treble and was thinner sounding. That's why I suggested the neck pup.

Yeah, after hearing it on my monitors I'd go with more treble, less reverb and the neck pickup, the strat in the video looks like it's in position 4, neck and middle.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

I love to have a fender in future. meanwhile i have to do my best with what i have.

thanks for the suggestions on improving the tone. will try reducing the reverb and increasing the treble.

from your feedback it appears i am on the right track and practicing and guidance from GMC community should help me getting closer to the
cover of little wing i posted.

thanks,

sumit

You're getting there.

How much do you listen to the Hendrix version?
LP, Strat ... whatever. The 'tone' really isn't the issue. It's the feel.
Get more of that and tone becomes secondary.

Here's the SRV version - the best cover version - as the Jimi studio version is not available on youtube.

yes i am looking for more help in capturing the feel right . the tone is always latter. at least for me.

i know i am not doing something right. and i don't know really what smile.gif

perhaps listening to the jimi version more would autocorrect that smile.gif

thanks for appreciating my efforts

I am going to put up another attempt soon after listening the jimi version closely.
