GMC Forum _ GEAR & PRODUCTION _ Acoustic / Electric Or Both

What do you play?

And I mean, really play.

I'd define "play" as taking up 33% or more of your total playing time.

Acoustic?

Electric?

Or Both?

Electric for me. I play my acoustic from time to time though.

Haha i have the same problem with my acoustic... But i play probably both equally. It's just something about the acoustic sound that makes me feel good.

Electric. It would be both if I had a nice full sized acoustic, but probably about a 2 to 1 ratio in favor of the electric still.

Electric. Acoustic takes up about 15-20% of my time, so I think that I really play acoustic aswell, but apparently that's not enough for you laugh.gif

There was a time when I practiced all (sweeping, string skipping, even tapping) on the acoustic (the one that you've seen in the Erik Mongrain lesson).
Now I play both, love acoustic and electric biggrin.gif

It's both for me basically. I mess around with my nylon string every day and devote at least a 1 h session for finger picking and learning GMC flamenco lessons! smile.gif

Electric for me.
I dont think i have more than 5 hours combined play-time on an acoustic guitar of any sort over the past 20 years smile.gif

I like both worlds, but if I had to choose, I would choose the electric mistress not the acoustic mistress cool.gif

electric only.... I only own one guitar and its an electric, i wouldnt mind having a 12 string acoustic someday

Electric, acoustic is at my girlfriend hehe so cant play on it tongue.gif

Posted by: fatb0t Feb 10 2009, 02:42 PM

I have an acoustic but I reallllly REALLY neglect her. I rarely play it other than in the summer at the beach or something.
I feel so guilty when I pick it up too because the strings are all dingy and old sad.gif
Then I try to play her and it sounds like crap, so I just put her down and don't touch her again for a few months even though I have a brand new pack of strings sitting there waiting hahahah

Both, and actually acoustic started taking leadership lately.

Electric for me i like acoustic sound but i don't like to play on them because they are so freaking huge especially dreadnaught models.

Posted by: Smells Feb 10 2009, 03:57 PM

Electric only for me here, never owned an acoustic, my brother has one at his house that i`ll have a strum on when I`m there but thats all smile.gif

I enjoy playing acoustic guitar more than electric guitar to be honest and that is when I play guitar at all. Haven't played in ages and need to learn Carry On Wayward Son by Kansas laugh.gif

Definitely both, acoustic and electric guitars inspire me differently smile.gif

Posted by: Hammerhead Feb 10 2009, 04:30 PM

I love the electric! but I also have a 20 year old acoustic 12 string... its a whole different thing, but great also. There is an expression about one is my wife, but the other is my mistress... cool.gif

Posted by: Velvet Roger Feb 10 2009, 04:42 PM

Primarily electric for me, only when there is no power I switch to accoustic smile.gif

Posted by: Bogdan Radovic Feb 11 2009, 01:14 AM

Electric for now but I would love to get an acoustic bass !! smile.gif

I also play both, because I like to sing, and classic guitar is more fit for that:)

Posted by: Dejan Farkas Feb 12 2009, 11:51 AM

Both, or better to say all three: Acoustic, Classical and Electric, depending on my mood and which guitar is closer to me in that moment biggrin.gif
