GMC Forum _ CHILL OUT _ Best Shows And Albums Of The Year

Posted by: Gitarrero Dec 11 2011, 10:07 PM

Yes, it is time for these much loved year review threads again!

How about listing our top 5 concerts and albums this year?

My top 5 albums in 2011:

Foo Fighters - Wasting Light
Beatsteaks - Boombox
Dropkick Murphys - Going Out In Style
Ghost Brigade - Until Fear No Longer Defines Us
Yellowcard - When You're Through Thinking, Say Yes

Now I could easily name 10 favourite concerts...but I will stick to 5:

Foo Fighters (Hurricane Festival)
Beatsteaks (both shows in Muenster and Freiburg)
NoFX (Area 4 Festival)
Iron Maiden (Oberhausen)
Arch Enemy (Bochum)

I gotta say, all bands I have seen live this year were amazing, looking forward to the monster festival year 2012 when I'll be going to Rock im Park (Metallica, Die Toten Hosen), Southside (Die Aerzte, Blink182) and Area 4 (Beatsteaks) and I'll see Dream Theater, Rise Against and The Scorpions. Already looking forward to it!

To sum up the year, at least two more things have to be mentioned:
I had a legendary chat with dark dude for...let's just say several hours in the GMC chatroom. Unforgettable smile.gif Sollesnes and a few others also joined in. Gotta say, the community has become even better this year smile.gif

Second...I went to a David Hasselhoff show with a friend of mine just for fun. Yes, the rumors are true, he is pretty big in Germany. He played in the same venue as Iron Maiden (Arena Oberhausen) and just like the Iron Maiden show his concert was sold out. There is no way I can describe the show...my friend recorded this video (yes, he played Looking For Freedom 3 (THREE) times during that show):

If you ever go to one of his shows...make sure to get drunk.

So, how was your year?

mm this is so difficult... I know that the concert of my life will be Foo Fighters the next year... this year I have seen Ax7, Paramore, Snow Patrol, Sonic Youth, Silverstein, and all have been good concerts but nothing magical as I know that FF will be. smile.gif

Regarding new albums.. I remember listening a lot to Foo Fighters: Wasting light, Thrice: Major/Minor and the new Blink 182 album.

Hatesphere - the great bludgeoning (Modern Thrash/Groove/Death metal band. AWESOME live!)
Autopsy - Macabre Eternal (Do i even have to say anything... REAL death metal)
Steven Wilson - Grace For Drowning (Progressive rock FTW!)

I havent seen 5 bands live this year xD
