GMC Forum _ CHILL OUT _ Tomorrow Is My First Gig...

Posted by: Skalde Jun 8 2009, 08:16 PM

...and I am nervous as hell.

We are going to play a concert in our school, since we have finished our school career. It is common that pupbils of the final grade organize a concert. We formed a band for this occasion. Noone of us has ever played in a band before biggrin.gif Problem is, there will be a lot of people around(about ~700) and we have hardly practised enough.
If I can, I will post some pictures or perhaps a video tomorrow.

Wish me luck wink.gif

Be relaxed and self-confident. The first gig is always difficult. You won´t be afrais anymore when you played some concerts.

Good luck!

+1! smile.gif

Move on stage, smile for girls, get in contact with the crowd, and just stay focused on the songs. Try not to tune on loud on stage and don't play anything between the songs. It will be OK! Have fun! smile.gif

Hey Gusys, I am back.

All in all it was an amazing experience to play in front of so many people.
We played 2 songs, The first one went pretty well, acutally I am pleased with our performance We didn't have any big mess ups... and the crowd was screaming biggrin.gif I am sure they enjoyed it as we did.
The second song didn't went so well, our drummer made some mistakes. We got nervous and performed rather bad. In Addition the sound on stage was poor. I could neither hear the second guitar nor the bassguitar. Nevertheless, it was an amazing experience. I am going to recieve a Dvd with photos and a video soon. If it not to embarrassing I will upload them as soon as I can. laugh.gif
I can say one thing for sure, This won't be our last concert wink.gif

Glad you survived! laugh.gif

Just kidding, of course! Congrats!
Mistakes happen at a lot of first gigs. "Learn by living," is the best motto that comes to mind ^^

Good luck smile.gif - one song at a time.

I uploaded a video of our first gig.

Due to these silly hats I couldn't see a thing cool.gif

I like it biggrin.gif BUt the singer sounds wierd to my ears. Don't find a connection to his voice sounds like he is trying to imitate someone (Maybe Hetfield) in a funny way.

Where is a video from the Edguy song wink.gif

I think you should get a new singer rolleyes.gif .

Posted by: Marek Rojewski Jun 29 2009, 03:38 PM

The singer don't know how to breath properly, You can notice it by the way he is ending every "sentence". Maybe if singing higher he could do it better, but low singing in that way is a 100% way of singing bad. So my advice change a singer or send this one for some teaching...

The Edguy song is so one we messed up sad.gif
But I can upload it if you wanna see it.

The voice of the singer might sound a bit off, but you have to take into consideration that it was the first time he was singing. We were lucky to find someone who had the guts to perform in front of so many people. wink.gif

Sounded nice to me.

Posted by: Berglmir Jun 29 2009, 08:23 PM

I LOVE "Whiskey in the jar" (Metallica AND Thin Lizzy Version) - not an easy song to cover but you did very very well and I think it´s a great sign of approval that you can hear the audience enjoying themselves when you started to play your solo!
Thorben (singer) on the other hand butchered the song wink.gif
Please tell him you can be cool AND don´t have to have a voice like Till Lindemann (singer of Rammstein) biggrin.gif

Great job and congratulations to you all!

Posted by: tonymiro Jun 29 2009, 08:33 PM

For a first performance I think you did well particularly as you were having problems with the monitoring smile.gif. I think you'll probably be more critical of your performance than the audience generally. They looked like they enjoyed themselves so gratz cool.gif smile.gif.

Please post the Edguy Song too. I would like to hear it even when it's messed up.
