Fantastic. I knew just how huge the universe must be, but I have to admit, viewing this video showed me how I underestimated the size of the universe, especially regarding the distance in light years.
Thanks a lot for sharing!

for example gravity is just a thoery.

Its a theory, but it describes reality. At least there is no evidence that the theory of gravity is wrong.

sorry but gravity on earth is a law, gravity from the sun that keeps the earth orbiting is a law .- evolution is a theory smile.gif

Dont agree with you either...there is no thing as a Law (in the sense you use it), as long as you are inside(!) a game you cant directly see what the laws are. You just can assume what the laws are by making theories and proving them by experiments. Thats the way science works. All experiments show that the theory of gravitation as described by Einstein in the general relativity is right.

By the way: Some things are called "Laws", but thats misleading. Thats the way i understand physics after 5 semester at university.

EDIT: Here an extract from wiki:
QUOTE
Modern physics describes gravitation using the general theory of relativity, in which gravitation is a consequence of the curvature of spacetime which governs the motion of inertial objects. The simpler Newton's law of universal gravitation provides an accurate approximation for most calculations.

Look at the last sentece, here you can see that Reality is for example not as easy as it was described by Newtons LAW. Its just an approximation. That means it works, but not for all cases. So there are experiments that you cant explain by Newtons LAW, so you need General Relativity Theory.

so if gravity is not a law what keeps the earth rotatinr around the sun---and therefore maintain life on earth
i might be wrong but isn't a law someting that can't be changed ,like 2 plus 2 is 4 , or will this ever change?

Ok, i found something to solve our Problem with laws and theories...from wiki:

QUOTE
Simply stated, while a law notes that something happens, a theory explains why and how something happens.

So you can call the rotating around the sun a law, because you can observe it every day. If that is your intention than you can use the word law. I am fine with that. Maybe i misunderstood you.

EDIT: My point is: Laws can be completely false, thats why i stumble over the word "law". Look for example for "Dulong–Petit law", its total crap for low temperatures, completely wrong. But it works for normal temperatures quite well. You have to consider this when talking about laws.

Haha. My math deserted me late last night, it seems. I read it as x*10^21 for some reason.

Anyway, it's still a lot.

very cool!

Yeah, I agree, I don't think there's any chance that we are the only intelligence in the universe...

It's just that it's hard for our minds to comprehend the size of the universe

fiar enough smile.gif
my diffinition of a law is something that cannot be changed by new information--- 2 plus 2 = 4
no new info can change this outcome without changing the dynamics of the question
would this diffine a law accurately?
and if it could be changed i would not consider it a law
