Can someone give me any suggestions of a guitar that works for metal/shred, that lasts the rest of my life(not some cheap ass copy) and cost around 8-900$?
Thanks

I'm a little sceptical of buying used guitars on the internet

Best way to go man. Otherwise, go for an ibanez or a shechter.

Ok thanks, I'll check those out.
Maybe I'll go to the local store some day and check out different brands. Too bad they almost only got cheap beginner brands
maybe they got something new now, dunno xD

Gibson Explorer Studio. I have had it for 4 years now.
You see, I used to think it was just awesome for blues and metal, but then I tried my dads Fender Stratocaster. I hadnt tried it since I bought my Explorer, and it turned out that when I played the Strat I was in heaven. Becuase it is a thousand times better for blues playing than my Explorer. Though, the Strat do not work for metal at all.
Sure, my Explorer works fine for metal, but what if I sell it, and buy a much cheaper guitar with alot fatter, heavier tone? And maybe even a Floyd Rose tremolo, if that doesnt get too expensive.
The only positive thing I can think of at the moment with my Explorer is that it got the best neck that I have ever played on, and it weigh almost nothing, great for live playing.
So I kinda thought: Strat for blues playing, and a new rather cheap guitar for metal. (Cheap is around 800-900$.)

Strats are great guitars, no doubt. But unless you're really hell bent on it, I think you can find another guitar that can play the blues just fine and do metal at the same time. For example my parker can certainly do that with it's humbucker in the bridge and neck/mid single coils., If you want new they're $1400ish. If you're still bent on getting a strat AND something though, I'd still say look at an ibanez or shechter.
Thought of replacing pickups?

I just found a Washburn x40 Pro for ~860$ from a norwegian dealer. It used to cost twice, or so it says.
To me it looks pretty good, I have no experience with this guitar though.
Maple Body Platinum Metallic Finish
Floyd Rose Bridge
HSH pickups
Rosewood fingerboard
X inlay at 12th Fret
Exclusive Grover 18:1 gear ratio tuners

I have replaced the pickups. It got better, but still a pretty weak tone. As I said, the body is extremely light.
Btw if I buy a guitar that is both good for metal and blues I'll just buy a Les Paul.
But to save money I figured I might just buy a cheap guitar for metal, and stay with the Strat

Ah okay, well I thought you might have been against the les paul blues sound (I don't know how that could be, but I thought maybe you wanted single coil blues sound).
So, in this case, I say get yourself a mighty fine, nice ol' http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Schecter-Hellraiser-C1-FR-Electric-Guitar?sku=513134.

I love them both
Though, the Strat might have a thinner neck? I cant really remember, I only tried a Les Paul a few mintues in a guitar shop when I was at vacation this summer.
Thanks alot, I'll go check with the local store if they are able to get one of those.

The Strat neck is way thinner than the LP. So most likely, much thinner than your Explorer as well (I've always wanted an explorer
). My Telecaster has a similar neck to the strat but not quite. The Tele is the second most comfortable neck I've ever played, after my nitefly. The strat neck in other words is pretty comfortable but I guess you already know that

Yeah the Strat neck is pretty good. Though, its a little unusual going from the Explorer to the Strat, when it comes to playability.
Btw, been watching some videos and reviews of the Schecter Hellraiser C-1 FR. Looks and sounds awesome! Seems like everyone are happy with it. I definatly need to check it out.
Thanks again.

It's a really nice sounding guitar. Personally I tried it out and it wasn't for me, but it could have just been a bad set of strings or something It felt solid and well put together, sounded great. If you get one let me know how you like it

I Just have to suggest a Jackson.
Every Ibanez I've tried had something weird to the neck
ESP's are quite beefy, and your probably not lookin for somtin like that.
The jackson's ive tried just felt right in my hands, Im just suggesting this because we both play gibson and I'm just letting you know what I feal is comftourble other then my gibson
might I suggest a v?
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Jackson-JVX10-X-King-V?sku=512235
Nothing is more metal then a black v
I've tried a really cheap jackson v and it felt amazing, quite close to my sg so I cant imagine what this model is like.
But of course you just gotta try all them out for yourself.

Jacksons are cool too. I like Dinkys.
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Jackson-DKMG-Dinky?sku=512231
"Jackson's compound-radius fingerboard curves more dramatically at the nut for easy chording and flattens out as it approaches the neck joint for low-action bends without fretting out. With a more relaxed hand, you'll play better!"
My parker has this kind of neck as well, it's pretty cool I must say.

Ibanez all the way, ive never played a better guitar for metal/ shred

ibanez has a prestiege model (their high end) with a edge pro trem (edge pro = some like it more then a legit floyd rose) for about 800-900 dollars. it's called the RG1570 (i think). they also have the pretty awesome looking Xipos for about 700, comes with some super hot dimarzio pickups and an edge III trem (comparable to a floyd rose LICENCED).

Hey Robin,
I have a little gem for you, I've bought two of these guys and in my opinion they are one
of the best guitars on the market. The neck and action on them is prestine to be quite honest,
excellent quality guitar. They are called Mavericks!!. Not cheap copys of anything really and they
are in or around the price range you mentioned. If I could buy 10 of them I really would, once you
play one you will understand what I mean....

http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/reviews/electric_guitars/maverick/f-1/ / (9.1/10 Rating!!)
http://www.musicgearreview.com/review-display/8060.html (5 Star Rating)
Check out the website although it seems that they have ceased producing them for a while, if you
are extremely lucky you might be able to pick one up on ebay or something.
Go for it in my opinion, I know guys who own PRS customs, LP Customs etc etc and the only guitar
they will gig with is a Maverick...
Hope this helps...
Barry.

Noticed that Sounds Great stock the Maverick Barry. They don't carry rubbish so just on that it must be a quality axe.
Cheers,
Tony
and no I have no economic or marketing or legal connection with the shop. Just a very happy customer of theirs in the past

i bought a Epiphone les paul last year (i didnt have the money for a proper one) and replaced the pickups with EMG 81's... definatly worth the money and works brilliant for metal and blues imo.

Thanks alot everyone.
I actually bought a really nice guitar from a friend of my dad. I havent payed him yet, but I think I will get it really cheap.
I'm not even sure if they make it anymore, I cant even find the brand on the internet. The only thing I could find was two reviews, and they were really happy with it, I am aswell.
The brand is Weststone and the model is Pantera x275.
I really like it, I love the sound, the neck, the design, and it NEVER goes out of tune. I'd call it a metal guitar
Maybe I can post pictures and sound from it.
The next time I need a guitar I'll check your suggestions out
Thanks again guys.

I had a Westone thunder Ia in the 80s - it was reasonably priced yet well made by a Japanese company, it served me well - enjoy!
