GMC Forum _ CHILL OUT _ Retro Gameing !

Posted by: mattacuk Sep 13 2007, 04:54 PM

The topic on game music really got me thinking about the golden days of gameing. As the then proud owner of a Commodore Amiga I enjoyed amaizing sound and graphics for the time!

I also owned a Sega Megadrive/Genesis and a Super Nintendo - both great machines.

I would like hear more about GMC'ers first computers/games systems, your fave games etc biggrin.gif

I love the classic 8-bit Nintendo (NES). I never had it when I was a kid, but several of my friends did. I picked it up (along with quite a huge bundle of games) some 6-7 years ago, and I still love it! smile.gif
(though I don't really play that much anymore... hm... perhaps tonight would be a nice night for a game or two of ice hockey or north & south? smile.gif )

The Amiga is the only one I ever considered a true gaming platform.

Not really on topic, but close: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYvZnTFpip0

The Amiga was awsome. There is still a dedicated following in europe, i think especially so in Germany!

Here is a great site i found the other day http://www.lemonamiga.com/

First computer I used - wasn't mine though, belonged to work - was a Commodore Pet. Used to take about 20 mins to boot up. So we'd start it, go make a coffee, drink the coffee come back and find it had crashed. Not much different to Vista laugh.gif .

First computer I had was a Sinclair Spectrum and fav game was Attic Attack.

Cheers,
Tony

being 17 i didnt have much of a chance to explre all these consoles when i was young- i remember bashing on a megadrive tho. great laughs

I have always loved the Megadrive... mostly because of sonic and the fact I made about 200 bucks off trading megadrives and megadrive games back when I was in primary school.

Nintendo Entertainment System

Oh maaaan, I have alot of great times with that thing when I was a kid. My cousin actually still has it, and it works! I tried it not long ago.
My favorite game was of course Super Mario Bros 3! Excellent game.

What about Nintendo 64? It was awesome IMO. Especially the James Bond stuff - where you could play it up to 4 players multiplayer biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

A very good system the N64, but not quite old enough to be considered retro yet !!! smile.gif I did love Golden eye on that, good for parties etc

Thought so! But anyway - if you look at it like cartridge vs. CD/DVD age than it can work as retro platform biggrin.gif

Yeah N64 was great, but I never had one sad.gif
But I played very much with my cousin and friends. Mario64 was pretty cool, Mario Kart also and much more smile.gif

Agreed biggrin.gif its definatly a classic system in many's hearts. The Atari Jaguar was also a much overlook system, with titles like Alien vs Predator and the "all new" Wolfenstein 3D useing the doom engine.

Side tracking slightly; Today i dont own any games systems, but i have a very keen interest in all "retro" systems, and i think legal emulation is definatly very good fun!

Conkers Bad Fur Day on N64 was friggin hilarious

Posted by: mattacuk Sep 16 2007, 05:25 AM

So the SNES is top of the tops at GMC - well it was a great system so i can see why smile.gif
