What am I doing wrong? I can't get it to sound the same :S

I see the problem.
 You're doing hammer and pull-off after first Eb note playing D,hammer to Eb and pull-off back to D. But it's actually only one hammer-on,no pull-off, note D after hammer-on should be played with the pick. And this hammer must be pretty fast tho, note D is main note and Es is just an ornament.

Zoran Starcevic is pretty fine example
of Balkan melodies and grooves, plus his Trio (with his 2 sons) plays it on guitars. Middle East music has no guitar in use that often, there are instruments like Oud, Nay, Buzuq etc.
