Learning to read notes

Hello

I've been playing for over 2 years, and haven't learnt how to read notes.

Wouldn't that be a good suggestion for lessons, though it is a rather big subject.

When it comes to the real deal, then tabs aint really used in the "professional" music business, is it?
This makes it way easier to get over the material you want aswell.

I would love to see this, aswell as theory, starting from square one.

It's not a bad idea. However I don't think it's very suitable for the masterclass, as this kind of thing really doeasn't require any video.

Basically, all you need to do is pick a powertab from a song you like that's rhythmically simple (no Meshuggah!). Learn the basic note values. Then just analyse your powertab from that perspective and you will get rolling in no time.

You can get a good foothold on note reading with a teacher and some basic books. A teacher really is good for making sure you fully understand it.

do you mean the ablitiy to read staff rather than tab?

I can read music as i played the piano fopr years . however in my briefime (only 3 years) on the guitar i have never needed a use for that skill! i was amazed by how easy tab is by comparison.

Well, tabs are fine, especially if you just want to learn songs. But on the professional level, which is what Xuestor was speaking about, chances are no one is going to hand you a tab. If you want to be a professional, you should definately learn how to read music.
