Chandra,

Feel free to tell me as many things as possible about your playing and knowledge. Audio and/or video of your playing could also help. I am looking for specific goals (short and long term) so that I could create proper plan for you smile.gif

Hey Pedja,

Thanks for having me. I hope this is confirmed. smile.gif

Anyway, so as you might have seen here and there, I have been playing since 1993. Got interested in guitar back at school and kind of stopped after I left school. Then, it was just strumming around for myself until 2003 when I bought my first guitar. I started practicing seriously only like a year back when I decided that I needed a mentor if I wanted to improve and was searching for online lessons when I found GMC. So, thats basically it.

I concentrated much on AP and speed stuff during this one year and I can now do 170bpm 16th notes. Currently, I am practicing AP lesson by Muris and hoping to post a REC in next 2 weeks if I can get some time off from your assignments. biggrin.gif So, I have kind of "amateurishly mastered" speed. I think this speed is enough for me. Too much speed doesn't really sound like music. I just wanted to play speed licks here and there since I was like stuck with 8th notes at 110bpm all the time before joining GMC.

In the middle, I started to concentrate on theory and took MTP with Emir where I learnt CAGED and few modes.

I know major scales/minor scales quite well and if given a bit of thought I can do modes as well (happened practiced much).

I am almost 0 at theory as I never took theory lessons. I know a few terms and can compose a song given the chord combination. I have composed like 20 songs till date. I like it. smile.gif I was really famous for that back in school... smile.gif

Anyway, in 3 months, I want to get used to the theory terms. I want to play awkward chords.. I am stuck at major /minor and 7th (a little). I want to also learn a bit of jazz (not necessary though). I have taken a look at some members MTP thread with you and have gone through some theory stuff, but I always tend to forget. I know its very vast but I don't want to be stuck at theory only. I want to be able to start improvising on a chord combination without having to think. I know this is BIG but if its possible I want to cover this too within this 3 month period.

I am ready to spend as much time as needed to quickly move along. I work from home for 3-4 hrs a day so I have time to practice even in weekends. I am ready to die to get going Pedja. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif ok that was too much I guess.

I won't be able to make it to the chat session though.. Usually it always starts at around 2-3am my time so its really hard.. i can't wait to stay up nor wake up early to be in the chat. sad.gif I will try my best though at times.

So, I hope my goals are clear enough. I know I am asking like a 10 years thing but I want to learn more of theory / composition / improvisation stuff than techniques at this point.

Thanks,
Chandra

Ok I will also post videos.. I didn't see that in your post earlier. smile.gif

Oh I forgot to mention. I am into more melodic stuff than just random improvisation. Hopefully, I can know the secret as well. smile.gif I love Joe Satriani.

Hi Chandra,

Thank you for this thorough guitar CV. I can already tell you are good with technique! smile.gif
Goals you mentioned regarding theory and harmony (chords) will be great thing to work on. Your 1st assignment will be theory and harmony reading! You will be quizzed on that assignment so make sure you read it many times and memorize it. I will also give you my chord lessons for REC. They should really increase your overall fretboard knowledge and improve your chord vocabulary. Overall, I think following 3 months will be very exciting. I should be able to post your 1st assignment tomorrow so look out for it in this part of forum.
