Thank you for your interest. I started playing 47 years ago. Ever since then I have been playing by ear and picking up what I can. I have not been in a band or jammed with any one, in a longtime. I am not scared of playing in front people, I have done it several times. Guitar is part of who I am. I know almost no music theory, but last 3 years I have tried, still don't get it. I have studied Tai chi for 16 years so I know how to discipline myself, I am ready to take my guitar playing to the next level and beyond. My number one musical goal is, always to play and sound musical(whatever that means ?). My goals moving forward is to learn how to make music, to improve my theory skills, to become a more fluid player, with the skills and ability to play anywhere on the guitar neck. I am not a shredder and do not care to shred, but want to play gracefully, controlled, and with purpose. Speed does not hurt, but is not my main goal. I want to learn modern fusion ( jazz, rock, world music) whatever combination is needed to make that style of music. I just need guidance and direction. Thanks again for your interest.

Very cool, I can identify with many aspects of your background and I think it would be a good idea for me to be your mentor 🤗

The missing piece of the puzzle - is an example of your playing. This will allow me to start designing a plan/strategy for you.

Perhaps you can link to a youtube video (or soundcloud audio etc) so I can get an impression of your playing and level?

Hello mate,

I just want to say, and I've said this to Todd myself, don't let the name "Shred Bootcamp" put you off just because you don't want to shred. I think the name of the bootcamp puts many people off because they "don't want to be a shredder". It should be called something like "Precision Bootcamp" because that's what is it about, much more so than shredding.

The Shred Bootcamp run by Todd will help you to "play gracefully, controlled, and with purpose" as you stated you wanted to do.

Give it a try, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Cheers

Thanks again for your willingness to help me. I have not animosity towards any type of playing strategy. I know shredding is not all about speed, but it seems like some people put a high regard in speed. I remember when shredding was not even a term used to describe a fast player. I have been over the years a guitar hobbyist more than a serious player. Playing for a while then not playing for a while. I have a youtube channel Guitarzwailn where I have some videos, none of those videos show me playing and are not my best playing, but the videos were put out for content. I use youtube as a tool to push me to keep playing and to hopefully someday to help others. I will put out some videos of me playing but am not very secure in my soloing abilities. I am not scared of what people will think, I am not very good at it. Thanks again

Very cool channel mate - and great showcase of your playing - as there was both lead and rhythm guitar.

I especially liked the giveaway video, what guitar is this?

I think this offers us a great starting point. I would suggest one of these two strategies to start this off:

1) I design a path based on what I consider to be the 'lowest hanging fruit' for you. This is likely to give you fastest progress but might lead you to practicing methods that are new to you and could feel strange / uncomfortable. For example, we might focus on bending/vibrato, tone tweaking etc

2) you get to work on the aspects/techniques you choose. This might not change your playing as quickly - but might mach your expectations better as to how your practice sessions will be.

Looking forward to hear what you think about this!

Ok excellent! The more we can see of your playing the better we are going to be able to help you!

You can do as Todd suggested to paste video, but the simplest method might be to simply grab the "embed" code from Youtube which you can paste right into a forum post here. (it then automatically becomes and embedded video).

By the way that's a really cool guitar 🤩👌

Thanks again for all your help. I watched how to embed a video on youtube. what size should I send ? I clicked on "more options" at the bottom of this reply page. Can just send a video off my computer onto this page, where it says " choose file -- upload ? " wouldn't that be a lot easer. In your last reply you commented on the guitar I am playing, it is a Music Man Luke lll. Ya, it's nice, plays great, but I need to work harder at my guitar skills to fully utilize the potential of that guitar, I am lucky to have it. With your help I will get better at playing music. Thanks again

Video files are huge and if you upload them directly, nobody can play them without downloading them first. It's very clunky way of doing things so it's generally best avoided if at all possible.

Once you get used to uploading to youtube, it's really quite simple and handy. Also, it allows you to keep a record of your progress. You can make a playlist of just your playing vids so you can see how your coming along.

Once it's uploaded on youtube, you just paste the embed code here. Then anyone can stream it without having to download a huge files. Here is an example

Very cool, and that's a lovely guitar!

It sounds like you are ready to start boosting your musicality 😎

I have opened a mentor thread for you here. As Todd said, the absolute best option is to simply share the youtube link - we don't want to upload large video files to the forum.

If you are looking for more shred oriented mentoring Todd will be able to help you out. You could even do two parallel mentor threads but I think this would be a bit confusing and overwhelming in the beginning. So I suggest we discuss this further down the road if we feel there is a need.
