GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ Beginner Lessons Needed

Posted by: RobM Feb 19 2008, 07:23 PM

Everywhere I go on GMC I see people requesting this or that kind of lesson for the begining player, I know that GMC has some beginner lessons and the one's Kris made in the past are good but I think even those need to be upgraded and redone in the format of the site now (better camera angles, show the different notes as they are being played, close ups from the different angles, include guitar pro tab information etc..).

What I would like to see is every instructor take a turn and create 4 new lessons for the beginner guitarist, then when that is done do the same for the intermediate guitar player. I feel this would not only increase the database quite a bit, but it would also make GMC a more lesson friendly and inviting place for people with those skill sets.

Now I'm not saying that every instructor should stop what they are doing and concentrate on these lessons right now because I know that would be inconsiderate to the advanced guitar players we have here. I'm sure if this sounds like a good enough idea the instructors with Kris's help could work out a schedule that they would work with.

Myself I would love to see some beginner/easy intermediate lessons come from Muris, Walliman and Gabriel to start with.

Edit: Typo

This is some good ideas for sure Rob ! I agree some updated beginner lessons would be great. But also its worth remembering that if you want to be an advanced player you have to start playing advanced stuff too!! wink.gif smile.gif

I agree - we really need much more beginner material! Making an easy but still cool beginner lesson is not always an easy task though!

We really do need some more, not all of us want to go become the next vai or petrucci, and just want to have fun.

Then the ones that do want to become them need hard stuff or else they will never get better.

I like the hard stuff wink.gif.

As A beginner ( 3 to 4 months in ) I agree. I have bookmarked the majority of beginner lessons and do practice them but I have to admit, I've kinda taken a different path. Recording. I know this may seem strange but if I record what im doing, I can play it over and over til I find what sounds good to me. Not always right but it gets me close. Then I set down and try to figure out what scale, key,BPM sounds the best. Another thing that I dared to do was enter a collab with Iluha. ( thanks for letting me in ) This really forced me to concentrate because I know there will be comments made. It will also give me feedback on what to work on.

I recently contacted a couple of known and respected members here and aked them for there help. They were verry willing to help me. As I say this, Be on the lookout in the next few days for a Beginner\Advanced Collaboration of myself and another advanced member.

I would say to all beginners that read this post, I would highly recomend trying a collaboration. And to the advanced guys who creates the collab, allow one extra spot for the begginer who wants to take a shot. It has really helped me!
besides, what do you have to lose, Just Go for It!

Thanks in advance to the instructors who creates more beginner lessons and thanks Rob for bringing up this thread!

+1 for collabs.

It's great way for all beginner to get some constructive feedbacks
and to force them self to practice and play better each day

And post your takes of lessons in forum,mp3 or video, whatever!! smile.gif
