I've just joined GMC for about two weeks now and Kris said to practice with a metronome for every exercise; however, I'm having a difficult time getting use to it. It hard for me to keep it consistance. Any tips on how I can imporove?

The biggest trick is to start sloooow ... you are learning a new skill - playing exactly in time - so you should expect it to take some effort. You need to slow it down until you can hit each note in the exercise, in time, for a while without stopping, then speed it up slowly over time. It doesn't matter what your numbers are like compared to others, the most important thing is how much you improve over time, so don't be afraid to dial in a low speed - pretty soon you will be a lot faster!

Yeah thats some good advice. I took Kris's advice in playing slow and makeing sure your on time and watch technique - speed really does come naturally over time!!! cool.gif

You know I've played w/ a metronome for a while and can't seem to keep a consistent beat with tapping at high speeds. I can usually do it with other left hand exercises/licks but not tapping it's weird!
I might be doing it right but always have that strange feeling I'm doing it wrong
anyone else?

Yeah well i've been playing around with the metronome and i keep wanting to go faster it's easier to do stuff at like 80 bpm then it is 45. I'm having trouble keeping with the beat it sounds like it stops for a split second when it is actually me going to fast for the metronome... please help me

The exact same thing happens to me. When I play with a metronome it feels a little like the click moves on its own, toying with me.

My advice, slow it down 2-4bpm, and say out loud each beat count "one e and a two e and a three e and a four e and a" until you want to shoot yourself. Rock your body to the beat, still saying it out loud. Then start playing your guitar while still speaking.

You'll look autistic...but it will help.
