So here we go again, a 50 sec long backing track in A minor, 168 bpm called "The Glam Project". Please don't play in the first 4 beats when sending your final take as it won't fit into the end mix, (I could probably make it work but I'm too lazy). Get your glitz and glam on and send me your hair metal solo
hope you enjoy jamming to this as much as I do \m/ https://soundcloud.com/patrik-berg-2/s-glam-project Deadline 1/11/13

Hey Patrik, you did it again Great backing!!! This kind of style reminds me about Darek's lesson Metalcore Chops #2 If I have some inspiration I'll give it a try. I'm not good to improvise on metal stuff but I like to be a part in your collabs.

Monica - maybe you can work on your rhythm chops for this and create a sort of theme that is both rhythmic and melodic in the same time - how about that approach? Something that will stick to the listener's ear, perhaps?

Ha,ha....your idea it's very cool but you know very well that my palm muting it's somewhere lost in the space The melodic line for backing is almost ready. Now you make me thinking at your idea and I don't know how to add some rhythm chops between my melodic parts Offf......intriguing idea and now I see this like a challenge I'm pretty sure in the end this palm muting on the rhythm chops and that "surprise lick" (sweep lick) from Darek's lesson will be killing me

Hi Monica, as Cosmin said, try some repeated melodic rhythm patterns, or if you like just play to the second part and if you like I can double the length of that section (that goes for any of you who'd like to participate). Hope that helps Oh and thank you

I will try something with Cosmin's idea (of course I will try but I'm not sure yet if I will can do that) Thank you so much Patrik for your thought to made double the length for the second part I really appreciate, but don't worry your backing it's perfect in first version. I made today all improvisation and I like how it sound You will gonna have my take next weekend or maybe earlier

Thank you Cosmin, this is nice of you Yes, who know, maybe we have the same ideas, like twin brothers You know in the first Patrik's collab we hade a similar idea for the start. This was cool I think both had in mind to made some "noise" in Jeff Beck style

Hey you guys - here's what I had in mind - I wanted to redo it when I realized that you can't see all of the neck but I think it's easy enough to spot by ear - so give it a go, ok? What do you think?
Posted by: huargo Oct 13 2013, 07:04 PM
cool cosmin!!! i'm working in the same direction in a riff in christofer cross, michael sambbelo style jeje, not too much glam byt very true 80's
This solo made explode when i was a child jejejeje

Thank you Cosmin for video, very interesting idea. But when you said rhythm chops I thought at some riffs parts between melodic parts. That combination confused me

This sounds really good, make use of the triads Am - C9 - G in the first part and then F9-G9-A9 in the second part.

Huargo yes! Gus G is the bomb indeed and quite frankly, this is the only tune I like listening to from Firewind
@Monica - well, now that I showed you what I had in mind - it's most likely a pretty rhythmic melodic theme - at least I like to look at it like that - it's because it's pretty precise and square in terms of phrasing But that's where the whole catch lies in
Posted by: gregc1 Oct 16 2013, 07:59 PM

As the great Miles Davis said - 'Don't play what's there, play what's not there' There's this amazing book I have which deals with improvisation. I read it a long time ago when it wasn't the right time so I will most def give it one more go these days. It's written by a guy called Jon Damian http://www.berklee.edu/people/jon-damian and the book : http://www.berkleemusic.com/store/product?product_id=11399&usca_p=t
I found that Miles Davis quote in a chapter about... silence
