Playthrough Of One Of My Tracks, Hammer of Hephaistos

The guitar is tuned to drop D, mainly because that's the way I recorded the riff. When I recorded the lead parts for the album I was in standard tuning but only used the low E string once so it was no problem to play the whole thing through using Drop D anyway From 0:47-0:49 there's a picking run that I discussed on my last video chat which uses legato and alternate picking together. This sort of idea was inspired by Jason Becker. There's some 'outside' sounding ideas in this track too.. I didn't approach it using theory though, just trial and error with what sounded good to me. For that ascending picking run at 3:09 I'm using groups of 7 and shifting it up through the D Minor scale. You are at GuitarMasterClass.net Don't miss today's free lick.
