Had To Wipe My Laptop, I had it backed up

I've been having problems with my laptop for a long time - errors, snail-paced loads, etc.

I took to it to my local computer repair shop for help. To make a long story short, he told me a couple of days later that my computer was so "ate up" and was having issues with installing service packs. I had told him I had my stuff backed up in case he had to wipe it and start over. Well, that's just what he had to do. He only charged me $50 bucks for something I could have done myself, but I don't mind the service since he could just take care of it for me. The fact that he tried was worth it. There's probably not a way he could have fixed some of the errors from what he said.

I'm just glad I had my files backed up. I have successfully dumped the files back onto my laptop from my 1 TB mini external hard drive. The only things I forgot to back up were my bookmarks and downloads. However, I'm not too worried about it. They weren't anything I can't slowly restore.

Now my computer runs as it should, and I have a new free program I didn't know about: Malwarebytes' - Anti-Malware.

Ad-aware and Search and Destroy are good too.

Never turned my laptop or PC in for somebody to fix in a situation like that, you get ripped off. There's a chain here in England called PC World, who have this 'Tech Crew' that love format your HD before blinking an eyelid, then charging you a silly amount.

Just do regular scans for malware, adware, etc and remember to defragment your drives now and again. Great job on your part for making a backup!

Don't get AVG, AVG is well pure crap, and don't use alot of anti-virus-ish programs, since they'll over ride eachother, or what it is called, get the anti virus program called Avast, its free basicly, all you have to do is from time to time, enter you e-mail so they can see how many users they have tongue.gif, and its awesome smile.gif

Well, how much is your current storage at? I have a 2 TB externa Seagate harddrive, its VERY VERY VERY cheap smile.gif
On amazon.co.uk you can get a 500 GB external Seagate harddrive for 36.30 GBP, 1 TB for 54.01 GBP and a 2 TB for 67.90 GBP, so if you do the math, it would be smartest to buy the 2 TB, plus you'll have extra space, which is always nice smile.gif, in case you need to back up more stuff or u like to download weird shizzle tongue.gif, and of course it comes with a power supply (no idea if you're one of the people that can't stand a external harddrive if it uses power supply tongue.gif)

I guess everybody has their preferences.

I was gonna get a 2 TB, but I didn't find a mini sized one at the time, so I just went with the TB one for now. I'll eventually upgrade.

Some anti-malware or adware programs will only pick up certain things. Run a few scans and you're sorted. I don't recommend two antiviruses either, heh tongue.gif

I had problems with AVG when playing games that used the anti-cheating program PunkBuster, no problems with Avast! so far.

Man, it's great that you do your backups. That reminds me to do backup again (and possibly get an external drive just for backup).
