Hi GMC, I'm abel from Houston, Texas. Man what an awesome site!!! I stumbled upon gmc one night when i was poking around on youtube. Ran across Muris Varajic's vid clip of the insane sweep etude. OMG!!!!!!! Totally blown away. So now I'm trying to learn the Muris' sweep etude. It is totally kicking my ass but I'm having a blast trying to learn it.

A little background... I'm an old dude (37), been playing guitar for a while. Never was really good but not a bad guitarist, but have been in kind of a slump for the past couple of years. Not really inspired to play anymore... didn't really know what to play. But when I ran across that sweep etude, and then started reading this site, I couldn't wait to play guitar again. Unfortunately, work keeps me from practicing as much as I want to but every chance I get, I'm trying to play that etude with a metronome. I sure wish I had a site like this when I was a kid just learning to play guitar!

Right now I'm playing on an Ibanez J-Custom RG7-1, boss gt-8 into a keyboard amp. I also have a thd bivalve plugged into a custom 2x12 cabinet. I don't really play through the bivalve anymore. WAY too loud. I recently thought about selling the bivalve.... Plugged it in just to make sure it was still working. It sounded SO good. I forgot how good the tone is through that amp. So yeah, i couldn't bring myself to sell the amp....

Anyway, this is a great site!!! There's so much to learn and you guys seem like a great community.

Thanks,

--abel

Welcome Kiddo. Great intro.
Isn't in weird/funny the older you get how the "WAY too loud" becomes a problem?

"Think of a guitar solo as a paragraph. You need a clear beginning, a middle, and an end. Look at musical phrases like sentences, and make sure you break them up using punctuation—or space. You pause naturally when conversing, right? If you don't, you'll bore the listener. The same thing will happen with your audience if your solo is one dimensional. You'll wear them out and lose their attention." —Tom Principato

Welcome to GMC Abel smile.gif .

For the Bivalve (THD make some great tube amps) - for home use to tame the volume level try putting it through a powersoak/attenuator. THD make some called the 'Hotplate' but there are several alternatives around. A powersoak allows you to run the amp flat out but reduces the volume to a reasonable level for home use albeit with a little loss of treble.
