I'm looking to drop $1700-2100 on a new AXE.

I know I will need to play them both to make a decision but I am interested in my Metal Head Families opinions !!!

Should I get the ESP Horizon FR or the Jackson SL2H ?? This is the million dollar question ??

I play metal as both of these I'm thinking are shredders and should give me some good marriage time.

both companies make good guitars BUT for that kind of money you can get a better axe then both of those like a PRS (not a SE) used if you look around or you could even find a Bernie Rico Jr used. But if I had to choose between ESP and Jackson (which I own both) I would take the Jackson.

here is a bernie rico jr at a good price http://www.ebay.com/itm/USA-Custom-Shop-Be...c#ht_878wt_1304 (not mine of course but if i had one i wouldn't sell it lol )

Hey thanks for the Input. I was looking at the PRS Torrero but it was an SE. I've never heard of the B. Rico but it looks and sounds sweet. I appreciate the response. Thanks !!!

don't get me wrong on the PRS SE they are good also with a nut change and new locking tuners. But for the money you want to spend you can get a nice guitar smile.gif

This would be a hard decision for me. But since I already have a Jackson, I would go with an ESP I guess. haha I hope you find what you are looking for.

I vote for the ESP! I have used Jackson and it's a very good guitar but if I would buy a metal guitar I would go for the ESP one...

I know you are going metal, as I am a metalhead, but I was disappointed with my guitar that had active pups,so what I did was put an active in the bridge and a jazz in the neck and love the range I can get (dynamically)
and the esp has more room for the fingers, for shreddin up around the higher frets- this has got in my way on my jackson
if you get to play both, these are some of the less obviuos factors and
happy hunting

Eh, I haven't tried high-end Jackson's, so can't say.

However, I do agree with SpawnSC's Bernie Rico Jr suggestion. Be sure to check them out.

I've tried a few Jacksons and ESPs over the years, and overall I like ESP more.
I owned a ESP Eclipse II a while back, great guitar smile.gif

Man, I'm a Jackson fan tried and true but that Horizon FR-II looks like an awesome guitar. The things that stand out to me are the mahogany body with a quilted maple top and the ebony fretboard.

Seems like you could get the chunk of an LP out of this thing vs the alder body of the Jackson. Guess it will come down to how they feel in your hands.

UPDATE ----------------------UPDATE----------------------------UPDATE--------------------------------------

Just for those of you who are curious of which way I 'm going I thought I would share.

I am keeping my RR24 Jackson and I decided on the Jackson Soloist SL2H ....... That thing shreds.
The ESP was a good guitar also but IMO that USA SELECT is hard to beat. I love Seymour Duncan and that what is in it also.
Once I played the ESP and then Played the Jackson I knew it was the one !!!! Anyway I will be getting it around Christmas.
Just wanted to let you guy's know. Thanks for all your input on it.

What's the Jackson Soloist SL2H like against the ESP M-II with neckthru? It looks pretty close in comparision, both well built shred machines. cool.gif

Don't overlook Ibanez RG series, very good value for money and the neck's are built for warp speed

It was a very hard decision. They are both awesome guitars. I think cause I have the Jackson RR24 I have gotten used to the 14-16 radius fingerboard. Also I like Seymour Duncans as I replaced the EMG 81 in my RR24 with A Seymour Duncan Blackout.
Not that I could not replace the ones in the ESP or that was my deciding factor I just liked the way the Jackson felt in my hands and I felt like the Clean tone was a little better. I was playing through a Marshall 1960 cab with a jvm-210H. Just a metter of preference. Hell I may get the ESP a little later and have them both. smile.gif-

jstcrsn I was actually salivating on the store. I kinda had that high feeling you get from the sprayed ether in a new car when you drive it. I wish I had that setup at home. I just have the MA-100 but this 4 EL84's are sweet. I just hate the distortion on the head. It really sucks. I use the Metal Master pedal on it. I also bought a BR-1600CD Home Studio that will come in Wednesday I'm anxious to play with. Now if I could just find a way to quit working and stay home and JAM. Every day all day !!
