Hey again!
This is your very personal thread! We'll use it to communicate and work together on your development as a guitarist and musician.
For starters, how about learning and recording these lessons? We'll discuss over each recording and see how it goes Please use the provided backing tracks - let me know if you have difficulties in finding it

These should build a strong base for more complex things to come!
Cosmin
Hey mate - I listened to your recording - not bad at all. The tone needs some more work and you should practice a little bit more at a slower tempo. You have a tendency to rush at some moments. Tell me, what amp are you using to record?
Hey mate, I listened to your takes and here are my suggestions:
1) BC 22 - please try to even your attack on the notes I noticed that you accentuate the first note in almost every phrase way too much in comparison with the rest of the notes. Can you please re-record having this in mind?
2) BC 23 - I would suggest trying to slow this one down and practice at a slow tempo until you can set the following things straight:
- the same thing with the accentuated notes as in BC 22
- Let the notes ring after picking them - they sound too dry because you are not letting them ring enough
- At second 0:32 you should practice slowly until you manage to play that phrase clean and in good timing.
- When you can play this piece perfectly at a slow tempo, gradually work your way up to reach the full tempo, k?
3) BC 27 - you should work some more on your tone and timing - it's ok in general but it could be a bit tighter in some spots. Also, watch out for the little mistake at 0:44 More slow practice should solve these issues, ok?
4) BC 29 - your guitar seems out of tune... Can you please re-record this one after tuning your guitar and also, trying to have a good timing? It sounds like in some places, the timing can be improved. Have you tried to play it all at a slow tempo and then working your way up to the full tempo? You can always record against the original recording and see that you fit perfectly over it That will always tell you how close you are.
Looking forward to hearing the improved takes!
Cosmin
Thanks
Hehe! That's it mate Let's write here, ok?
I see
Hey mate, well, when you have the new recordings, please post them here and we will make the proper adjustments, ok?
Hi,Cosmin.
I tried to improve.
I recorded it before my work.
Today I will post others.

Paul
I would like to go ahead and add a new lesson.
I think I can train and improve the first lesson with a new one.
Cosmin.
I tried to take into account your remarks about muting in BC 29.

Hey man First thing, since I remember you telling me that you like Breakin Benjamin, let's go for this one: http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Breaking-Benjamin-Style/
Unfortunately, I think that the archive is corrupt, because I can't extract the files Can you please upload them again?
Thank you!
Cosmin
Hi,Cosmin.
Yes, I like Breaking Benjamin.
This is the band which I like to hear every song.
I like many others but Breaking Benjamin is different for me.
I upload the archive again. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/3xxqri6ae3hv5q7/gXUp9ztkhT
Thank you
Hi,Cosmin.
I recorded my Benjamin lesson .
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/3ot8gwwbpses8jb/K-wNG_0npb
This is a very raw performance.
It is was my first experience to play and record.
It is a new skill for me but it is so amazing.
Time will make my performance better.
I want it.
And I constantly thank you for opening a new world for me.
Hey man! I am glad to hear I can be of help
Listen, let's try the following - can you record each track separately? There are a lot of things that need your focus and practicing them slow, would bring out a lot. So:
- please post one track for each part at 75% of the original speed, oK?
Cosmin
I see
Hi,again.
Today is a weekend and I can spend a lot of time for training.
So, I recorded my lessons tracks.
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/3pk8c5tann5wplz/xjXixNy4I6
Hey man!
Check this out:
Track 1 - the arpeggio theme behind the chorus riff - it is ok, but you should play it in such a way so that the notes don't sound separated - that means don't lift your fingers when possible, letting the notes intertwine.
Track 2 - the timing is good but there are some notes in there that sound really weird - like the guitar is out of tune, maybe?
Track 3 - watch out for the timing at the end and the right hand pattern - it goes 1 2 3, 1 2 3, 1 2 (count that in your head and then change to the next position) - focus on this right hand pattern, by watching the right hand angle in the slow videos ok?
Track 4 - I have listened to all the takes - you have issues where you have to shift from one position to the other (around 0:4 - 0:5 and at 0:9 - the faster part)
My advice is to take care when tuning the guitar and when positioning your fingers in any position, make sure the fingers don't stray - I have the impression that your fingers are straying sometimes and that's why some notes sound a bit out of tune.
Focus on all these details at a slow tempo and you will make a great job!
Looking forward to hear the improved version, aye?
Cosmin
Good evening, Cosmin.
I just have spoken with my friend Chris in England.
He said the weather was rainy and he was a little melancholy.
I said that music could change the weather inside.
I think it is a mathematic for soul.(I do not remember who said that but I agree)
Well,I tried to take into account your remarks about the tracks and recorded new tracks.
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/22oymaihyzek2lz/byw-sUS2IM
Hey there man - indeed it is! I always like to say that about music
I heard improvements in the new tracks - for instance the tone in track 4 - the clean one, is very good!
You need to spend more time on this piece to get it flowing - your timing is good overall, but your playing is still a bit rigid, thing which is especially easy to observe in the riff part, when you shift between positions in general.
Practice this lesson constantly, trying to emulate the feeling that I gave it in the original recording - notice how everything sounds tied together and not dispersed?
This will not happen over night, so give yourself time and patience, while focusing on these aspects, ok?
Hi,Cosmin.
Don't think that I am rushing.
I guess I charmed by music.
I spend all my free time playing the guitar.
I remember that I have to be more patient.
Hey mate!
The beginning sounds better already and also, the riff is more fluid, but around 0:24, 0:32 there is something in the recording that sounds out of tune and around 0:34 you did not respect the original recording formula.
Slowly but surely, you will get to the bottom of this piece! Would you like to start working on something else in parallel as well? In the same direction - easier riffs/modern rock-metal vibe?
Hi,Cosmin.
I have heard,thanks.
I will correct.
Also I think I have a little problem with my guitar.
This is my first guitar and it is a cheap Ibanes made in China or Korea.I always have to tune it.
And also strings touch frets on the different positions, I hear a jingling sound sometimes.
I am going to buy a more durable guitar but it will happen in a couple months.
I would like ESP Horizon NT II.
About starting working on something else I am ready with a pleasure.
I think it will improve my technics.
My fingers have not enough speed I need to develop it also.
Good evening,Cosmin.
Me friend decided to start play the guitar.
He is 44 years old and he has never played a guitar. He asked me to sell my Ibanez and I did it.
Unfortunately I could not find ESP in Russia.
Dealers said that they can book it to me and sell only in December.
So I could only find Gibson Less Paul. It is a simple and not expensive model but the sound is much better.
Also I can tune my guitar very quickly now because it has no FR system.
I was a little upset that I could not buy ESP Horizon NT II.
I hope it will come in the future.May be I will find it on Ebay or anywhere?
I decided to increase the speed of my fingers playing solo of Whispers in the Dark by Skillet.
I found the TABs on songsterr.com and learnt solo in a very slow temp.
I can play it with a metronome on speed 55.
Hey buddy, too bad it's so difficult to get that ESP there I think that the Gibson is a great guitar, but do not hurry to buy anything until you first test it, ok?
Now about that solo, please post a recording if you have already started working on it and then we'll choose another lesson, ok? I am curious to see how you interpret this solo, as Skillet happens to be a favorite band of mine
Hi,Cosmin.
It is so great(about Skillet)
This is the first figure of the solo.
and all solo in a very slow temp
and this is what I could record and stopped by a solo
Hey again mate - the timing is good, out of what I can hear - towards the end you are messing things a tiny bit. Now the important aspect here, would be to focus on making things sound fluid - the way it sounds now, is making the notes sound a bit separated and rigid. You should focus on making them sound tied together, thus giving the phrase a flow. Post another take after you learn some more of it and focus on this aspect, because it is the most important thing that you should work on at this moment, from what I can hear in your playing as an ensemble. Deal?
OK
Great, man! Looking forward to it!
Hi,Cosmin.
When I was 15 years old Metallica was my favorite band.
There are many their songs which I like.
I would like to learn some of them : Nothing else metter,Unforgiven and others.
Can you help me with this in parallel?
Or do you think that it is very early for me?
and today the solo is a little faster
I found ESP.
My friend in Ukrain sold me.
I will be in Kiev in June,20 and get it.
I am very glad.
This is it:
Hi,Cosmin.
I would like to ask you about scales.
In theory I understand a little.
Have I learn scales?
If I play in standart tune it will different in drop and others.
But I think that I have to determine C maj from D maj
by hear for example.
I have learnt E-min in the standart tune from 1 to 22 fret
What do think about it?
All right.
Your opinion is very important for me that is why I posted my ideas.
I will be waiting your tasks.
Once I get back home, I'll take care of the vid for ya mate! No worries, we'll sort everything out, ok?
OK, thanks
Hey buddy, here ya go
Hi,Cosmin.
Thank you so much.
I am working now but in the evening I will try.
It is so amazing
It will only get better Looking forward to read your impressions, my friend!
I would like to ask.
If I begin D maj it will begin from 10 fret.
Have I to tune the guitar on B or drop D?
Then I can D maj from 3 fret
I could not stop and wrote down(in my office I have no a guitar)
C maj 8-10-12, 8-10-12, 9-10-12, 9-10-12, 10-12-13, 10-12-13
G maj 3-5-7, 3-5-7, 4-5-7, 4-5-7, 5-7-8, 5-7-8
D maj 10-12-14,10-12-14, 11-12-14,11-12-14, 12-14-15, 12-14-15
They are in the same configuration.....
but the different is only the number of the first fret...
In the evening I will play and write my impressions
Well,I came home and did it.
Is that right?
So.
In C maj all notes a playing without a shifting."C-D-E-F-G-A-B"
in G maj - F is shifted in a half tone.
and D maj - two notes are shifted in a half tone : F and C.
And it makes a little different shade or tinge.
I was playing without shifting and with it.
But for playing it is the same figures(I saw this when wrote down in my office)
And it makes easier to remember how to play them.
It is nice
if I will play :
1-3-5,1-3-5,2-3-5,2-3-5,3-5-6,3-5-6
it will be F - major?(One note is shifted -Bb)
It is the same figure too but from the 1 fret?
Unbelievable.....
I can't stop.
5-7-9,5-7-9,6-7-9,6-7-9,7-9-10,7-9-10 is A major.
There are three shifted notes(C,F,G)
is that right?
I can suppose that from open E in the same figures will be E major
So that all notes from the 6(th) string in that figure forms:
E maj - shifted notes(C#D#F#G#)
F maj - shifted notes(Bb)
G maj - shifted notes(F#)
A maj - shifted notes(C#F#G#)
B maj - shifted notes(C#D#F#G#A#)
C maj - no shifted notes
D maj - shifted notes(C#F#)
Hi,Cosmin.
I saw one more thing(I will try to explain in English.I am not sure that it will correct in English)
So, for example the note A.
It is on the 6-th string on the 5-th fret.
The same note will in a string and in a fret (half tone)but it will in a higher octave 4-th string 7-th fret.
And the third time it will in two higher octave from the key not.So that it will be in a string higher and in two
frets(a tone) from the second A : 10-th fret on the 2-d string.
It looks like some mathematic formula.
next octave = 6-2=4string and number of the key note fret + 2
and one more octave = 4-2 =2 and number of key note fret +5(2+3:2 octave +3 octave)
I will take a vacation from next monday and can spend a lot of time for the guitar.
Hi,Cosmin.
you said I can play a scale from any string.
I tried to do that.
The figure was changed a little.
But I saw a new feature.
If I play any note on 6-th and-5th strings the same note but on a higher octave
will be via a string via a fret.
But if play on 4-th and 3-d strings the same note higher octave will be via sting and via 2 frets.
That is why the figure is changed.
For example:
G is on the 6-th string 3-d fret > 4-th string 5-th fret(3+2) > 2-d string 8-th fret(5+3)
B is on the 5-th string 2-d fret > 3-d string 4-th fret > 1-st string(4+3) 7-th fret
Sorry for my broken English.
I am playing your task.
If I think right 3-d,6-th and 7-th notes are changing the sound of all picture.
Howdy bro Check this out:
Hi,Cosmin.
Thank you for the movie.
So,I tried to do the exercise.
It sounds like something familiar but I can't remember.
It seems a melody.
May be it is just a nice and simple melody.
If I think right scales with my ear for music improvement will increase the speed of my fingers.
But it demand a lot of time for a practice.
I am very impatient.
I can train all my weekend and all my free time to
go to the next level.
I can't sleep until reach the desired result.
hehe! You have played them melodically - that means one note after the other Very good! Now, I would like to ask you to play each note and its third, as they would be chords, so the note and its root simultaneously.
It will be easier if you do it horizontally - please post the recording and I'll tell you more
Have patience, my friend, and everything will fall into place - don't rush, practice diligently and focused, deal?
Cosmin
Yes, it is funny.
Well, today in the evening will be done.
If I understood right it should sound like this :
Bingo - that's exactly what I wanted! A little movie is on your way and a few additional tasks I love working with you man - you are doing everything I am telling you without ever having it done before
Me too.
It is because I feel your energy and I do everything with a pleasure.
It is great.
I think I can give you my energy through my performances because you put it in me in my hands
and I return it that way.
I am very grateful.
And I always wait your new tasks.
Hehe! Your thoughts always make me smile mate!
Check this out:
Hi,Cosmin.
I tried to play triads.
I would like to ask you.
(BDF) is not convenient for
playing from 5-th string.
Can I play from 4-th?
Or is it important to play from 5-th?
Hi,Cosmin.
I have understood.
If I play C(CEG) there are 2 intervals between C and E and 1,5 between E and G.
The same is G(GBD) and F(FAC)
If I play minor E(EGB),A(ACE) there are 1,5 intervals between E and G(A andC) and 2 between G and B(C and E)
A diminished triads is B(BDF) : 1,5 intervals between B - D and D-F.
I think today in the evening I will record the exercise in appropriate temp.
I have a question about speed improvement.
Everyday I play scales and some exercises but my speed is unchanged.
I am a little upset about this.
I try to be patient.
It is hard because my head conceives but my fingers don't accomplish.
Hey there mate
The thing is like this: Between C and E you have a major third and between E and G you have a minor third. But you should think about G in its relationship with C -> C-G is a 5th interval. The same goes between the rest Judge the 5ths in their relationship with the root of the chord they are being played in.
Regarding speed Mate - the first question is, are you working with a metronome?
Cosmin
I got it.
Yes I use a metronome often.
But last couple weeks did not.
I could not suppose that it is so important.
I start playing with a metronome again and the speed of my fingers began an increasing.
Thanks so much.
Hi,Cosmin.
It is done.
It was a little difficult because I never played in the end of the neck.
Hey mate, I will of course come up with a little movie, to get you pumped on the metronome practice a bit, ok? How does that lesson feel - the new one I mean?
Cosmin
I think that there the most important thing of that lesson
was that I learnt all notes on the neck. And I can determine some of them
hearing.
Also I know now that there are 2 triads:major and minor.
I like the way you are leading me.
Thank you very much mate
Here's a little something on speed:
Hi, Cosmin.
Firstly I would like to say that the last night was very interesting in spite of many unknown terms.
My point of view is a little philosophical I always try to feel energy.
You are a very positive man.
I am sure that there are many nice people around you.
It is great.
And I want to say thank you.
Well about the exercise.
I began to do this exercise from speed 60 and up to 150.
I was very careful and played clean.
My right hand can play more speedy but the left don't.
In a high speed my right and left hands are going to play alone.
That is why I stopped at 150.
In the end I feel an effort and fingers stop to play.
I have been doing it two days and today I began to play the solo by Skillet and was surprised because I did it in an appropriate
temp. Not so clean that I can say it is good but much better.
Hey mate, thank you again for your kind thoughts
You see, your highest speed, is truly that one at which both your hands play perfectly synced together and you are relaxed
A recording would help me a lot in seeing how you are faring, so please, once you feel comfy, record and post in our thread!
I am very glad to hear that you are feeling the progress mate, let's push it further, ok?
Cosmin
I did it.
I stopped at 170 because it was not clean enough.
I think that every new difficult thing in ever work I should learn in the same way.
For example this :
Hi,Cosmin.
This is something from my training.
And something like solo
And here is what came out
Hey there my friend!
Regarding the Alter Bridge tune - this happens to be one of my favorite bands Well, the tone is very good! You have to slow down a bit and gain more definition and timing, it's just a matter of patience and focused practice, ok? You're almost there
Regarding the exercise with triplets - the same as above, have patience and focus on going up with the tempo in a manner in which your brain will be tricked - that means, do not increase speed, more than 1-2 units at a time - that way, the brain will not notice the changes and will naturally adapt At this point you are not in perfect sync - I mean, I can feel the left and right hand, not being perfectly aligned. Focus on playing slower and getting the hands in sync at a slow speed - also, small movements will help A LOT!
The Skillet solo has a tempo which doesn't suit you yet, man - don't worry, ok? It'll be there, but first, in order to see if you really understand the phrasing and articulation, please record that solo at 50% of the speed against the metronome, focusing on all the details, get the perfect timing and shapes - do we have a deal?
The riffs are not bad! You need to work a bit more on the timing and play tighter - by that I mean, be more exact and in sync with the drums!
You are trying things which are above your current abilities - exploring is not a bad thing as long as you do not let yourself discouraged You actually have no reason to be worried, because this is the natural flow of things
Try the same thing with the riffs - slow, steady, perfect timing and definition!
Post here and I'm ready to help you
Cosmin
I think if I want to play well I should spend a lot of time for playing the guitar.
I would like to ask you.
I do many different exercises which demand always retune my guitar: standard, drop C,drop B.
Is this a normal situation?
I will get ESP in the end of June and I will have got two different tuning guitars.I think it will be much better.
What do you think if we will continue learning chords?
I am sure that it is very important.
Hi,Cosmin.
I downloaded your songs from itunes.
It is nice,realy.
I liked Journey,Seed,Walking in the dark more then others.
I would like to wish you an inspiration and new different
songs.
And of course many nice people around you.
Life is perfect.
Hey mate! Than you very much!! I am so glad you like our music
Well, regarding your question - if you want to learn stuff which was written in various tunings, it is only normal to tune to those tunings Nothing unusual about it - as soon as you will have two axes, you won't have to change tunings so often on just one guitar.
Regarding chords, yes, it is a very good choice and alongside understanding the relationship between scales/arpeggios and chords, rhythmic development is another important thing!
If you feel like you have mastered the previous lessons we have worked on so far, we can focus on others as well
Let me know!
Cosmin
I think I am ready to go further with a pleasure
Alright, well, I would very much like you to try these two:
http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Major-Minor-Relative-Chords/
http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Rocking-Chords/
They are not that difficult, but they involve rhythm development and chord shapes Exactly what you need right now Focus on timing and clean playing, ok?
Cosmin
Hi,Cosmin.
There is no explanation in this lesson and I would like to ask.
I see G maj scale it is clear.
But I am not sure that I understand what it means:
For any given major key there are seven possible modes:
1) Ionian, starting on the first note (a basic major scale);
2) Dorian, starting on the 2nd note (minor sounding);
3) Phrygian, starting on the 3rd note (minor sounding);
4) Lydian, starting on the 4th note (major sounding);
5) Mixolydian, starting on the 5th note (major sounding);
6) Aeolian, starting on the 6th note (minor sounding);
7) Locrian, starting on the 7th note (diminished sounding)
How should I use this information?
Hey mate! It will be easier if I make a video - stay tuned today, ok?
Ok,thanks
Hi,Cosmin.
I would like to ask.
In one of the lessons I saw the scales, for example C minor.
But in the description was stated that a guitar should be in a drop C tune.
That is why the scale is stated in standard?
Cheers my friend - check this out:
Thank you.
Well,I will try to record a video tomorrow.
See you
Hey mate, please do so
Hi,Cosmin.
I am not ready yet.
It is not so clean to be recorded.
I am doing with a pleasure.
I spent a little time for learning and understanding your explanation of the scales.
If I understood right these modes are always the same but there are two differences :
- when I begin playing the scale from 6-th string in drop tuning string
- when I begin playing from the 3-d string. In this case I should shift the mode on the 2-d string in a half tone.
And I have some thoughts about Lidian, Dorian and others same scales.
For example C Lidian. The scale is the same E minor(F#), but the key note is C.It gives in C major a minor sound.
Something like this.
So I have to remember a major mode which I did and 6 modes(Dorian,Phrygian,Aeolian,Mixolydian,Lidian,Locrian)
Ionian is like a base.
Hehehe - no problem, take your time mate!
Now, you kind of guessed it with the modes You should first know that Ionian - natural major scale
The other modes are as follows:
Dorian - starts on the 2nd note of the natural major scale
Phrygian - starts on the 3rd note of the natural major scale
Lydian - starts on the 4th note of the natural major scale
Mixolydian - starts on the 5th note of the natural major scale
Aeolian - starts on the 6th note of the natural major scale
Locrian - starts on the 7th note of the natural major scale
So let's a try this simple exercise What is the natural major scale from which we deduce G Lydian?
Hi,my pod hd 300 stoped working.
I sent it to service and now I should play into
Ampli tube 3.
I think it will go on 3-5 weeks.
Well,about G scale.
The natural scale is G-A-B-C-D-E-F#-G
Lydian starts on the 4-th note.
for G scale it will be C#.
So: G-A-B-C#-D-E-F#-G
Than for Dorian the 2-d note should be A#.
But on the web site I saw G-A-Bb-C-D-E-F-G.
I would like to understand.
Hehe! Mate - the assumption about G Lydian being G A B C# D E F# G is correct.
But my question was what natural major scale has G Lydian - so that means, G should be the 4th step for a major scale which I want you to find out - ok?
So, it is the 4-th note from D maj
D-E-F# -G - A-B-C#-D.
So G Lydian is like D maj.
One difference is the key note.
It seems a puzzle.
I see that in music everything is a correlation and a causation.
It is interesting.
I feel like a little boy making first steps
Hi,Cosmin.
I am working and I am not ready.
I want to record a clean performance.
If you say I will post my today record but it is not good.
There are many my bad records and I want to make my first nice record, I hope.
Hey mate!
There is no rush If you wish, I would like to hear a recording at 70% of the speed, against the metronome, in which you will focus on timing and clean playing - deal?
Cosmin
Hi,Cosmin.
Unfortunately my pod hd 300 will be ready in two weeks and my computer's Ampli tube makes many background noises.
It doesn't allow to record video.
But it will be all right soon when I get my pod from the service.
I tried to do my homework as good as I can.
I think we can go further.
Hi,Cosmin.
You showed a very interesting way to understand scales.
I got it.
The base scale is C maj.
The 4-th note is F(Lydian) it forms G maj G-A-B-C-D-E-F#-G
The 4-th note from G maj is C,so Lydian G forms Dmaj D-E-F#-G-A-B-C#-D
Lydian D forms Amaj A-B-C#-D-E-F#-G#-A
If I think right Lydian maj scale forms 5-th note maj scale from key note.
For example C maj,5-th note is G,so C Lydian maj forms Gmaj.
Then I can continue.
5-th note from A is E.So A Lydian forms E maj.
4-th note from A is D.So Emaj : E-F#-G#-A-B-C#-D#-E.
5-th note from E is B
4-th note is A.
So E Lydian forms B maj : B-C#-D#-E-F#-G#-A#-B
There are all maj scales here.
Is this right?
Hey man In a way, you are VERY right You have discovered a trick found in the Circle of 5ths! Congratulations
I would like to take some time and explain the circle to you, would you like that? It is a VERY useful tool for applying theory in real contexts
Hi.
I will be waiting with a pleasure.
It is so exciting.I can't explain what I fell.
I like this. It's like a new reality.
About my practice.
I learnt intro solo Fade to Black.
I think I will record this soon.
Hey mate! To begin with, I would like you to take a look over the following notes and tell me your thoughts, ok?
http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?s=&showtopic=39243&view=findpost&p=615043
Follow all the notes starting with November 1st until November 22nd Deal?
Good evening,Cosmin.
Everything is clear.
From C maj
- if we go count every 5-th note forms a new scale and every 7-th adds a sharp.
For example 5-th note from C is G.
And 7th note from G is F.
So G maj scale is G-A-B-C-D-E-F#-G
- if we go countdown every 5-th note forms a new scale and every 5-th adds flat.
For example 5-th note is F and if to countdown from F then 5-th note is B and it adds a flat.
So F maj scale is F-G-A-Bb-C-D-E-F
But F# maj is out from this rule.
And I am not sure about pentatonic formula.
If I think right pentatonic means 5 notes.
So D maj pentatonic is D-A-E-B...?
Or the formula is constant 1-2-3-5-6?
And For D maj the pentatonic scale is D-E-F#-A-B?
Hehe! Top notch mate
The second part is still a bit blurry I see
The major pentatonic scale has the same formula every time - 1 2 3 5 6 and the same goes for the minor pentatonic one 1 b3 4 5 b7
So: D major pentatonic is D E F# A B
In the case of F# major, you probably observed something interesting - we will need E# which usually goes by the name of Db. When we reach this point we can transform the # into b
Knowing that Eb = D#, Ab = G#, Bb = A#, Db = C#, Gb = F# please transform F# major into Gb major and then I'll tell you more
I think I am at an impasse.
I can see that F#=Gb.
I can suppose that there are the same scales. The difference is how to write the name of a key note.
But I don't understand 6 sharp notes.I can name only 5 sharp notes : C#,D#,F#,G#,A#. How can be E#?
And 5 flat notes : Db,Eb,Gb,Ab,Bb.
They are in the same tonality.
To think that way :
C# major=Db major and others.
I don't understand E# and Cb.
Because Cb is B.
E# is F
To think this way Gb maj Gb,Ab,Bb,Cb(how?)Db,Eb,F,Gb.
Gb should be Gb,Ab,Bb,B,Db,Eb,F,Gb But it this case we see Bb and B.
May be that is why B we write like Cb?
And F# :F#,G#,A#,B,C#,D#,F,F# So F and F# and we write F# and E#?
It is a nonsense kind.
My friend, your train of thought is very good!
E# and Cb are simple denominations created in order to respect the individuality of the notes, by using these names, we won't have double notes, such as F and F# or B and Bb - got it? They are just names and they are used because in a major scale you need to have all the notes and no doubles
So, tell me man, are there any other questions on this one?
Hi,Cosmin.
I think somethig is opening.
Well, I would like to go further.
Can we do any exercises to improve my technic?
I told you I like the way you give me to understand music.
Hey man, thank you again for your kind thoughts
Now, the best lesson that will discipline your hand coordination when picking, would be this one:
http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Picking-Hand-Basics/
Please study it and make a recording - focus on picking clean and with movement economy - the less you move your hands, the faster you will play I definitely think that it is good to alternate applied theory with technique exercises, so let's have a go at this one, ok?
Cosmin
Hi,Cosmin.
I am going to do the exercise on the weekend.
I recorded intro solo Fade to Black.I hear my mistakes but I see that the speed of my fingers is growing.
I hope that something will be not bad soon.
I will post the solo by Skillet. It is a little better.
Hey man! Not bad at all! Please focus on the faster lick at about 0:29 You see, you need to build up your technique, but be patient and practice - it'll get there The lesson I suggested in the previous post, is basically the first step to this!
Ok, I will
Great man, looking forward to it!
Hi,Cosmin.
On Tuesday I am going to Kiev.
I will get my guitar there and then I will
go to Krym.
My guitar will be with me and I will be in touch.
I hope I will record my first video soon.
Well, it's my home exercise
Hey mate! You are 95% there - you are playing clean and with good definition and timing. I also like the tone!!
In the part where you are playing triplets, you still have a bit more work to do in order for that 95% to become 100% I would say focus on getting the triplets more equal and after re-recording this one, we can move on!
Great man! I am proud!
Cosmin
Hi.
It's because of you.
Cosmin's school.
Thanks.
I will re-record
Thank you once again man Please do and as usual, I will be happy to assist!
Hi,Cosmin.
I am not sure that it is better
Hey man! It's still a bit shaky - by that I mean that you still need to work on it until you really feel the subdivisions work against the track As an ensemble it is good, but it can be perfected so keep working on it ok?
It needs to match the original recording perfectly!
Now, another one which will help your technique A LOT, is this one: http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Picking-Arpeggios/
Up to the challenge?
Cosmin
Hi,Cosmin.
I am in Kiev finally.
Well, today I will get my guitar.
I have not played the guitar 2 days
I had been driveing my car.
Today is rainy and I am a little melancholic
I want to continue my playing very much.
Man, breaks are totally welcome There are times when you will feel exhausted psychically and instead of enjoying your playing, it'll feel like a chore
Take one day a week, in which you DON"T touch the guitar at all Let me see some pics of the new axe when you have a chance, ok?
Hi,Cosmin.
I will show ofcourse
I have arrived to Krym.
Everything is fine, there is a wi fi connection in my room, I will do my exercise tomorrow.
I have tested my guitar I showed you the photo.
I am so glad because of two reasons:
- my friend began to study playing a guitar
- I got my guitar which I wanted so much.
Well, I am going to sleep and waiting tomorrow.
Hey man! I know how it feels when you have a burning desire to play and there's nothing that can quench your thirst aside from music/guitar
Please send me your latest recordings so that I may see your progress
Cosmin
Hi,Cosmin.
My home exercise is really difficult. I am not ready to play it for you.
But when I decided to rest I recorded one other lesson.
By all means man, I didn't mean to rush you! Whenever you feel ready!
Hi.
The internet connection in my hotel is not speedy
enough. So I will post my records as fast as it can be able.
The exercise is realy cool. The position of left hand fingers is
absolutely unconvenient but it's great.
I got that it allows me to improve my left hand.
Well,I am doing.
I like when something demands a lot of my efforts.
Hey mate - the Sum 41 track sounds good! I think this style suits you and you have managed a very realistic rendition - the only small issues are happening in the portion around 0:33 - it is clear that your picking technique needs work, but no worries mate - you will get there! Slow and steady, ok?
Challenging yourself constantly, but at a realistic pace, is a good way to keep improving - by that, I mean that you shouldn't strive to play difficult things on a short term and become frustrated because you can't make it, but always give yourself a little more to work on, by trying things which are only a tiny bit more difficult than the things you have already mastered. Keep this pace and it will be great!
Hi,Cosmin.
I decided to record my raw playing.
Finally I could play all positions but It is hard for me to change fast the position of left hand, you will hear that in my record.
I hope in a couple days I will play it purely.
It is really a difficult exercise.
I even have a little cramp in the fingers.
I never felt like that.
But today is much better.
Hi,Cosmin.
It is next vers.I have recorded just now.
I think I will play clear soon
Hey there amigo - in terms of timing there is a big difference between the two takes:
- the first one was a bit off and it had missing notes
- the second one has good timing but it has notes that are missing - this should be your main focus now
This is usually happening because you have recorded at a tempo which is too fast for the chord changes to occur smoothly - go back 10 BPM and re-record this, while focusing on not missing any note whatsoever and keeping good timing, ok?
Cosmin
Hi,Cosmin.
It is the first time when I do so long.
Today is a little better.
I stopped to feel a cramp in the fingers.
So I hope I am not far from my aim.
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/bl0fc1953amh8rw/LOU6cYA-Kc
Uh oh, what happened man? Does it hurt bad? You should definitely stop if something hurts, you know..
It seems like you are still missing notes or muffling some of them - as i said before, this is due to the fact that you don't master the chord shifts at this speed Give yourself time and send me a recording at a slower speed with the metronome - let's say 75%, deal? Focus on timing and getting EACH and EVERY note clean and good sounding, please
Hi,Cosmin.
I did something
https://www.dropbox.com/s/nvegvhjpdnhv1vo/arpeggio%20v80%25.wav
https://www.dropbox.com/s/9jezy5esbtf0btt/arpeggio.wav
Hey mate!!
The 80% version rocks, so far! Aside a few unwanted sounds - it has good sound, timing and it is played clean and articulate!
The one against the drums, still needs some work as some of the notes are being choked, but the positive thing is that in comparison with previous takes against the backing, this one is the best so far!! You are 95% there!
I am proud! Tell me, would you like to take the concept a step further? Some more alternate picking arpeggios but in a different context!
Cosmin
Of course I am always ready to follow you.
I like it very much.
Excellent then! How do you feel about this one:
http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Combining-Arpeggios-And-Scales/
Hi,Cosmin.
I remember my first tasks.
I have had spent much less time on their fulfilling.
And I did other exercises in parallel.
But now it is the second exercise on which I spend all time.
It is good because we chose the correct load for me.
You are a very good teacher, I was very lucky to meet you
Thank you for your kindness man Post some recordings and we will go further up the ladder, ok?
Hi,Cosmin.
I recorded several versions in different speeds.
It is not good enough yet.
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ijnxigmrxdyv7p1/3n-aDGRsjd
Hey there mate!
It looks like you got all the right parts, but it seems that the synch is not quite there at the slowest version - please lower the tempo at about 50% and focus on playing as clean and in synch as possible - a movie could help a lot, so I can see your picking technique. Can you do that?
Hi,Cosmin.
I am at the hotel now and I can't record video.
I hope I will be at home on Wednesday and will be able to record it.
But my guitar is always with me so I can train everyday.
I tried to take into account your comments and here is what came out.
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ijnxigmrxdyv7p1/3n-aDGRsjd
Pavel, my friend - it is too fast Please record as I suggested two posts ago and be patient, ok? Here - for a reminder: Please lower the tempo at about 50% and focus on playing as clean and in synch as possible - Deal?
Cosmin
HI,Cosmin.
I am at home finally.
I tried to record the first video in my life.
Unfortunately something doesn't work.
I recorded my video in iMovie, but the background track is inaudible.
I don't know why because I hear it in my headphone.
And that is why I posted my audio version.
I will correct I need just a time to understand how I can record a video.
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ijnxigmrxdyv7p1/3n-aDGRsjd
I got it.
I understood how to record video in iMovie with background track
https://www.dropbox.com/s/jtvbe84i8bc0d75/drop%20d%20arpeggio.mp4
Oh yes! Finally, I get to see what the mechanics behind your playing look like
Mate - I would totally suggest a very important change in your left hand approach - please keep your thumb behind the neck, not over it - it's physics that tell us, that in order for the fretboard fingers to have strength, they need support from the thumb. So please experiment a bit with the thumb behind the neck and feel the strength it will provide for the fretting fingers. And also, practice at a slower tempo and focus on moving your fretting fingers as little as possible away from the fretboard, ok?
Hi,Cosmin.
I tried to keep my thumb behind the neck.
It was a little inconvenient firstly.
I had begun to play very slowly near 50% and than step by step I increased my speed to 80%.
I had played in 100 % speed but I am not sure that these attempts can be seen.
So this is that I did for the present
https://www.dropbox.com/s/8yyed3j4m6t3ggh/drop%20d%20arpeggio%2080%25.m4v
Hi,Cosmin.
I got it, thank you but when I play it is not so easy to control it.
I am sure it will come.
I spent all my weekend to improve my playing.
I have played on a very slow speed many times but I am not
satisfied in my progress.
I think I have to spend more time for playing.
Anyway today I still can only on this.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/stjqapmm96phrys/drop%20d%20arpeggio%2090.m4v
Hey there amigo!
Much better - left hand stance problemmo solved!
Now, you should be focusing on synchronization - work slow and focus on playing each note as clean as possible and observing how your hands - left and right - are in synch - deal? You need time to adjust to the stance change that happened with your left hand and also, please move your right hand less, as well as your left hand. Speed comes along as you learn how to minimize your movements - deal?
Cosmin
Hi,Cosmin.
The last two days I moved to a new apartment.
It was a little hard.
But now I have a place for training.
Eventually I will make here repair and it will be my Home Stodio I hope.
Anyway I didn't forget to find a time for training.
This is my next attempt.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/3vrkdhttd5q7vs5/Drop%20D%20arpeggio%2095%25%20.m4v
Hey Pavel! You are living in a loft now, how cool - me too!
Mate, while looking at your videos I have discovered yet another thing your right hand and arm are being hindered by the fact that you hold your guitar on your right foot - would you please record your next video while holding your guitar on your left foot?
Timing is better now, but you are still choking notes due to the fact that your hands are out of synch - the speed is still too much at this point. But if you switch on the other foot, your right hand will thank you
Hi,Cosmin.
Yes,I like to live in a loft and now I can play without headphone
but I have no an AMP for the present.
Well,about my playing.
I saw that many people hold a guitar on the right foot.
And you too.
I tried to hold the guitar on the left foot
and I think that it is more convenient.
I hope tomorrow I will record on 100 % speed.
Hi,Cosmin.
This is my today attempt.
The guitar is on the left foot as you say.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/htxz7osd7ynvfgt/drop%20d%20arpeggio.m4v
Hey again man! For me, it's a contextual thing - there are two possibilities here:
1) If I sing and play, I will usually hold the guitar as you do, on the right foot - it enables me to see the neck better and hold my head forward to sing into the microphone. Or, If I perform simpler things, it is more relaxing
2) When I perform things that are far more complicated, I will always, without any exception, hold my guitar on the left foot in the classical position.
I strongly suggest that you try the left foot approach - your hands will thank you
Thank you for your explanation.
I will follow it always.
About a new exercise,it is a good
idea,with a pleasure.
Especially since I'm a little upset due to the fact that
I can not afford this exercise.
Hey man, take it easy, no frustrations, ok? When I gave you this exercise, I did it because I wanted you to get acquainted with the concept - I was not expecting you to play it at full speed on such a short notice, so no worries ok? Keep working on it at a slower speed and it will get there in time, I promise.
In the mean time, how about this one?
http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Inside-Outside-Picking/
Hi,Cosmin.
I trust you and know you are a Master of music.
And more than that you are a very good teacher.
Not every professional can teach. Ability to teach is a gift.
I tried the last exercise. It looks simple, but only at the first sight.
I will sharpen.
Thanks for your nice thoughts once again, man!
As long as you don't rush headlong into anything, you will always have the right attitude and prepare yourself properly. I am looking forward to a first recording Keep in mind everything I have suggested so far, because it is valid in 95% of the cases.
Hi,Cosmin.
I have played the exercises in a slow temp many times.
During the break I recorded the exercise which I played relatively easily.
I posted it before but now it sounds a little better.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/8b8v2q18n081n4q/sum%2041%207.m4a
So I recorded my last attempt of drop d arpeggio lesson in the 100 % speed.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/zho4f282rvg8dow/drop%20d%20arpeggio%20100.m4a
Tomorrow I will record the picking lesson(video)
Hey there mate!
Great rendition of the Sum 41 drill - you only choked a note around 0:40, aside that the playing seems to be in good timing. Now, the things you could work on, is making the general feel of the whole lesson sound more fluid and the lead tone - it has a bit too many high frequencies - what do you use for it?
Regarding the scale/arpeggio exercise - the timing seems ok, but there are still plenty of notes which are being choked there - you need to practice this one slower. I would still like to hear a slow recording in which I can be sure that you can play everything 100% clean and in perfect timing - deal?
Cosmin
Hi,Cosmin.
Ok, I will record video(arpeggio) as you said.
It is my video(inside picking).
https://www.dropbox.com/s/8ukiju1tisd5tyu/picking%C2%A0%E2%80%94%20%D0%91%D0%BE%D0%BB%D1%8C%D1%88%D0%BE%D0%B9.m4v
It is like the phrase from my exercise which I am not able to fulfill at the present time.
I understand how interesting you are leading my to my goal.
It is really nice.
Thank you.
Hello my friend Yes, you got that right, I was trying to give you something to work on, in order to help you achieve better results with the other one
Now, what I would like you to do, is to switch of the distortion and record this one once again with a clean tone - notice that the inside picked notes are barely audible, due to the high amount of distortion and the fact that you are not picking them as defined as you should. Using a clean tone will help you achieve more definition in your playing, so let's try it like that. I want you to make EACH and EVERY note count, ok? I want to hear all of the notes
Ok,I thought about this yesterday.
Hi,Cosmin.
I did as you said.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/5m8efybvxo0cz76/picking%C2%A0%E2%80%94%20%D0%A1%D1%80%D0%B5%D0%B4%D0%BD%D0%B8%D0%B9.m4v
I am still not ready.
Well I'm on the way.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/jbgmj8xcxov9kyy/drop%20d%20arpeggio%2085%25%204.m4a
I would like to ask you about a sound. What do you think about this:
I play through headphones but one idea came to my mind.
I want to play through an amp.
I guess this should be nice.
Or is it a whim?
I have read on forums and youtube many reviews about different AMPs.
In general, it is not cheap.
This combination has attracted my attention: Peavey 6560+,Marshal 1960 Lead.
I am not going to buy it now but I would like to understand.
Hey amigo!!
I think you did a much better job in the clean picking now - can you hear how the notes are starting to separate and gain definition? That's your aim here practice it a bit more and I am sure it'll work out soon, very soon - I will also think about a new lesson incorporating this technique, once you get this one in perfect shape.
Regarding the slowed down version - please remain at this tempo and focus on the following:
- you tend to play well in the high registers and not so well in the low register - focus on getting all the notes sounding clear in the low registers, ok?
- all the notes need to have the same dynamic when you pick them, focus on making all the notes sound even
Deal?
Regarding the amp, there are a few things which you need to take into consideration:
- your budget
- your sound preferences - an amp suited for metal or a more versatile amp... for instance
- should it be a combo or a head and cabinet?
Owning an amp is very nice and if it's a tube amp, you will develop a great hand, as you will have to learn to control it
What are your thoughts? The 6505+ is not that great - I'd go for the 6505 simple version, if you were to ask me
Cosmin
Hi,Cosmin.
And one more attempt
https://www.dropbox.com/s/gciemdqynfbzj90/drop%20d%20arpeggio%2085%25%205.m4a
OK
Lets try, with pleasure
About arpeggio:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/te83qhbvzqxyyf6/drop%20d%20arpeggio%2095.m4a
Tomorrow I will record on 100% speed.
Hey there Pavel,
It is mainly ok, with a few exceptions - please see min 00:08, 00:13, 00:19 - you tend to be out of synch in these spots. As we discussed before, the lower registers are the issue you need to work on. You tend to lose definition when you get there.
Now, for a bending and vibrato experience, what would you say about this: http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Beginners-Corner-21-String-Bending/
Cosmin
Hi,Cosmin.
I would like to tell you about my impressions.
My friend give me to try Ibanez Tube scream 30.
I enjoyed an open sound.
I hope that I will get Mesa Boogie mini 25 with Mesa Cab 1x12 in December - January.
I am really very impressed.
About the exercise:
I don't like it(I don't know why) but I know that I have to do it.
I will do it in a couple days.
Now I decided to transcript one thing. Blinded Colony - Heart.
It is the first time in my life.
If you help me I will be thankful very much.
Cheers
Hey Pavel, my friend
We can always find another bending lesson - I chose this one simply because it was the most basic one and it will get you acquainted with the moves - it's your call here mate
Now I totally recommend the TS 808 when it comes down to the tube screamer, not the new TS 900 and the Mesa - my God, you're gonna have a rig Hehe!
Well, about the song - in order to start sorting it out here are the steps you should begin with:
- Establish the structure - how many different parts are there in the song and how are they linked?
- Find the tonality and the tuning
- Sorting out each part and mastering it
Have you already started learning it?
Hi, Cosmin.
Of course,I am ready to start.
It is so interesting.
About bending lesson.
I will do it.
I understand that some things I don't like
but I should do because it develops my skills.
Well,I am doing one more exercise.
It is not finished but I want to show you.
Because I want you to see my progress.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/xn5y7kjqzsvpa07/F%23%20phrig%20120%2019.m4a
As usual I am not satisfied but I remember your words "to be patient"
I am very thankful to you and very glad that you are teaching me.
Hey my friend!
I notice that the long notes sound pretty good, but when the fast parts appear you tend to make them muddy and unclear due to the fact that they are faster than your actual playing possibilities at the moment - any chance you might isolate the fast runs and record them against a metronome at a slow tempo, paying attention to playing clean and as rhythmic as possible?
Hi,Cosmin.
About a structure.
The first is clear.
I could not understand how find tonality and tuning by hear
Hi,Cosmin.
It is OK, because when I was in Kiev I got ESP Horizon NT II.
It will be in a drop tuning.
If I understood right I need to buy 11-56 strings.
And aso I have my first guitar Gibson LPJ.
It will be in a standard tuning.(well that's not sold my Gibson)
Cheers
Oh, so you will actually have two guitars, right?
Until then, how is the bending lesson coming up?
Hi,Cosmin.
Yes,I have two guitars.
Today I bought new strings.
And now my ESP is in a drop B tuning
and Gibson is in a standard one.
About Ibanes screamer 808. In Russia It will be able to buy only in November
About lessons.
I always do all exercises which my Master gives me.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/bhxbsidgbo3bckk/bendibg%203.m4a
I told you before it's not that simple lesson as it may seem at first.
About AMPs
My friend from Kiev has Diezel. He sold me his guitar (it's on video)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zzSCDnw7iaQ
I hope in a few years when I will able to play tolerably I will by that monster of a sound
And now my Master leads me.
Cheers
Hi,Cosmin.
About my first transcription.
I write down the structure of the song.
Intro consists of four figures which repeat several times.
I tried to transcript every one.
In the evening I will post my records.
I think something is not correct.
I hear and play it many times and at the end I could not make out anything.
I think my ears are tired.
And it is enough difficult for my playing at the present time.
I thought that it is a simple song.
Well, I will continue in the evening
Cheers
Hello Pavel
I think you have the structure correctly, but you need to work on reaching the correct pitches of each bend - please re-record and focus on reaching every pitch correctly. In order to do so, one good method is to rehearse with the original recording and make sure that your take is perfectly superimposed over the original one.
What do you think?
That Diezel is A MONSTER
Ok, I will do it.
It would be better if you recommend me something for transcription.
Because I can chose something difficult again
Great!!
Hey mate - let's start with this one: http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Power_Chords_Workout/
Well,I tried
https://www.dropbox.com/s/l3glp8irfmkirqh/bendibg.m4a
but the sound is not like on the video
Hello, Cosmin.
Of course I will.
About transcription.
What do you say about this?
https://www.dropbox.com/s/ccivixevh8vuyoh/MesaBoogie%20Mini%20Stack%20%28Demo%29.mp3
Or it's difficult for me at present time?
I find this on a russian forum.
One man bought mesa mini and recorded his demo.
Well, and it is my homework(power chords)
https://www.dropbox.com/s/q1gw9hdmnzc2x4c/power%20chords%202.m4a
Cheers
Hi,Cosmin.
I would like to thank for this lesson "TesseracT style".
It is so cool because I heard riffs like Blinded Colony.
I am very glad.!!!!
I am going to do this lesson.
Hey mate! I think that it is difficult at this stage indeed - there's a lot of complicated phrasing and techniques which you can't handle yet, but the good news is that you did a nice job with the power chords! It sounds good!
I am glad you like the Tesseract lesson - it is a bit difficult, but what the hell, let's hear what you can do Deal?
Hi,Cosmin.
Thanks for your belief in me.
It increases my responsibility to you.
I will try not to disappoint my Master)))
Hi,Cosmin.
I have one question about the lesson.
When I tuned my ESP in Drop A the strings loosened.
And when I started playing figure like this
-8-------8
---------
---5-x-5-
the 6(th) string make a sound like a flageolet when a mediator touches the string to make a pause ----x-----
and I palm it by right hand.
Is it right?
I am going to business trip to Moscow tomorrow and will return on Saturday to continue.
I hope I will record something on Sunday(may be earlier)
Cheers
Hey Pavel! When you have the right time, please shoot a video showing me what you mean, because it's the easiest for me to understand, ok? Success on your trip!
Hi,Cosmin.
I was a little busy but I didn't stop playing.
About Tesseract lesson.
It is in a drop A tune I think that is a very low.
I am doing it and not ready to show my result.
In parallel I tried to transcript something easier than Blinded Colony.
I could not find back track so I will post an original vers and my transcription.
Don't look at my technic I will correct it.
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/gqoh4o4ss6ib64s/uIWeBC9Ue9
It is the first attempt in my life.
Hey mate, welcome back - no rush regarding the Tesseract lesson - when you have something you can share it with me
About the transcription - mate, it sounds good to me! Now, as you said, you need to work on making it sound tight and correct - I recommend you to record against a metronome and try to make things flow and sound even. You are on the good way!
What else have you been up to?
Well,I heard Diezel Hagen.
It is very impressive.I have no words to express my thoughts.
I think it would be great if it would be in my loft
About my technic.
I would like to know is any exercises to increase fingers' speed or it develops itself ?
Hi,Cosmin.
I sold my Gibson LPJ last Thursday and now I have only one guitar - ESP Horizon NT II.
But I set on 10-46 strings on it and I think that drop A has not enough good sound.
I suppose that the lowest tune in this instance is drop C.
Well in paralel I am working on
- F# Phrigian -B minor solo lesson
This is a Fridays attempt https://www.dropbox.com/s/punhu6ehrzujaxl/F%23%20phrig%20120%2024.m4a
- Modern metal lesson
This is Friday attempt too https://www.dropbox.com/s/8s5pfmku02bh6ve/Metal%20lesson%20100%25%202.m4a
And I learnt intro solo Fade to black by Metallica.
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/f67sjq9ima5qod4/ohNtZt-lQd
I understand that they are in a very high level but I liked them.
There are legato, speedy arpeggio, palm muting and others technics in these lessons.
And I am going to continue a transcription others songs.
foe example this : https://www.dropbox.com/s/qzi71d7nqv541jx/Allyria_-_Breath_of_life.mp3
It impressed me very much
Cheers,
Paul
Hello mate
I have listened to everything you sent and my thoughts are unanimous towards the little hurdle you have to jump right now - you attempt tackling stuff which is a bit over your level and the only way in which you will be able to play those things, is slowing down.
The one which sounds best in my opinion is the metal lesson, which is close to your level. The others have parts which are faster than you can play right now and you need to slow those particular parts down and work on them with a metronome. For instance, the lick in the Metallica solo - the fast one - let's start with that Can you record it at let's say 50% against a metronome?
Ok.
I will try.
You see I am very impatient but when I am training I do it in a slow temp.
I would like to ask you don't look at my paralel exercises.
I feel that you prepared a learning plan for me and I don't want to broke it.
It is not good and will stop my increase.
So I will always do every exercises which you give me.
Others are like a hobby for general developing.
We stopped at a power chords.
Cheers
Thank you for your kind thoughts man I am trying to make the basics work flawless for you, so that's why I insist on tackling simpler things which will sound good, as your level allows it. The transitions from one level to another should be smoother, you know? Impatience well, you seem like you have lived enough to know that impatience doesn't bring anything good in one's life - am I right?
So, let's focus on the recording of the Hinder song - it's got riffs which you can play quite well, so why not use it as a rhythm developing exercise and record it tight and focusing on having great timing and balance. The chords/ riffs should also sound clean and full! Deal?
Hi,Cosmin.
I absolutely agree with you about impatient.
But this is a trait of my character, which I am fighting my whole life.
That is why I appreciate the advices that you give me.It helps me very much.
So, I will post Hinder's riffs soon taking into account your comments.
Hi,Cosmin.
I like philosophy.
I read Emerson.
He was a Great American philosopher in 19-th century.
In modern philosophy I like Joe Vittale.
Thank you for your link very much.
It is like a Master Key system.
Ok,I recorded Hinder's transcription.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/o231zb6py7dkb7s/hinder%20heaven%20sent%203.m4a
Cheers,
Paul
Hi,Cosmin.
I am glad because my Master praised me.
I recorded that track by metronome on 130 dpeed.
I will try to record against original.
But I should transcript a solo.
Unfortunately my English is not enough good to express all my thoughts.
But I think you feel my thoughts.
All is energy. We just have to tune on the same wave.
Cheers,
Hi,Cosmin.
Yes.
It begins on 2:02 min and finishes on 2:09.
Ok.
I understand what you are talking about.
Because today I tried to transcript but ha-ha.
It is very difficult for me.
Well, tomorrow I will record what you said.
Hehe - I am glad that we agree and as long as you will learn to have patience and take things gradually, all will be well.
Let's hear the rhythm part and then we'll see what's what with the solo as well
Hi,Cosmin.
I am a little busy.
But I hope tomorrow I will take a time for playing the guitar.
Hey there my friend - no problem Take your time!
Hi,Cosmin.
I recorded.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/wih2wghtmrwg2dh/hinder%20heaven%20sent%206.m4a
Wow Mate this sounds very good!
I think that this is a good approach to learn songs and play along with the original recording and this song is at your level out of what I can hear. The solo tho, I think it will have to wait as you are not technically ready for it YET
Now, what GMC lessons were you also working on and you haven't yet recorded?
Well.
I am working on two lessons:
http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/German-Power-Metal-IV-Primal-Fear/
I like this sound.
I think I will be ready soon
And this one :
http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/godsmack-style-lesson/
I know that they are difficult but I remember your words and do it in a very slow temp.
And I see how my speed is improving day by day.
Unfortunately the weather is rainy and I have got a cold.
I think I will not take a guitar a day or two((
If it will, I spend a time for theory.
Uh oh - these seem difficult!
I think that your goal here would be to record with the slowest of backing tracks available and make sure that everything is played clean and in good timing. It will take a while if you plan on getting them on full speed - especially the Godsmack lesson which has that solo at the end. That one is pretty much above your level right now... These are my thoughts if you wish to pursue with these two lessons. Have you been practicing the scales and arpeggios one? Has it improved?
Get well soon and stay healthy man!
Cosmin
Hi,Cosmin.
I will do as you say.
If you will show me some scales lesson,I appreciate very much.
I want to follow you and thankful very much.
Hi,Cosmin.
I just have returned to home from Moscow and read the GMC forum.
Cool.
Thank you very much.
Really,I like this.
I am going to to them right now.
Hi,Cosmin.
Many questions came to my mind.
I will range them and when I will aware some of them I will ask
The most important thing is that I could not remember the notes on the neck.
May be it is because I play scales very rarely.
Well, I hope time will correct this.
))
I decided to record one more lesson.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/e37wmvmi8g8w5s0/goodmask.m4a
I play it in a very slow temp but recorded a little. It is my first record of this lesson.
I will post secondary vers next week that you can see what happen with my playing.
Hey mate - glad that the lessons help you. Indeed, learning the fretboard is a matter of time and playing I can tell you more- but I will do it in a video - so stay tuned
About the recording - it looks like you nailed all the parts, but you are not dead on with the drum track - please focus on that, ok? I think that at a later stage - but not too late, you can play the rhythm part well at full speed as well if you practice it mindfully and pay attention to play in perfect sync with the drums. About the lead - first go through the scale lessons I suggested and then, try the solo - do we have a deal, my friend?
Here ya go, mate:
Thank you so much.
Every time when you are explaining something for me it is inspire very much.
Everything goes on its place.
Well, I will try to record video.
It is unusual for me but once I did it why do not do this again.
Hi,Cosmin.
Today is Friday, evening and I am very glad.
I am going to record video and lessons.
I would like to tell you that your method of learning the fretboard is working.
Really.
Cool.
I am almost ready to show you how I have learnt Dm and D scale.
I am very inspired of you that I recorded one more cover.
Bullet for my Valentine
https://www.dropbox.com/s/4jrsu8klgn6r4ta/Your%20betrayal.m4a
Hey mate - glad to hear that you are enjoying your practicing and that the methods we are trying are fruitful!
I have listened to your recording - everything seems to fit, but the mix is a bit muddy and some parts are not that easy to distinguish - what have you used to record? The riff tone should be a little bit more defined, but otherwise, I think you did a very good job - here's what I have in mind
Are you up for making a video out of this last recording, focusing on playing with a little bit more definition? It would be a great inspiration for everyone in the forum!
Hi,Cosmin.
Firstly I want to say thank you.
You help me to be more lifeful.
I can't explain what I feel.
I did it.One time before I could not imagine that I play the guitar.
I would like to show you my first video cover.
But I saw the original video.
They play in a little different way.
I think I will correct soon
Hi,Cosmin.
I corrected.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1x6R4DkVTcg
https://www.dropbox.com/s/upz3l630xsnnlko/Bullet%20for%20my%20Valentine%20your%20Betrayal%20Cover%C2%A0%E2%80%94%20%D0%9C%D0%BE%D0%B1%D0%B8%D0%BB%D1%8C%D0%BD%D1%8B%D0%B9.m4v
I think I should record the second guitar.
Hey Pavel!
Can you send me the you posted in the previous post again? It seems that the embedding went wrong
On a side note, I am very glad that I can make a change for people! Thank you!
Of cousre
This is my first record
https://www.dropbox.com/s/r91h4s5s3ew61g8/Your%20Betrayal.m4v
And this is the second
https://www.dropbox.com/s/upz3l630xsnnlko/Bullet%20for%20my%20Valentine%20your%20Betrayal%20Cover%C2%A0%E2%80%94%20%D0%9C%D0%BE%D0%B1%D0%B8%D0%BB%D1%8C%D0%BD%D1%8B%D0%B9.m4v
Hey mate - the second video is indeed better and I noticed you have corrected something without me telling you Which is great, if you noticed it yourself - the part starting at 0:36 had much larger finger movements in the previous video and now you are moving less - good work
Mate - I want to post this second video in the practice room so that everyone can see your great evolution - what do you think? I say it's very well played!!
Hi,Cosmin.
I am very glad that that you liked it.
Of course it is a nice idea.
It's very important for me to know that my work can inspire somebody to do something for better.
Thank you very much.
P.S.,my wife and me want to visit Europe.
She is very impressed by legends about Dracula.
When we discussed this we realized how little we know about Romania.
We are going to Romania in November,I hope everything will be fine and we will do it.
I would like to be polite and invite you for a cup of coffee.
I think it would be great!
What do you think?
Hey mate - glad you like my idea I will post it right away, in the Practice room!
Sure I would like to have a cup of coffee - we can make a video saying hello for GMC and you can meet all of my band if you want! When do you think you will arrive in Romania?
Hi,Cosmin.
It would be so great to do that.
I think it would be very nice to meet your band.
I can't find appropriate words, it is so amazing.
Tomorrow I will be in the travel company.
I will tell you when I will know the arrive time.
We would like to arrive between November,8 and 15
certainly!
One idea came to my mind.
What do you think, if I am prepared for the meeting and will learn some your work, since we will meet with your band.
I liked Journey.
It would have been impossible for me at all.
Maybe we would have made the video for GMC.
I'm certainly not a musician and an artist, and that's what's happening now as a parallel world as a new reality.
I came up with I'll do your photo on the cover and call it the New Reality. I'll take a professional photo camera.
I Just want to do something good for you.
Hi,Cosmin.
It's great.
I am very glad that you liked this idea.
Alright! I will send you a version without the vocals So you can hear everything better
Hi,Cosmin.
Thank you very much.
But anyway it is not easy for me.
I know that the desire - it's a strong thing.
Well,about lessons.
I am almost ready to record Legato lesson (D scale).
I would like to tell you several words.
I usual played scales by metronome on three noes in a click.
But in this lesson I should play four notes.
Firstly it was really difficult to count.
I am going to record soon.
Ok.
Great! Let me know when you are ready
Hi,Cosmin.
I tried to record Dm lesson in a slow temp without legato.
I think I was focused more on a count than on a technic.
When I played I counted one-two-three-four.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/qfdid0qqfubkoww/Dm.m4a
It is really unusual.
And it is difficult too because the melody wants that I play triplets.
Hi,Cosmin.
Yes,you are right.
It is very interesting.
When I began to count 4-th I could not catch the melody.
And I had written you about that.
but when I began to count 8-th and after 16-th
everything became clear.
Awesome Well, work on the hand coordination and let's see a new take - deal?
With a pleasure.
I am going to record today in the evening.
Well, today in the morning I started C lesson.
Oooo...
It is more difficult.
I have learnt only two parts of that.
I am not rushing,I always remember your
words.
In paralel I have learnt Alter Bridge-One Day Remains
with solo in a slow temp.
And Disturbed - Indestructible but without solo yet.
I will show you on this week.
One thing is not convenient for me.
One day Remains is in a Standart tuning
and Disturbed is in a Drop C tuning.
I set new strings 11-50 for playing in these ways.
But I don't like an always retuneing of my guitar.
I did something.
with legato.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/28s56k2ahzyjfx5/D%202.m4a
and 100% speed
https://www.dropbox.com/s/uw2stn42dxvd7hs/D%20100%25.m4a
Hehe - well, that's the inconvenient of having to work with different tunings and have only one guitar, mate Looking forward to see the vids - I love both bands a lot!
In respect to the recordings you have sent:
- please check the tuning of the guitar before recording, ok?
- the slow one has perfect timing but it needs a bit of cleanup
- the fast one has a bit of a timing issue in the very beginning (00:00 - 00:08), but you pick things up along the way and it stays good till the end. It needs a bit of cleaning up as well, but my general conclusion is that... You are on the right track my friend! The details are all that remains for you to work on now Good timing, clean and articulated, expressive playing is what you should aim for!
Hi,Cosmin.
I did not write because I was learning the scale lessons and was not ready.
I would not like to spend your time in vain.
I finally have learned C scale lesson.
It was really not easy.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/043hwq4s67yrup6/alternate%20picking.m4a
Now I am near from the results of my several works.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/4k7vsj66w17ob9o/German%20Power%20Metal%203.m4a
https://www.dropbox.com/s/mzk2ni4k7pfyrtd/German%20Power%20Metal%204.m4a
(Skillet -awake and alive , Whispers in the dark and Disturbed-Indestructible)
I am working on solos.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/4znzdnzmgbva6pb/awake%206.m4a
I tried to record double track (firstly - left and after right chanel)
I know there are many mistakes but it is my first attempt.
I am playing in a very slow temp I feel that I am close.
About my visit to Romania.
I could not to do it now but I will do it when I will take a vacation.
I want it very much.
I missed you
Heeey man Welcome back
Alright! It looks like you've been quite extra busy
Let's take things one at a time
Alternate picking - the timing is good and you have a pretty good flow at this speed, but the playing could be cleaner and there are a few mistakes here and there (notes that don't sound too clear, I mean) focus on cleaning up your playing at this speed and then push on with the tempo
German Power Metal - the tone is a bit saturated with gain and you should focus on playing cleaner and with better definition, especially for the licks between the main riffs - for instance, see minute 0:16 - maybe trying to record it at slow speed would be a good idea
Awake - out of what I can hear, you need to focus on timing a bit more as there are a lot of spots in which you are not dead on with the drum track. Is this a midi track? It sounds like one, so if it is, you could slow it down and focus on the song at slow tempo.
Regarding the solo - slowing down and focusing on playing clean and in good timing would be a great idea
About the trip, well, I am not leaving Romania for the time being so whenever you feel like coming, drop a line mate!
Cosmin
Hi,Cosmin.
I'm not lost, just had nothing to show.
I know that was not a good idea to record the things
which I am not ready technically to play at the present time.
But I thought that it would be like a test when I can compare my levels.
It is more important to focus on your tasks(lessons).
And I do it but sometimes I play different things to be more interesting.
I make experiments with different sounds to understand how it works.
I found out that the most appropriate gain for my guitar is 9 or 10 o'clock otherwise it is overgain.
Also I got Ibanez TS 808 and I try to use it.
I set on tone in 12-14 o'clock,level 15-18 o'clock and overdrive - 7 o'clock(0)
I could not find the source with normal back tracks but I will find out.
I found this and recorded without solo :
https://www.dropbox.com/s/uixszbf4vgk4pzh/awake%208.m4a
I know that the time will come and I play what I want.
Hey mate
This is much better! Both tone and playing wise! Good timing and definition, balance and playing with the drums! Please focus on the lessons now, in order to get them straight and we'll see what's next
Cosmin
Hi,Cosmin.
I am working on the exercise but I I have not yet succeeded.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/qwxnggdgjicwubp/alternate%20picking%206.m4a
https://www.dropbox.com/s/cl4t5syzbwotscw/alternate%20picking%207.m4a
I'm in no hurry.
I hope I will be ready in a couple weeks
))
Hey mate The first recording is pretty good - there are moments in which you tend to rush a bit and lose the tempo and you should focus on getting the notes clean all the time as there are a few spots in which you choke them.
The second recording, is rushed most of the time and not clean enough.. My opinion is that you should stay at the tempo in recording 6 and polish it so that it may sound immaculate! Deal?
Of course.
I just want to record much better to show you
I always appreciate your consistency and dedication man! Keep rocking and I will be here to help out, for certain!
Hi,Cosmin.
It is very nice to hear.
Thanks a lot.
This is my next attempt :
https://www.dropbox.com/s/lx779dqfd8qq49u/alternate%20picking%208.m4a
Hey mate - the timing is better indeed, now I'd work on the tightness and clean playing of the whole thing It's definitely a progress! Good going there mate!
Hi,Cosmin.
It's really a difficult lesson.
I will focus on things what you say.
Hi,Cosmin.
I like the way you lead me.
It is like a seed.
from the beginning sprouts are shown, after a stem, leaves.
you just you know, when there a flower will be.
And I trust you and follow you.
I see you feel when I am tired and you support and inspire me.
Thank you very much.
Gabriel invited me to join your new Collaboration called "The Day and Night Video".
It is so amazing.
But I did not do these things.
I would like to try.
Hey man! Thank again for your kind words
I know where you started from, I know you can do it and I know where you need to get to, but on the way I am only adapting to the situations in which you find yourself after recording something. I think it's the natural way to go and grow!
The collab! Yes! Great stuff mate - I will put your name on the collab list and you can post your takes here so that we will discuss them, before posting the final one in the collab thread, deal?
Hi, Cosmin.
It's cool.)
Thank you.
But I am a little in doubt about myself.
What and how I should start from.
I should take the A minor scale and improvise by backtrack it's clear.
But this is the most interesting.
Well,I will try.
Cheers
Mate try to sing a melody in your head and then find it on the guitar. Start simple Don't think in terms of scales - just find a melody in your head - you don't even have to touch the guitar. Pick up the guitar after hearing the melody in your head clearly and knowing how it should sound.
Hi,Cosmin.
I would like to ask you.
Do I do in the right way?
https://www.dropbox.com/s/legd0tmeiium1cz/collab%206.m4a
This is of course my sketch.
I hear more colorful thing in my head but I could not express it at the present time
because I have not enough technics.
I hope it it is in the future
Cheers,
Hey mate! This is very good, for your first attempt on this sort of thing
Now, I would lower the volume of the guitar a bit and then send over the track with the lowered guitars so that I may hear some details which I want to talk to you about - right now it's fairly difficult to distinguish them as I can't hear the backing You are on the good path, anyway, now we fix the details!
OK,
https://www.dropbox.com/s/g63u09yk0kc5tk8/collab%2010.m4a
https://www.dropbox.com/s/mca70i2p9wg5uq1/collab%208.m4a
Alright mate! I think your take is very melodic and you nailed a very nice concept of using the same phrase over different chords, thus highlighting the different functions taken up by notes in respect to the chords they are being played against. Very nice
Now, I would take care of that bend at 0:32 which is a bit weak and it doesn't quite reach the intended pitch and I would clean up the tone a bit to give it more definition. Otherwise, as I said, it's a great take for your first collab mate! I am proud!
Cosmin
Hi,Cosmin.
I understood about bending.
I will correct it.
I hear more colorful in my mind but I can't play it.
And I am a little upset about this.
That is why I am not satisfied.
You are supporting me,thank you very much.
What shoul I do?
Should I record this version clear and send it to Gab?
In parallel I am working on my lessons.
Hey hey matey!
There's still time - re-record this one with the corrected bend and save it, k? Then try to bring out the other colors that you hear in your mind and I will help you get them straight, if possible physically in the amount of time left. If not, you have this one which you can send to Gabe, but we have to try, right?
Hi.
OK,I will try.
I am going to busyness trip on a couple days.
I will be back and continue.
And this is my yesterday attempt
https://www.dropbox.com/s/ygahzgjkg44g15r/collab%2012.m4a
Cheers,
Hey mate this sounds very good!
I would focus a bit on the lead phrases like the ones around 0:23 are just a bit out of timing - it's very slight, almost imperceptible but it can be felt against the backing. What do you think, one more for the road?
Hi, Cosmin.
With pleasure.
I returned to home and ready.
Today I will do it.
Alright mate Keep going at this pace and as you are probably observing already, progress is occurring!
Hi.
There are my attempts.
the lesson :
https://www.dropbox.com/s/5wdczey9snk8k6x/alternate%20picking%2012.m4a
the collab :
https://www.dropbox.com/s/f9ylj9kkqp4ra69/collab%2013.m4a
It is far from perfect.
But I am going.
And it is an amazing journey.
P.S.
I saw your PRS guitar review.
It is very nice.
I am going to buy a guitar next year.
I like ESP.I have Horizon NT II and I think about PRS.
But PRS USA is very expensive and I think about Korea versions(SE).
I have enough time to find out how much difference between USA and Korea versions.
Unfortunately It is impossible to find PRS and test it in Penza so I will choose listening to the advice and reviews.
Hey mate!
Thank you! The PRS SE is a very fine choice and I think you can't go wrong with a Paul Allender for instance - the new one has EMG active pickups and it is a bit more aggressive than the usual models, as well as the Akerfeldt you've seen in the review.
I think we can go for this take for the collab - it's the best so far! About the alternate picking - you tend to lose hand synch in the upper registers as the low ones sound pretty tight. Could you focus on that and then, if things are cool with the next take, we can move on to a new one
Keep me posted mate!
Cosmin
Hi,Cosmin.
About lesson.
I can play without a tension on the speed 60 but I decided to record on more faster speed to increase my speed.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/hje8x2r9oe2qjob/alternate%20picking%2015.m4a
To see my progress I recorded the earlier lesson which I am playing not good at the present time but I can hear my improvement.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/s40qla7w1qug23r/F%23%20phrig%20120%2031.m4a
Tomorrow I will record and send to Gabriel my collab video.
Hey mate Unfortunately, this last take submitted has a lot of mistakes which are happening due to the high tempo which is above your level of playing - results: Hands out of synch... Don't rush mate
With the other lesson, the same thing - there are spots in which the recording is too blurry to figure out what's going on - please use a slower backing to record and focus on timing and definition. I'd rather have you play slow and accurate, with the risk of you cursing at me then to have you curse at me later because I allowed you to go through things like this
Deal, mate?
Cosmin
Ok.
I will more train in a slow temp.
Please do man I am not, by any means, trying to slow you down, but by slowing you down I am giving you the opportunity of building healthy naturally grown technique that will stick with you for the rest of your life!
I understand.
I use this rule always.
But sometimes I want to record in a faster temp that I can.
90 % of my training I play in a slow temp that I can play clear.
Don't get mad at me.
I do as you say.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/64g19p1tzdbwsmy/alternate%20picking.mp3
Ok
Hi,Cosmin.
It is really difficult to succeed.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/bl38vdnjs83jqt5/alternate%20picking%202.mp3
Hi,Gabriel.
Thanks a lot.
I am very glad that you are helping me.
Today I bought this for training my arms.
Hey mate! I am back in action! I see that Gabriel was helping you out with things while I was away
About that device, I have the same one Mine is red though and it used to be the most tensioned one they made - now I see that yours is 'heavy tension' ...
How are you?
Welcome back!
Hi,Cosmin.
I am very glad that you came back.
I hope you rested and gathered new strengths and emotions.
You a very creative man I am sure it will express in your new songs.
I am in business trip now and writing you from the hotel.
I bought two devices for using them in my business trips when I can't take the guitar.
The second is for the left hand

Hey mate!
Yes indeed, it was a trip to remember All the people I've met and the sights I have seen... truly amazing and inspiring I decided to work more for myself this year, as I literally wrote almost no new music at all last year... I guess there are times and times, but anyway, I will post a big story about the trip in the Chillout room so, stay tuned these days.
About the powerball - never ever tried it How does it actually work and feel? Do you feel your hand strengthen up already, or will it take more time?
I will try to explain.
It is a very interesting device.
When you begin to rotate it something sarts to rotate inside this stuff.
And you feel something very heavy in your arm.
It bacames so heavy that it is getting very hard in the forearm.
I suppose it should develop tremolo.
21 century.))
About the result of using these stuffs.
I feel strength in my hand and the most important I started to feel 3 and 4-th fingers of my left hand.
