Learn some simple stuff that you can whip out and play at any time. Learn some stuff that won't take you too long, have fun with it, and keep practicing those lessons. Just my opinion.

thaks for reply wink.gif looks like you got me..the point is..i'm almost have the Pavel lesson{heavy metal 3} on slowet backing track{clean--almost} rolleyes.gif i'm know the real point is in 120 bpm..hope when i'm make it clean on the slowetst backing then i'm be ok..but like i'm set boring stuff

actualy maybe i'm be all ready ok with the lesson but i'm have problem with 3 finger power chord..i'm play them well now but no perfect..if i'm be play that song just with 2 finger power chord..i'm be maybe done with 100bpm backing
but everything bad is good for something becouse even if i'm bored with that i'm improve my 3 finger power chord rolleyes.gif

Well, you should pick one number of lessons and stick with it until you finish them in one tempo. But besides that try to work on some other techniques so you can rest your fingers from the lesson techniques and don't be bored. Also I suggest that you don't choose the lesson that will take you more than a month to complete.

Hi Rene,
I know what you mean, it's easy to become bored if you are trying to get a lesson 100% right. What I do is learn a lesson up to the point where I can play it right with the slowest backing track. I then move on to a new lesson that is a little harder, or has different techniques to learn. I keep the number of lessons I am learning, or trying to bring up to the right tempo, to no more than three. When I bring a lesson up to tempo I'll then start a new lesson. I find that this helps hold my interest, and I don't have heaps of unfinished lessons. Also, I do one or two exercise lessons, such as Muris's "Timing Exercise". The exercise lessons can help your technique and eventually help you move on to the more difficult lessons. You can also learn new scales and modes, practise your timing with a metronome, learn some music theory etc. Kris has a lesson called "How To Practice Guitar" which should be helpful. If you divide your practice time between learning scales, improving your timing with a metronome and learning a lesson, it should help decrease the boredom. But, some practice sessions may be a little boring, it's just a matter of working through it knowing that you will become a better guitarist and musician.

Good Luck.

I quote JVM, don't spend so much on long lesson, try to learn from short and useful stuff.

I suggest that you do different things from practicing lessons all the time. Try to improvise over some backings, for example.

You have loads of free downloadable backing tracks here:
http://www.guitarbt.com/index.php?page=dl_list&cat=Jam%20Tracks

Why don't you download the Jam Track Blues in D, and try to improvise with the pentatonic over it?
Or get the Gilmour like backing, and improvise something in minor scale.

I bet you'll have a blast!

Or you could try to take part in some of the collabs here at GMC, download the backings and see if you come up with something, if you don't at least you practiced something new and had fun anyway!

And last but not least: what about using some of the riffs and licks you have learnt from the lessons, and mix it all up to make some new song yourself? And maybe record it?

Or record a simple chord backing and play something over it...

There's tons of stuff you can try besides the lessons smile.gif
Enjoy!

I agree completly! this also what I do, when I learn something that is beyond my limits, I learn it to a certain point when it becomes really difficult and tidious to move further, than I start learning another lesson OR I go back to a previous easier lesson with the same technique and move on because now it's easier for me after I learned something harder...
Gah, wasn't sure how to write this so I hope you understand me!

I'd say you should learn some songs as well as lessons and that normally keeps the interest.

It sounds like your on the right track man. A practice routine is hard cause if your like me you don't want it to feel "routine" You want it to be enjoyable and productive. Not boring and feeling like your getting no where. That's when you get frustrated. At least I do.

Don't make a chore out of practice. Just try to keep it interesting for YOU. Practice lessons in the style you like, even try a few songs just for fun or jam to a backing track like you've been doing. Keeping it fun really helps with motivation I think.
