In blues it is good to use major and minor pentatonic of the same key. This will form something similar to dorian mode when combined. Also blues scale.
In rock, you can use any mode, but major and minor scales within a key are used a lot. It is best to know all the modes equally well, so you can do some nice licks on top of any chord progression. In metal, any mode is good, but minor scale (Aeolian) and Harmonic Minor are often used in many tunes. In funk you can use just about anything, but everything that stands for blues you can use here as well, and beyond, meaning you can insert some jazzy licks, and chromatic passages as well. -------------------- - Ivan's Video Chat Lesson Notes HERE

I just wanted to know what scales you use for different styles of music... For example, What scales do you use for like funk, rock, metal etc... By scales I mainly mean modes... Thanks Here's funny thing. Per example, you can use minor pentatonic for all those styles you listed. But it's not always just about scale and notes, it's about expression, phrasing, notes choice etc. The way you approach this scale will give you certain style you wanna get, it maybe sounds a bit fuzzy for you atm but you'll realize what I'm saying in a while. -------------------- Youtube
