GMC Forum _ Uploads _ My band just recorded our demo

Posted by: This Dougs For U Jan 12 2007, 12:55 AM

http://www.myspace.com/thesunsettheory

I play primary lead in the band, although on our page I'm only playing lead on Control. We have more songs than just those recorded, but those are the four we used for that.

We've only been together about 4 months, and we just wanted a rough cheap demo to give to clubs, and I think it turned out pretty good for that!

I'm gonna upload this song, the vocals are f'ed, and we played MUCH too slow, but since this is a guitar community, I figure you guys may like the guitar work. I tracked both guitars for the intro. We are going to re-record this song next month, because we ran out of time at the studio to retake it, so I just have this shitty version.

Thanks for the listen,

Doug

Good song and good playing :-)

Be sure to repost when you have recorded the new and faster version of it.

Yes its a great song!!!
With these kinda songs the band really has some potential
and if you say this is the crappy version then the real one must be pretty good
do you perform on regular basis with your band?

EDIT: Disregard this post. will download and listen and then comment. -.-

EDIT2: Now that the forums up here's my judgement. This song sounds exactly like green day and sum41 and whatever those band names are and Im sorry to say but just ain't good (imo). It's too generic. However, the solo in the song is above average for sure when it comes to this genre of music. I did like the build-up around 3:00 something. That really spiced up the ending. I'm more of a metal guy so it isnt really my type, but for those who are into this sort of music Im sure its great.

Too quote Lars Ulrich "We tried to play simpler and not putting 47 riffs into every song" and add that I cried. I miss those 47 riff songs.. just more interesting to listen too. Slightly off topic but wth.

I appreciate the feedback guys, thanks alot smile.gif

Our band has only played out once so far, and is about to hit the club circuit in St. Louis starting in late February. We actually finished a couple of those songs while in the studio (I know I know, very stupid idea when your on the clock). The next couple of months should be a blast, as I've never been a gigging guitarist, so it'll all be new to me.

Stalkonsum, I really enjoy metal, even though I'm more of rock/blues guy, so I understand where your coming from. Trust me it would be blast playing Justice For All type 60 riff songs, but the other guys in the band wouldn't be too keen on that biggrin.gif (not to mention I'm not that strong of a player yet)

We have other songs that are heavier, with cooler guitar riffs (IMO at least smile.gif ) that I'll have to let you hear. I'm still a new lead guitar player, and not that good, but I'm practicing my ass off to try and get better. GMC really helps.

Thanks guys!

Well, over the past 6 months or so I've moved from loving Pantera and stuff like that to the softer side of guitar: John Mayer, Jimi Hendrix, RHCP, etc., so I thought it was all pretty good. You guys sound really solid together, and good luck at your first show next month (you'll love it, trust me).

Just asking: has anyone else gone from being a total metalhead to not really liking metal at all like I did?

I think it's nice. I agree picking up the tempo might help..just open the song in The Amazing Slow Downer and increase the tempo for a quick test -its a free program if you Google for it. I have a feeling speeding it up will make it less "ballad". I could never fault someone's work based on genre. But, the part near the end with the palm muted heavy guitar coming in did add some punch, no reason why that technique could not be worked in more throughout the song.

I think it was really nice. The solo was good.

I really liked it, it pains me to hear how many bands are out there unsigned that can play like this.

I listened to a few of the tracks on your site, the one thing I would say is that some of the lyrics are a little rushed, they don't quite fit in time with the music. Other than that, great stuff to listen to smile.gif

Once again thanks for all the feedback. I know the song I posted sounded like there wasn't much energy and whatnot, but that is why we scrapped the demo. We perform the song much better, with different vocal arrangements and such. I just wanted to post it because I wrote all the guitar parts in the song.

The demo's of the other songs turned out decent for the price we payed, I mean we only payed 20 bucks an hour =).

We are working with an actual producer next month, to get two songs done professionally. He's a big name here in St. Louis, so were pretty excited. I'll post our recordings with him when we get em done.

Again thanks for the listen and feedback, both good and bad!!! Our first paying gig is tomorrow night !!!
