Hey you guitarists out there !,
I wanted to start a new topic concerning the quite popular videogame guitar hero. I'd like to know what you (as people being obsessed with real guitar playing like me) think about pushing colourful buttons on a plastic guitar and plug in a games console instead of plugging in an amp. I am of the opinion that kids should go an learn how to play a real guitar an being part of THE REAL LIFE dont you think?
Thx for discussing ...!!!!

I think a lot of it stems from the lack of patience that people have now days. Real guitar requires a lot of time and effort to make any progress, and with guitar hero they can be playing their favourite songs in just a few hours mellow.gif

Thats not to say that guitar hero isn't fun, I've completed the third one twice now, but not to give real guitar a chance is a terrible waste indeed.

Yeah that is the point. But they are not actually playing their favourite song, it's kind of a fake, isn't it ! I really think this programm reflects in someway the increasing sick attitude of society. People wanna be rich without doing something for it, people wanna be a guitar hero, want to get all the great things in life without investing something in it. There is a quotation which says something like " you can't expect more from life than you invest". I think that hits it. That's also the reason why this game upsets me in someway.
Of course it is fun to play the game, it is also fun to play sport simulations for instance, I do own a console myself. But I think it all gets to extreme and overdone. People tend to prefer simulations of life from the real life and that is pretty disturbing !

I love guitar hero, it's really fun and has many great songs.

And I believe some people who play it and don't play guitar end up trying to learn the real thing, so I guess it's good.

Not everyone can devote the time that an instrument needs to learn, and having some fun with a video game that has to do with good music can't be a bad thing smile.gif

Lacking of patience...sick attitude of society....great explanation smile.gif

I guess game is fine tho I haven't seen it yet
but I'm afraid it has a lot to do with with sentences above. blink.gif

We live in sort of "instant" world so it's not big surprise to have a game like this wink.gif

It's not sick that people want to be something... How is that sick? If people don't want to play real guitar, too bad for them, at least they are having fun. It's not like everybody should start skateboarding and become a professional after years and years of practising instead of playing skateboarding games, or buy a rally car and become a rally professional instead of playing car games, or go to war instead of playing war games, etc. tongue.gif

Hey thx for posting your opinion. Well, as I already said it is definetly fun and naturally not a bad thing playing it. But the reason why this game was invented and one reason why it is played is part of a trend, i have been observing and i do not like.
I find it pretty doubtful whether people want to learn to play the real guitar after having played guitar hero. It is very probable that they TRY to after playing the game. But then they realise that it all sounds terrible and uncool (which is quite normal at the beginning) and then they want to play fast faked solos by pushing buttons again. In a nutshell, they may try but I guess the most will not stick by it because of all these reasons I mentioned.
Furthermore, do you really think people play it because they dont have the time to devote themselves to real guitar playing? I guess people who play lot computergames are not the one who have a serious lack of time. I am also a student and got a lot stuff to do for university but it would never come to my mind playing guitar hero because I have no time learning the solo of "enter sandman" on a real guitar !
Greetings...

I don't think it's because of a lack of time, I think that learning to play a real guitar is not what they want to use their time on. It's understandable, they have to spend at least a couple of years of practicing in order to be a good guitar player.

So they wanna be a guitar hero but do not want to spend time on it. I think that is a contradiction it itself...investing serious work in it is always worth it. When I started out my friends laughed at me because I played easy fingerpicking children songs with three notes on classic guitar. And now I am proud that i always sticked by it and am improving. It is a matter of satisfaction you know...it is like spending a 100 bucks you earned by yourself than spending the 100 bucks your father gave you...

I only played classical guitar when I was 9 years and stopped after a year and I started playing the electric guitar after playing the first guitar hero.

Not everybody thinks that. Don't get me wrong, I definatly think all my practicing was worth it, but I can understand that there are many people out there who wouldn't go through with it. I mean, the first months of playing isn't fun at all if your'e not motivated.. So why go through with it if it's not something that you burn for?

I don't think much of it, It's a game, meant to entertain and for people to enjoy. I don't consider it an example of a sick attitude in society, That seems a bit overboard to me. People of all ages have fun with it, and can just enjoy it, i dont see anything wrong with that.

I think it's great that people play the game and have fun. So what if they don't pick up a guitar through playing. I guarentee a lot of people play. Guitar Hero is great for playing round your mates and seeing how bad people are when drunk. I play guitar and also love Guitar Hero as it is incredible fun with your friends.

Yeah, to me there's nothing wrong with playing a video game that simulates playing guitar, I mean no one cares if someone buys a football game which simulates playing football. If someone doesn't want to get great on a real guitar, then why force them to? Their loss, but really, there's nothing imo wrong at all with playing this game (I actually own it and I suck at it tongue.gif ). I will never devote time to practicing it as I do with real guitar, but it's still enjoyable, especially to play with friends.
