Hey GMC'ers biggrin.gif
I have a question that has been plauging me for sometime now. I have been working through various instructors lessons and practicing various kinds of techniques, Alternate picking, Sweeping, some legato etc. But i dont feel I have settled on what style of guitarist i would like to be!!

I also notice that different GMC teachers do things in different ways to each other. For instance, some hold there guitar on there right leg, and pavel for example holds his classical style. Both ways of course work well for the player, but i get confused knowing which technique to use sometimes! smile.gif After all, i want to be able to play like all the instructors combined biggrin.gif

There is not a lesson GMC i wouldnt like to complete to a high standard, and so can I really take a bit of everyones technique? or should i settle more into one genre.

thanks! cool.gif

Well I think its choices like this that you have to make. Do you want to be a versatile guitarist, or one that can settle into only one style and play it fairly well. Eventually youll have to choose but I mean there would be nothing greater then to play a speedy shred solo and then play a classic acoustic fingerpicking piece, The choice is yours IMO smile.gif

I dont see a problem in using Legato, sweeping, speedpicking and even blues licks in the same solo smile.gif
I think maybe you should take the techniques you know and jam a little with them, or maybe construct solos with a little bit of each techique.

Hope I could help tongue.gif

Exactly smile.gif

Isnt it kinda usual for shredders to use "all" techniques in their playing?

I prefer no style at all, or no specific style. I like to play everything, and so when i play, naturally Ill play with all styles, or unless it calls for a certain one.
