If you are beginning player, it may be, that you just struck your strings too hard, so it vibrates too much or you just pluck it too fast - or you have bad strings, or bad tuner
 Btw. I use the tuner on my Pod:) Those things are accurate as hell. But to train your ear, I advise you, to just tune one string (using 12th fret harmonic - the note name is the same, since its perfect octave) and then tune the rest of the strings using the 5th fret method (if you dont know what it is, PM me, or just ask here in this thread:) I will answer you specifically) This post has been edited by Jakub Luptovec: Mar 20 2009, 06:54 PM -------------------- my youtube account with riffs and ideas: https://www.youtube.com/user/Phoenygzus

Well its really easy:) Maybe you know the notes on open strings - EADGBE (from lower tone to higher tone) and maybe you also know all the notes A,A#,B,C,C#,D,D#,E,F,F#,G,G#,A,A#....... right 'till the neverend
Now to the method: 1) Choose one of your strings (for this example, you take the lowest sounding, fattest E string) and tune it (for now just open string, dont hold any fret) 2) When it is in tune, play 5th fret (it is usually marked with dot, claw or some other painting. The second with painting, the 3rd fret being the first... say if you dont understand - i dont know what kind of beginner you are )and tune your A string, so that the 5th fret on E string is the exactly same note, as the open A string. 3) apply this to 5th fret on A - open D string, 5th fret on D string - open G string, 4th fret on G string - open b string, 5th fret on B string - open e string 4) if done properly - voilá, you are done:) If you still dont understand, check video from Ivan or Andrew about tuning a guitar or basic steps.. Or just say me and I will record a video for you with more precise explanation  Dont be shy in anyway

Probably the tuner is too sensitive. Don't worry, just tune it so that it is on green light often and it will be OK. Check out my tuning tutorial as well for some tips:

Thanks Ivan, your tuning lessons where some of my first bookmarks here Tuning the guitar before recording, practicing, playing of any kind is important, so yes, you have to prepare the instrument for play every time you take it in your hands. Make a habit of checking the tuning every time before playing, and it will be OK.
