So I own this "Planet Waves" brand guitar strap with a plastic buckle that goes around the little knobs on my strat, and while I was playing today the thing the completely snapped wright wear it connects to the upper part of the guitar.
I wasn't even doint anything crazy, I was actually just leaning forward to look at a tab, and BAM!
Luck was on my side, as I was able to grab the neck before it hit the ground. (it would have hit a conrete floor)
Just a warning to anyone that might own this obscure brand of strap.
also, anyone got any tips for when I go to get a new one?????? lol
Just needed to vent my frustration
-Chris
i'm glad the quitar is ok
in case when be your quitar fall down and broke and in case if you quitar was cost thousands dolars..somebody will be afraid of you and probaly somebody from Planet Waves
That's why I ONLY use high quality leather straps...same experiences here with cheap straps
My first (good) guitar is all beaten own partly because of the strap (or was it just me...). I have a Jackson King V and both horns are pretty banged up. It still plays and looks good but I would have really liked it if those chips never got there.
Use straplocks and quality straps (it is good for your shoulders too)
This have happened to me to....two times. but now i got a leather strap and it is a lot better and totally worth the money
Lesson learned, always play standing on a soft carpet.
Get a broad lether strap. It also helps balancing the weight since it doesn't slide.
yes this has happened to me only I did drop the guitar on the floor I had a rather nice Jackson Custom Dinky at the time that was totally ruined! damaged the fretboard etc, I got it reparied bit it never played the same to me, I sold it soon after
straplocks are the way to go for sure!
I hear you man, the original strap that came with my stratocaster was "made in china" . During a pause on one TV show the strap brake on the leather part that holds to the lock, and I even had strap lock on!
I now use a decent quality strap that is better than that (prooved to last till now ). And planning to buy a leather Fender strat and reinforce it when I get the money
Ouch! Good to hear it all ended well! I'll stay away from those straps
i can say this is a guitar accident .nice to hear thats your strato is ok be more carefully
and always check your strap
Good quality strap is a must have, as well as good quality cables..
I had SAME experience like 5-6 years ago!!
Planet Waves strap with strap lock tho.
But I did jump a little so it's on me
hehe, I fixed my straps so I cannot remove them ah, and I use 2 straps in each guitar... why ?? the reason is because I do the "hellycopter"... well I don't know hao you call it... just check this old video with my old band:

(I'm the boy on the right...)
I remember that Kris made a lesson on how to use guitar straps. See Part 1
http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/misc-lessons/happy-new-year-gmc-2008/
i remember this happened to me about a year ago, i was just playing and bam the strap fell off on one end and then the next thing i knew the guitar dropt and smashed my toe. now i use straplocks.
I got this one http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_guitarstrap_suede_black.htm
and with some straplocks your guitar should be pretty safe
Thanks for the replies guys, I don't even know what strap locks are.... I just looked them up and it looks like it just reinforces the connection between the strap and the body of the guitar??
btw I don't think I'll be ordering anything online, I need to go out tomorrow and get one, I hate being without a strap... thats the one thing I've figured out over the past 24 hours
