Beginner Guitar Boogie, Lesson By Bogdan Radovic |

Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.
The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Original lesson: Beginner Guitar Boogie by Bogdan Radovic
Hello ! This is my very first take. I worked this lesson every day since I discovered it, so for three or four weeks. I'm not completely satisfied but I think that's the best I can do now on this lesson. Thank you for this lesson, Bogdan ! :) |

Hi Daeron, congrats on your first REC take!
I think that you are doing a good job with this lesson, you are very close to master the whole thing. I only note two things to take care about: - Timing: I notice that sometimes you tend to go a bit before the beat. Some notes / chords are played a bit before you should so you need to work on this. It's tricky at this point to think on all things at the same time to that's why I recommend to do things that help us to feel the tempo instead of thinking on it. How? Using your body to internalize the beat. You can tap with your foot, you can move your head with the groove, or even following it with your whole body. Try this, and combine it with closing your eyes and you'll be able to start feeling the tempo. - Intensities/dynamics: You are picking all the chords and notes with the same intensity, mostly soft. Check the original lesson and notice how the instructor plays strong with his pick, and also how he manages different dynamics to make his playing more organic. Other than these two things, I feel that you are doing a good job with this one, keep on the hard work. -------------------- My lessons

Awesome to see you in the REC zone Daeron!
I'm especially glad that you've tackled my lesson. Things instructor Gabriel has mentioned are spot on and I was getting the same impression when analyzing your take. * Dynamics : this is how hard or soft you hit the strings. You are playing this lesson rather softly in this take with very equal sounding hits (strums) on the strings. To get a better sound, you should vary your picking dynamics. You'll notice in the lesson that the groove uses an open E string (at the beginning) as a pivot note. Sometimes you just hit the open E string and sometimes you hit both open E and A strings (in the first section of the riff and then same thing happens starting on A string). When I'm playing this lesson, I'm mostly concentrating on accenting the notes which fall on the snare drum in the backing track. You should hit those notes (which are sounded at the exact time the snare drum hits) harder. Pick them with more strength. This will give you the basic groove. Once you have those dynamics going on (accenting the snare drum beats), you can experiment with varying how hard you pick other notes. To do this, maybe try this pattern : loud - soft - loud - soft starting with the loud strum on beat 1. That combined with accents on snare drum hits should really make the track groovy. Now - I know that this is not easy to do and dynamics are generally a bit more advanced topic but I think it would be great for you to be at least aware of the concept and idea behind dynamics as it will make a huge impact on your playing later on. * Timing: there is a natural tendency that you rush some notes and play them ahead of the beat. I think the long notes (which need to stay ringing) in comparison to 8th notes are ones that are throwing you off. To make sure you stay in timing, I'd suggest tapping your foot to quarter or 8th notes pulse. Please check out this lesson on the topic: LINK. Keeping timing in this lesson can be tricky so I think that you did a fairly good job here and that you should be able to take it to the next level and get it perfect. Please note that in the REC section only instructors can post comments, so if you have any follow up questions - please feel free to start a new topic about this lesson on my instructor board and we can discuss it further there : LINK -------------------- For GMC support please email support (at) guitarmasterclass.net
