maybe a songwriting competition, the song has to be complete with backing track.
except this one has a twist... you must include riffs/solos from 1 lesson at GMC. youd have to select the lesson and then write a song around the solos and riffs provided. winner gets decided by vote? -------------------- Guitars: Epiphone Les Paul Standard w/ Dual EMG 81 Pickups. ok heres another suggestion that may be of interest... An Advertising Competition Make an advert for GMC using either a jingle or a poster or a flash presentation or a video or any other media. This advert could not only win you a cool prize but it would benefit GMC too, maybe being used to advertise the website in some way obviously there should be guidelines and rules but all that is the fineprint EDIT--- Just to clarify a jingle would be like an advert you heard on the radio or a television This post has been edited by muntahunta: Aug 13 2009, 02:36 PM -------------------- Guitars: Epiphone Les Paul Standard w/ Dual EMG 81 Pickups. Wiki Writers Competition Round II The first one encouraged a lot of people to write high quality articles and it filled the wiki with more than 100 articles in juat a few months! I'm all for a new Wiki competition! (Obviously , I wouldn't take part but organize it this time!) We can make a section for it where we keep a regularly updated scoreboard, links to the entries & marks they get, competition guidelines etc. On top of that there are several wiki projects going on such as the guitarist & genres lists, needed entries, as well as many different portals going on that should inspire participants to pick and create new entries. Plus a lot of new & old GMCers would get an extra motivation to finally jump in the Wikiers ranks! Wiki! Wiki! Wiki! -------------------- Guitars:
Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster, Ibanez RG2570MZ, Epiphone SG G-400 Amp: Vox AC4TVH head + V112TV cab Effects: Vox Satchurator, Vox Time Machine, Dunlop CryBaby, Boss MT-2, Boss CE-5, Boss TU-2, Boss ME-70 Recording: Line-6 POD X3 + FBV-Express, Pandora PX5D GMC wants YOU to take part in our Guitar-Wikipedia! Have a good time reading great articles and writing your own with us in our GUITAR WIKI! Share your playing and get Pro-advice from our Instructors: Join REC |

How bout a new T-shirt design contest? Or, maybe a GMC banner contest for the future layout?

As far as I understand, most of the competitions are about 1 of these 2 things or both:
1) Making GMCers to practice and become better guitarists 2) Promote a features of the site So what about a REC program competition?? That should make people practice GMC lessons like crazy This post has been edited by Gus: Aug 13 2009, 03:30 PM -------------------- my "Thank you GMC!" video
If you like it please vote in the competition ;-) Gus Stairway to Guitar Heaven - my practice agenda Check out my lesson here Phrygian Dominant Solo lesson Gear : Ibanez RGT320q (I just love the neck-thru sustain), Washburn EA-20SDL (acoustic 6 string), Standard strat (Mexico), POD X3 Live Some of my Guitar heroes: Jimmy Page, Slash, Kirk Hammett, Augusto Licks, Joe Satriani, Gus G, David Gilmour, Mark Knopfler... |

Feels like the last one featured songwriting and arrangement so the wiki concept may be the better way to go. If we want it to be songwriting related without being a repeat of the last one, here's something I've been wanting to do/see for a long time for both music and comedy.
Some of my favorite songs are not really my favorite songs but rather are tunes that some musician or group has re-arranged into a new musical style. This is often best when the "target" style is far removed from the original. Gangsta Rap to Acoustic Folk, Gangsta Rap to Country, etc. Some examples from youtube, if it will let me: Dynamite Hack made a terrible early 90's rap "Boyz in the Hood" into a great song: The Gourds (I always thought this was OAR) made a great country revision of Snoop's "Gin N Juice": We even have a few lessons like this, in the "Canon Rock" collection. I think Marcus' band Blind Guardian has a cool metal version of Surfin' USA, yeah? So why not make a contest to arrange some old well known (within their genre) songs into a new and inappropriate style? Metal to Country, Country to Emo/Rock, Pop to Neoclassical? Folk to Death? Seems like a few learning opportunities as well as some good comedy. Really, who wouldn't want to hear Lian or Kris belting out Britney's "Oops, I did it again" in metal vocals? -------------------- ::jafomatic

I would pay to see that! Might be some copyright issues though.. Definitely can't provide tabs and such on GMC, that's true. Could be that GMC just sets the rules and picks a few songs that are extreme examples of their native musical styles and leaves the rest up to the competitors. Ought to be great experience to transcribe the songs ourselves (even if there's some help from tabs we might go find elsewhere), right? And dude, yeah. I would pay to hear that as well -------------------- ::jafomatic
