For starters I suggest you work with your guitar player. First play a couple of roots from the chords that he plays and then add a couple of more notes. When making a bass line be careful it is with the groove with the drummer as well. Bas player must connect rhythm and melody great, so he must be great at both things and practice both equally well. When making melody first sing what you thing is good and then find it on the fretboard. Then work with the drummer to make a flowing groove.
