GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ Rhythm Guitar Collab
Posted by: Kristofer Dahl Mar 11 2020, 08:42 AM
Inspired by https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?showtopic=60740 topic - I figured we could try something new!
Most of our collabs revolve around lead guitar playing - but this time I figured we could try to record rhythm guitar instead.
So grab any of the drum tracks below and record some chords or a riff. I will then stitch it together and see what we get.
* No need to play in any particular key
* Upload two audio files, one with your isolated guitar track and one where we can hear the backing track as well
* No video needed, the final product will be audio only
This is a bit experimental so fingers crossed we will get some takes. I plan on recording one as well!

Thats a very cool riff!! Maybe we should all share what key we are playing in and such? What key is that? B? E Minor? I like it a lot.
I wonder if we could add lead bits on top of this once we have all the rythm bits stitched together? Also, will there be a bass track? Should we record bass tracks along with our guitar tracks?

All of this sounds great to me Todd, perhaps you want to record some lead bits you got over Cael's killer rhythm? If you feel like it - go for it!
Yes - if someone wants to record bass I say go for it!! If not I will try to compensate for it in the mix or try to add it myself.

Will do!! BEN comes up with some seriously killer riffs They are modern and yet have a bit of blood from the early days of metal thrown in. It makes a great combination imho!

It's in Eminor
Feel free to lay some leads down.

My fave key! I"m working up some leads now! Are you still thinking about an E.P. or some kind of release for all your tunes? I think you have enough material now for a full release! Love your music and hope you put it out there when you can through distrokid.com or what not so that it gets to itunes and spotify.

This is a cool experiment!!
I've recorded some ideas over the first 3 backings. These are 3 variations of the same idea.

Fantastic guys - it feels like this one will take off!
My plan is to not interfere while you guys find the sweet spots and record your own takes. As soon as things slow down I will start mix 'n matching all the takes and possibly add my own stuff.

Awesome Phil - we are now starting to see lots of different approaches to this. This feels like a neat old school type of rock rhythm.
I agree #3 sounds best on its own, but the wah effect might be tricker to fit in the mix - we'll see!
Can't wait to start combining these π

Awesome Cursin, this worked really well as a subtle harmony!

Here is a first version of the mix. We obviously have more recorded sections to come - but in order to not overwhelm I think it is a good idea to polish the sections we have established so far.
mix1.mp3 ( 1.78MB )

* more ideas on Gab's section starting 00:39

Let me know if you need my dual guitar tracks separated or if the one file is ok It's actually two guitars, not a processor as it may sound like in some bits

Sorry for the delay in Bass, I just found an M-Audio Black Box Interface and am liking the Gallien Kruger Bass Amp sim better than the one in Amplitude so just have to rig it up and re-record!!

Cool Sensible! Looking forward to it.
I intend to add some kind of of lead to it and hopefully we will be able to make some progress π

Sensible's bass really took the mix up to a new level.
I also added a spoken vocal line to see if it gives some inspiration

I think think this one has lots of potential - it just goes down to which direction we want it to take.
I have added some possible intro vocals-thingies. I could use both some dubs here to fatten it up and make it more dramatic.
There is also some interesting room in between the "Isolate".
We could also give the tune instrumental vibes - by starting a melodic guitar theme around 00:57

Wow!! This is a now a killer song!!
The GMC radio idea came to mind again. I can imagine myself opening GMC, turning on the radio and listening to this amazing tune.
The final chorus is very emotive. This is now in repeat here.
Great job!!

Top notch! This turned out great. Your vocals turned out great as well!!! Works as a rock tune in a big way. Nice!!!
Yeah, would go great on GMC Radio or really any rock radio station.
KRIS: Would you be up for recording your vocal performance on video? I'd be happy to try and build a music video for this. It's been a while so folks may have to learn their guitar parts over again. I sure would as i can't remember what I played but it's in my fave key so I'm sure I could figure it out
