Want to make a vocal song by yourself, but no vocal talent? No problem. Yamaha has crated the Vocaloid. I don't know if this should be posted in gear or here, but I decided here, as I primarily want to show this really cool song!
I believe it's like the Windows software where you type something, and it reads it back to you. This program (there are severeal, with different voices) sings it back to you the way you tell it to, and you decide the notes etc. They are primarily in Japanese, but I believe there are one or two for English as well.

Edit: There are many English ones, but the words are hard to make out as there are so many ways to pronounce the same spellings in English. In Japanese it's much more straight forward, so it works better in Japanese.

I unfortunatly have no sound at the moment until I get home but if this is even a bit realistic I think this can be both a really great thing and really bad at the same time. For people who write their own music and don't sing themselves can save themselves money from hiring session musicians but at the same time a lot of music stuff now is getting very digitial where musical talent might decrease perhaps.

However this could also be really fun to try out if it's realistic it'll be interesting

Vocaloid has been around for quite a few years. AFAIK it takes quite a bit of time to get used to using formants and in building words. From what I remember some versions of Vocaloid are more realistic then others i.e there is at least one male vocaloid and several different female ones and some are 'better' than others. Overall it may be more useful for backing rather than solo voice...

Also, can't remember the name but there was a shareware vst that also used formants to model the human voice. Might have been bigtick audio?
