The Obsessive Devotion

Part 1: The Hermit And The Mariner

Alone around the fire, The mariner heard his tale
A traveling hermit came to him, And told him of this land
Beautiful and vast, Beyond all imagination
The mariner laughed away at the hermits conviction

But sprouting from his hand, As if a rose by a tree
Came a flower so enchanting, The mariner had never before seen
It’s petals bloody red, Its vines poisonous green
It beauty seemed contagious, More vivid than any dream

The mariner looked to him, His eyes set ablaze

The Mariner
“Tell me now hermit, Where do these flowers lay?
Name your price, pick your request, For the origin, I would surely do anything”

The Hermit
“Across all the seas, At the edge of the earth.
Where the sun cuts at the horizon, Where no soul save mine has seen.
A light at the end, Shows the path, The way that you seek
No gold is needed, No task is to be ever asked
Your will and efforts are more than I will never need”

That very day at dawn, The mariner set off in search of that light
The enchanting flower, the contagion of beauty had driven him recklessly
His crew pushed to the limits, Some ending up more than simply dead
No storm or curse will ever stop the mariner, The flower simply he must see

The hermit stands in silence, Watching the mariner sail away
His lips spread in a smile, And his eyes were embedded with not a thing
Slowly he collapses, Into the opaque sea
The body, Which was but a tool, Is now a lifeless shell

The Mariner
“Where is it? The light he told me of?
I’ve crossed a thousand horizons, And no land has ever been seen
No matter how long it takes, this land I will surely reach
The beauty of this flower, Something so beautiful surreal”

SOLO

Part 2: The Island

Disembodied Voice
“Darkness is where I live, On a beautiful island façade
No living thing escapes my grasp, Alluring them to their doom
With a reach that extends this world, On the innocent I feed
The flower is their destruction, The blood of their souls I reap”

And in the distance, The mariner finally saw
A light so faint, But so surely strong
With a horizon, with a sun, cutting into land
The mariner and his crew hopes finally returned again

The Mariner
“Alas! It is here. My dreams of reaching the unreachable
Are finally and desperately achieved!
To the shore we sail my men, Such beauty awaits us
An object that will fulfill our every desire, Our every need in life”

The crew is ashore, and through vast jungles they proceed
The dangers along the way though, none would have seen
Vines the size of ships, Strangling the life from them
In a hurried rush they ran, the crew of 30 is down to 15

The Crew

“Mariner you are a scourge, Mariner you are a curse!
We are to leave you here, Never to return
Have your precious orchid, Your darling little plant
We will have none of this!”

And back to their home they began

Alone, The Mariner walks, now out of the jungle
Hardened molten plains, Replace the luscious greens
Atop a spire of rocks, So sharp and so visceral
The orchid, That enchanting flower of his dreams

SOLO 2

Part 3: The Mariner’s Scourge

Climbing painfully, at the jagged rocks
To the top he must proceed, The bloody petals he can see
Each reach for the flower, leads to drops of his own blood
No longer does he care, His life means not a thing

SOLO 3

Just feet from his grasp, The mariner can almost reach
The vines extend beautifully, for as far as the eye does see
They twist and turn, alluring the hopeful mariner
They seem to seduce him with such intoxicating movements

Disembodied Voice
“Closer, Closer, and ever oh so closer
His crimson hand does attempt to reach
My heart pounds in excitement
Now is the time, My thirst shall now be quelled”

The Mariner
“And here it is! The vision I saw in my dreams
This beautiful flower, finally it is now mine
One last leap forward, and It will all over”

The Mariner reached
The Mariner hoped
His hand grasped the crimson base
Clutched around those seductive vines
And damned him to his fate

So as he touched those vines
They sprouted those unholy thorns
Slicing through his hand
And entangling them around his body
His faced creased in pain, His voice let out a yell
Those hopeful dreams fell as tears through his eyes
He looked above, at a figure forming above the orchid
A woman so alluring, with the flower wrapped around her

Not a thing did she wear, Not a word did she speak
The long dark, crimson hair mirrored the flower at her feet

And then the silence broke, As the blood dripped from the mariner
The vines wrapped so tightly, Not a muscle he could move

The Siren (Disembodied Voice)
“Thank you, you lovely mariner
You journeyed all this way, Simply for me to feed
Your soul is no longer of use to you, It is mine for the taking
Neither shall you ascend, nor ever shall you descend
Life in my hunger, eternity for you”

And with a simple touch, Of the porcelain white hand
She simply grazed the mariners face
As if to caress him, To take care of his needs
The mariners mouth fell open, The jaw went slack
The life drained in red, and his soul was taken from him
The mariners obsession, The mariners doom

The Siren
“Now onto the next victim...”

Ok so this is another story about a simple Mariner who is sitting around his fire, when a hermit approaches him and tells him a story about a far off land, so beautiful, Nothing ever like it has existed. The mariner laughs, but when he shows them a flower from the island, the flowers beauty enthralls him, and he must reach the island. Trick is, once he reaches the islands, he nearly kills himself climbing a jagged rock spire it lay atop. And when he finally hold it, its vines that extended that entire rocky spire, sprout thorns and wrap itself around his body, tightening on him, feeding on him. Then the entity that haunts the island shows herself, and takes his soul from him, Using the plant to lure him with its poisonous beauty.

Hope you enjoy smile.gif
