Lets get started Bill!

I read carefully your guitar CV and you mentioned improvement in alternate and sweep picking regarding technique. I have decided to give you couple of alternate picking exercises/licks that I would like you to record for me (audio/video).

Your 1st assignment is :

- Record each lick in 3 different tempos! Make sure tempos are at least 15-20 bpm difference.
- Try to show me your maximum tempo for these licks, I want you to push yourself here!
- Feel free to ask for more exercises if these are too easy for you!
- Upload your takes in this thread. Ideally I would like you to do videos, put them on Youtube and embed them here.

Time limit for 1st assignment would be a week from now. If you manage to do all the exercises before that, I will put more exercises here for you!

Feel free to ask me any questions, I am here to help always smile.gif

I'm on it! Expect mp3's. I ordered a digital camcorder on Amazon, but the seller backed out on the sale (entirely lame). I'd find another method of purchase but I'm totally drained financially, as I'm funding my own wedding next Friday. So, video recorder purchase is delayed. But it will come soon.

Thanks again for putting the effort forth in this endeavor. I'll do my best to match it. I see you've got the lion's share of students in the MTP. These are relatively challenging exercises and I'll show you what I've got asap.

Excellent Bill. I am very happy to hear about your wedding smile.gif You must be very busy with organizing part. I can move the deadline after the weeding? Let me know what works for you!
Digital camcorder thing is really lame ! I hope you get one soon, for time being MP3 will be good for these exercises.

Let me know if you need more exercises!

So... First question. First lesson.... First measure.... I don't know if this is a good sign wink.gif.

You suggest fingerings in the exercise. The third note (Fret 5 on the high E; A note) is assigned to finger 3. I can play it faster/cleaner using finger 2.

Do you want me to use your recommended fingering or the most comfortable fingering?

BTW, the current deadline is fine. Thanks for the extension offer, though.

If you can do faster with 2nd finger then just go ahead and adjust fingerings the way they suit you. Important is to practice one sort of fingering with these so you can get them up to tempo faster!

Hey Pedja,

Here's where I'm at with the current assignment. Ideally, I'd like to keep working on them and post better, faster versions later. But, I took this free time as an opportunity to record and demonstrate how the exercises are coming. This way, if I run out of free time with work and wedding arrangements for the rest of this week I'll still have something up. And maybe you can give me some pointers early and I'll be able to apply your advice for the next post. The higher tempos of each exercise are my "uncomfortable but sorta doing it" top speeds, as of now.

Thanks!

-Bill

Edit: P.S. I'm using a guitar tuned down to C. So, though these recordings are 2 whole steps low, they are played in the correct positions/fingerings (I believe).

Thanks! Posting what I did was a good decision. I'm definitely strapped for time till Monday. After seeing some others' posts I realize I should have chosen 3 distinct tempos and have record one exercise for each. I'll do that in my next post. Thanks for the help!

You did great Bill. I heard them all and its sounding very good. Keep working on 3 tempos of your choice. Just remember to have at least 20bpm in between each of the tempos.
Let me know if you have any more questions.
