Quick and dirty vid of various amps that are REALLY PRICEY. I was impressed big time by the FRIEDMAN as it managed to sound heavy without being overly compressed. Everyone has different ears though I was dissapointed in the DIEZEL which was a shock as I expected to LOVE it after hearing folks sings it's praises.
IT's really not that easy it seems to built a high gain amp that doesn't sound squished or fizzy. I'm finding that using a lower gain amp or lower gain channel on a higher gain amp and boosting it tends to keep more definition in the articulation of the guitar sound rather than going for the high gain channel.
Same thing is holding true for me on amp sims as well
I'm not a Marshall tone person what so ever. But that Friedman seemed huge in sound!
I've actually been lucky, I got to try a Diezel Herbert once, it sounded better than what the video portrays of the VH4, but for that price I wasn't impressed at all. Hearing that VH4 makes me cringe, my KPA has better profiles of it!
I went back and watched part one. I wasn't impressed by the Mesa stuff they had, which is odd because I am a huge fan. Actually thinking of buying an OD from them. Just not sure which is a better choice between the Grid Slammer and the Full Throttle.
I say we redo the video and toss a good OD up front and see how that goes!
Great job on this video. To be honest in my opinion Diezel had a 90's metal mix ready tone i like - at least on Your demo Most of other amps were a bit more pushed out with low mids. I know that today we have a bit different "mixing school" of modern metal where guitar are much more mid-focused than before but i still like those old school metal tones where guitar sound a bit more flat
I hear ya!! I"ve never been a "Marshall Guy" or an "Amp Guy" but WOW that FRIEDMAN just sounded so darn BIG!!! Not squished, not fizzy, not mushed. I have been hearing folks gush over them and was like "meh, it's a Marshall clone, so what?" I was flat out wrong. It's a Marshall clone but wow did they make it HEAVY and HUGE!!!
I second your idea on making a better vid!! I Think you should compare your KPA with your BOOGIES!!!! SHOOTOUT!!!
As for overdrive, I'd say get the THROTTLE BOX with eq, overdrive from Boogie. IT's just brilliant. So many options, from clean boost/eq all the way to crazy gain.

Here is another friedman be100 demo with PHIL X. The amp is very articulate. They have managed to have pretty high gain without all the FLUB and BOOM you usually get with high gain tube amps. Usually folks have to put a tube screamer or something else to "tighten" up the sound. The Friedman is tight without preprocessing which is darn amazing and proof that other vendors don't have to make flubby sounding amps, they just do it because they always have done it that way.
The BOGNER XTC sim in my 11 rack is very close to the Friedman which is probably why I like that patch so much. But it's flubbier and needs pre processing.
I hope they make a good but affordable plugin/sim for the Friedman soon (they already have one that works with the UAD hardware but that's just a bit pricey imho)
