I've always been a big fan of the Harmonica as it's used in rock music and I've been thinking about getting into learning how to play it. I was wondering what kind to buy and how hard it is to learn? Think I should buy a DVD that teaches the basics? I'm not good enough to listen to a song yet and then translate that to the instrument that I'm trying to play and I think trying to learn the harmonica out of a book might be kind of difficult for me. lol.
All advice will be appreciated.
Hmm I would have bought a regular blues harmonica.
It's ALOT harder to learn than it looks. Learning how to bend is very difficult. The best way I can think of on how to explain how to bend is: It's like drinking a thick milkshake with a straw.
Try it a thousand times and you'll get it right eventually
One thing that is good to know if you wanna play blues/rock is that if you're playing to a blues/rock song that is in for example the key of C, then you can't play a C harmonica. You'll need to use a F harmonica. It's because a harmonica is just like a major scale, so if you wanna play minor pentatonic you need to use a different key harmonica.
C = F harmonica
D = G harmonica
E = A harmonica
F = Bb harmonica
G = C harmonica
A = D harmonica
Usually the root note is in 1st blow hole and 4th blow etc
but if you wanna play to a song that is for example in the key of C, then you need to use a F harmonica, and 3rd blow hole will be the root note( C ).
Hope it helps, and to anyone that finds mistakes, please correct me
gosh i wish i didnt click on this thread, now i am totally confused lol
all i can say is...... joe satriani can play harmonica
Well I wanted to play a bit of Harmonica like you so I just ended up getting a Honer International Bluesband harmonica. Then I went online and did a little research and found some good sites with free lessons. I am not very good but like anything else practice, practice, practice.
