I think you got it confused. Were listing Films that revolve around music. Not music documentary or live acts.

He's including both in his list.

And I have to agree that The Commitments is amazing.

I hate musicals with a passion, although I'm sure there are a lot of music "related" movies that are good.

Just watched 'Contact' the bio pic about Ian Curtis, the late singer with Joy Division. Great film whether you like the group or not - excellent acting.

I'd also recommend 'Bird' - another bio pic but this is about Charlie Parker, and 'Some kind of monster' the documentary about Metallica.

Once is a really nice move. I love the soundtrack as well. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0907657/

I know most of these have been mentioned before but my favourites include:-
The Wall
The Commitments (I did some songwriting with Andy Strong, the singer, shortly after the film was released.)
The Blues Brothers
This is Spinal Tap
Walk the Line
Great Balls of Fire
The Rocky Horror Picture Show
The Doors (Val Kilmer was superb in this!)
Crossroads

For soundtracks you could do a lot worse than:-
Paris Texas
Southern Comfort

Posted by: Fsgdjv Jan 18 2009, 02:11 PM

Also Control about Ian Curtis is cool.

The Pianist is a very moving and sad film, but beautiful in many ways as well. It really is a must watch movie.
