So, Google has finally done what I've only known was a matter of time until they did tongue.gif
No, they didn't buy Microsoft, that's next on their agenda. But they made a webbrowser. I've been using it for some hours just to test it out, and I have to say it's working great. It's fast, it has a huge browserwindow and it's clean and simple. The only thing I'm complainting about is that the spellcheck thingie I don't really need kicks in when I write posts like this. And since I'm not native english, red lines are everywhere. And I have to start the browser all over again every time I want to change it.

http://img411.imageshack.us/my.php?image=googlechromesz2.jpg Here's a screenshot of the browser

Anyone else have experience with Chrome? I'll problaby go back to Firefox, but it's fun to try new stuff ^^

I have to edit myself a little: The browser is not just fast.. It's insanely fast tongue.gif

Posted by: MickeM Sep 2 2008, 09:26 PM

Havn't tried it, but sure it good there's more competition amongts browsers. And they made the code open too.

Posted by: Bogdan Radovic Sep 2 2008, 09:28 PM

Gonna check it out now ! Thanks for input ! smile.gif

A link for people who might be interested: http://www.google.com/chrome ^^

Open code can only mean they don't hide nasty stuff inside, might be interesting.

Posted by: Ivan Milenkovic Sep 2 2008, 10:40 PM

Very interesting, thanks for sharing. Google is a big player, and I think this is gonna be a great product in the months/years to come.

Posted by: Bondy Sep 2 2008, 10:48 PM

Iam using it know takes a bit of getting used to but so far i love it

Posted by: audiopaal Sep 2 2008, 11:25 PM

I'll try it out, but I don't think it'll make me switch from Firefox smile.gif

Posted by: Marcus Lavendell Sep 3 2008, 07:50 AM

It doesn't seem to be available for Mac dry.gif

Posted by: chmilew Sep 3 2008, 10:54 AM

This browser looks pretty good, have to try this out too smile.gif

Posted by: Fsgdjv Sep 3 2008, 11:06 AM

Ive tried it a bit, and I've only enjoyed it so far, the only thing I miss from firefox is that little window to google in, because my screen is a bit damaged, so I have to copy words to there so I can read things properly (stripes all over the screen..), and that's the only thing I miss. I'll probably survive without it though, and it's sooo fast, it's incredible.

Last night I spent 3 hours reading and watching features about Chrome. It looked so impresive so I had to try it. It's been 10 hours of testing and I can only say Google rocks!!! IE will probably dissapear in a year and that's exactly what the team from Redmond deserves. I had enough of Microsoft and their bad systems.

The EULA has some curiosities, http://tapthehive.com/discuss/This_Post_Not_Made_In_Chrome_Google_s_EULA_Sucks
The same conditions got attention in other software recently.

I never thought I'd leave firefox...but using Chrome for a few hours has convinced me! wub.gif

That sounds plain wrong dry.gif
Guess I won't be trying it out after all..

whoa...concerning

Posted by: OrganisedConfusion Sep 3 2008, 01:40 PM

Of course they own the rights to everything you post using their browser and they will by keeping checks on everyone also. We are all being watched. Chuck Schuldiner when he wrote these lyrics in the 90's couldn't have been closer to the truth.

1,000 Eyes

Crossing the line into the other side
Emerging as prisoners
To the emptiness of time

To the left and to the right
From behind - they're out of sight
Plunging into a new found
Age of advanced observeillance
A worldwide, foolproof cage

Privacy and intimacy as we know it
Will be a memory
Among many to be passed down
To those who never knew

Living in the pupil of 1,000 eyes

Was it overlooked in front of all our faces?
Now, all the mistakes and secrets
Cannot be erased

Viewing the blind complexity
By which laws were justified
To erase simplicity

To the left and to the right
From behind - they're out of sight
Plunging into a new found
Age of advanced observeillance
A worldwide, foolproof cage

Privacy and intimacy as we know it
Will be a memory
Among many to be passed down
To those who never knew

Living in the pupil of 1,000 Eyes

We are enslaved now...

Chrome should just be used for hobby purposes then.. If a person should make some lyrics, as we have many of those here on GMC, and posts them.. Google get's permission to grab them and run?

Posted by: Fran Sep 3 2008, 02:41 PM

That looks like a move to the dark side on their part. I guess all major companies eventually turn Sith.

It means anything posted using their browser they can use for advertisement or for their own benefit without seeking permission.

I've downloaded it now, seems faster than IE or Firefox.

Posted by: kaznie_NL Sep 3 2008, 05:54 PM

I just wanted to make that topic tongue.gif

Posted by: Caelumamittendum Sep 3 2008, 06:37 PM

I just recently changed to Firefox, and I'm not sure I'm going to take the plunge to go all out on Google Chrome. I've downloaded it and installed it none the less though.

Posted by: jacmoe Sep 3 2008, 07:02 PM

A nifty litte browser, for sure - but let's not forget how Google has become a giant in just 10 years. smile.gif

They make a living by analyzing our internet behaviour - especially what we search for, how we search for it and when.
And, more importantly: how they and their advertisers can catch our attention, and steer our searching their way.

The more people are using Chrome, the more information they can gather, and sell. And the more powerful they get.

Cleverly thought out. wink.gif

Posted by: Ivan Milenkovic Sep 3 2008, 08:17 PM

I agree with Jacmoe, this browser is just another product that is making their position on the net even bigger. For now Firefox is great browser, but in some time, Google one could easily outrun it, mainly because what jacmoe nicely stated, Google makes a living out of our browsing wink.gif

Posted by: DeepRoots Sep 3 2008, 08:26 PM

Well as firefox is still functioning...i'll not switch.

If it ain't broke- don't fix it.

(Down with google!!!!...who's with me?!? .......okay just me...)

Posted by: Canis Sep 3 2008, 10:05 PM

Hehe, I'm back on Firefox for the time beeing. Using Chrome was like walking aorund in someone elses house that looked like yours.. It was similar, but it just didn't feel like home =)

And anyway, I'm addicted to all the plugins I use, such as Adblock Plus and a bookmark synchroniser between this PC and my laptop =)

Posted by: blindwillie Sep 4 2008, 08:28 AM

Yepp. I'll stick with FF for the plugins and googles weird policies.

Posted by: blindwillie Sep 4 2008, 12:47 PM

OK, google have updated the EULA after the criticism.

I might too smile.gif

Posted by: DeepRoots Sep 4 2008, 01:30 PM

I may too- but i wonder how much data they collected in that short amount of time from the people who agreed to the original terms and conditions...i'd bet on....alot.

Yeah, but they said that the rules would apply to all. Even those who already had agreed to the terms.
So they won't have the rights to anything really... I think biggrin.gif

Perhaps...but they may just mean that they no longer own whatever the previous people will post from now on- they may still own data that those people previously posted etc.

Who knows, bit of a grey area again.....who cares anyway- google are harmless right? rolleyes.gif

Can somebody please explain what the big deal about google chrome is?You all say it is faster...what do you exactly mean by that...I use Firefox and don't know at which point I could think "this could be faster"...So what is the advantage? Or is it just a huge hype?!

Internet pages load considerably faster, definitely not hype. Try it yourself! smile.gif

Posted by: jacmoe Sep 4 2008, 04:31 PM

Let's not forget that we are looking at the next Microsoft here, probably even more monstrous:
We are moving towards internet-driven applications, where your operating systems does not matter.
Chrome is built to handle applications, not only interactive web pages.

But, I read that the code engine behind Firefox is faster than even the new Google Chrome engine - so we can safely stay with the fox. For now. smile.gif

Until Google owns it all. laugh.gif

NO MORE ADDS ON CHROME! biggrin.gif

I'm using chrome with no adds whatsoever right now. I found this on another forum and it works:

"Just add on to your hosts file.

http://everythingisnt.com/hosts
just copy/paste, its a little outdated *updated last year* but it definitely gets all the major ads.

For the those that need a little help, your hosts file is located in \Windows\System32\drivers\etc\
If you're running Vista, make sure you give Notepad admin rights when you open the hosts file"

Ok just used Chrome for some time..Its nice , nothing special ...Has some bugs (like when moving the scroll bar above its position - you loose control then and it resets , its really annoying) smile.gif Going back to good ol' Firefox !

Posted by: Kuba Szafran Sep 7 2008, 06:05 PM

I got used to Fireforx, but maybe I should give a try to google chrome ..

Posted by: Jakub Luptovec Oct 1 2008, 03:45 PM

2 Bogdan : I use scrolwell so this doesnt happen to me.. but the problem is, I cannot use my 3rd button (the wheel-button) for scrolling as I am used on in every application..

On the other hand, GC boots in 3 seconds, firefox in 6, from time to time even 12..

Posted by: Nemanja Filipovic Oct 2 2008, 07:13 AM

I tried out the Beta, it looks nice and clean and easy to use. But I wonder does the world need another browser? smile.gif

Posted by: Nemanja Filipovic Oct 2 2008, 10:53 AM

Just installed the Chrome, and it looks really nice and clean.:)Will do a bit more exploring on the Chrome today.

Posted by: OrganisedConfusion Oct 2 2008, 10:54 AM

Posted by: Ivan Milenkovic Oct 2 2008, 11:34 PM

If the boot time is 3 seconds, that is very appealing to me. I'll download it and try it smile.gif

Posted by: Jakub Luptovec Oct 3 2008, 10:03 AM
