GMC Forum _ GEAR & PRODUCTION _ Changing String

Posted by: Sweden Dec 2 2007, 01:13 PM

Hello!

I managed to pull of my e string (the 1st) today. I have never changed stings before so don't really know how to do it. I got a Ibanez RG 350GX and my question is, is it hard to change the sting by yourslelf if you never done it before? or should I hand it in to the store and pay for them to do it??

Thanks

Its not that hard to figure out ...

YOu have a floating tremelo but changing one string at a time on those is no big deal - most important thing is to make sure you replace it with the samne gauge of string or your whammy will get a little out of whack.

All you need to do is loosen the lock at the nut, unthread the old string, feed the new one through from the bridge end, wrap it around the tuning peg and tighten, then keep tuning it for a day or so. When it settles down lre-tighten the lock at the nut.

You might also want to buy a string winder. It makes string changes go a lot faster...

Yeah man, don't worry just go for it! You need to know how to change strings for yourself..Try it and than if you are sure that you can't do it , take it to the shop and ask to watch how it is done...But I'm sure you won't have any problems!!

Cheers !

If you don`t try it you will never learn so get busy:

- Unlock the strings at the nut using an Allen wrench
- Remove the old string
- tighten the new one on the bridge
- Insert the new string and wind it arond the peg (get a string wounder as it is so much easier with ti and the cost is very low)
- Leave time for string to strech up a little.
